  1. I should have made this a poll, I have responses from good players in each of the following categories so far: easy 4♠ 4♠, dont like it pass, dont like it easy pass
  2. re (1): 4♣ would be NF in my book -- this is how I would bid a hand that wanted to bid 3NT but had no spade stopper and doesn't have the values for 5♣. Isn't the whole point of the 3♦ bid to see whether our values are working or not? It looks like they are to me since partner probably has short hearts and not a stiff spade, so I would bid RKC now. Agree "very poor" is too dramatic I would have either bid 4♣ over 3♣ or just bid RKC, I like my hand.
  3. I'd tend to pass. I presume I have not agreed whether pass or 4♠ is the stronger action in sequences like this (or if a cuebid gets doubled etc). If I have an agreement about that then I'll use whichever option is stronger. It's helpful IMO to have pass be the stronger action.
  4. this is right - 2n is by far the best psyche here
  5. [hv=d=n&v=n&n=sqjxxxha10daqxcj98&w=shjxxdkj98xxcakxx&e=sk10xhxxxxdxcq10xxx&s=saxxxxhkq98d10xxcx]399|300|Scoring: BAM[/hv] pass = -450 Dbl = P chooses between -500 and -690 4NT = -500 5♦ = -1100 At my table they decided to take the -1100. At another table, a WC West overcalled 5♦, their North did not double (lol), South competed to 5♠, doubled by East. At my teammates table, NS were also playing Precision but South decided to splinter instead of bidding 4♠, allowing West to come in with 4♦ and then stay silent after that.
  6. agree with 2h but dont have a problem with 1s either, id rather not let them in at 2m would bid 3h now, justin covered the reasons, I think -1 doubled against -110 is possible too
  7. The action chosen at the table was 1NT,2♥. Partner (me) had K6xxx K98 10 AKxx and raised. If this hand had bid 2NT it still would have worked out since I would have bid 3♥ over 2NT so the decision was irrelevant on the actual hand.
  8. p-(p)-1♣-(4♥) Dbl*-(p)-? *negative unfavorable, BAM QJ9x xx AJx KQxx Pass or 4♠?
  9. Assuming we're playing fast arrival then I am forcing to 6♠. I'll bid 4♣ and if pard can't bid 4♥ then I will bid 6♠ directly, otherwise keep cuebidding.
  10. Right but my point is there is the chance a direct 2♥ will run afoul of a hand like that but then what if partner is 5323 or 5314 and passes 2NT when 4h is cold? There are problems both ways. I think 1NT,2♥ is a reasonable sequence as well with this hand despite the extra strength. I would also bid 1N 2N but dont think its auto.
  11. I don't think this qualifies for "WTP" There clearly is a problem with this sequence, although your presumed point that there are no good alternatives may be valid. If I had held this hand I would have at least considered a 2♥ response.
  12. Well, if he has 7 spades and bid 3♠, the worst that can happen is we go 1 further down :) and it's MPs, so that is a huge loss
  13. The posted auction says "I have extra values, and spades are trumps, period" Thus 4♣ is a cue. Cuebids aren't mandatory. Playing serious/non-serious helps here.
  14. Leave it before it gets worse. If we bid 3♦ parter might not even pass, and that would be really bad. If you play 2/1 and don't play 1♠-3♦ as natural then he might think you have an invite or something which makes it way more likely that he wont pass.
  15. Pass. Not a good enough hand to do anything, but would have Xd 3♠.
  16. --- Jxx KJ98xx AKxx none vul, BAM (1♠)*-p-(4♠)**-? * Precision ** not necessarily a weak hand
  17. --- AQ10xx AJ9x 10xxx partner opens 1♠, RHO passes, you're playing 2/1 if you bid 1N partner will bid 2♣, whats your next call you're not playing Bart or any other special toys
  18. Partner's hand is Kx AJ109x Qxxx Kx I doubled 3♠ which should go off one, but I made a defensive error and allowed it to make. 4♣ would have made.
  19. Partner passes even if I raise hearts? Yes.
  20. Part 2: LHO makes the cheapest possible spade bid, partner and RHO pass, your call
  21. I was also curious to see if anyone suggested 2♣ followed by a raise to 3♠ as "better than a limit raise (as defined by 2 posts ago) but not enough to GF opposite an overcall" but I dont think anyone did.
