  1. There's a guy on BBO who has the userid "penguin" who plays $5RR tourneys. Perhaps you and him should form a team.
  2. I would have played it as natural at the table, but willing to admit that this isn't the best treatment.
  3. I would definitely double on the previous round opposite an unpassed partner, and would definitely pass opposite a passed partner. Here it's clear to bid 4♣; even though the ♣Q is likely worthless, it might not be, and your hand can't be that much better anyhow. However I would probably not cooperate with a 4red cuebid, I would retreat to 4♠.
  4. Can't you just bid 2♠ over the likely 2♦ rebid? I doubt partner will raise on 3. Are you happy if he raises on 4? As happy as one can be with any contract on this hand.
  5. Can't you just bid 2♠ over the likely 2♦ rebid? I doubt partner will raise on 3.
  6. Double (universally penalties). You have far, far more defense than expected.
  7. In my experience, playing a double as takeout here is near-universal among good players who have discussed this auction.
  8. I'd say the odds of a set exceed 95%.
  9. I'm not sure what the point of double was. What are you going to correct to, 4♣? Surely you plan to bid 3NT at your second call regardless of what partner bids. I don't hate a 3♣ call on the first round, but I would have bid 3NT. If partner puts down an Ace, you'll likely make it. While there are plenty of dummies where pass or 4♣ could work out better on the second call, I'd still bid 3NT, for the same reasons. I don't think it's too optimistic to hope partner has an Ace and that clubs come in.
  10. Driving buzzed is driving drunk although I would bet Texas is behind the curve. Here's a good test to see if you have a drinking problem. Give it up for a month. A not quite as extreme test would be see if you can go a month without having more than one per day. Most people who weigh more than 110lbs don't function differently on one than on zero.
  11. 3♣, obviously via 2NT if playing Lebensohl here.
  12. 1) 2♦ was clearly better than the second double, for precisely the reason shown. Despite a possible 4-2 fit, I'd pass now. At least I won't be playing a 5-1 fit at the 3-level( probably doubled). 2) Pass for lack of other options. The hand has a lot of hcp, but little playing strength. I would balance if 2♥ were to be passed back to me.
  13. In practice opener held the king of hearts and not the king of spades. So you would not show that as a keycard? Correct, even though this would be wrong partnering myself (as I'd have bid 4♦ on any just-spades slam try) and it violates the last bid suit rule. I just think that a lot of people would think spades are "obviously" trumps here so I would cater to that.
  14. If I were opener I would bid 3NT on pretty much any minimum hand without six spades, so the 4♥ bid is either a 6-2-1-4 minimum or some sort of cuebid for spades. Since this ambiguity is present, I would bid 4♦ with slam try in spades if I were opener regardless of my diamond holding. As responder with little slam interest and facing the 4♥ call with no discussion, I would never pass, since 4♠ will always be a reasonable contract and 4♥ might not be one. As opener facing the 4NT call, I would respond to RKC in spades. Even if partner intended it as RKC for hearts, I bet he's just as interested in the ♠K as the ♥K.
  15. agree, and I think 3♥ was the worst call
  16. Overruff (adj.) Characteristic of the typical bridge player's behavior towards his partner.
  17. Go to "edit my profile", then "board settings", and then for "Number of posts to show for each topic page", select 100 and save Thanks!
  18. The actual hand occurred at MPs, and the hand given bid game, going down one. When asked my opinion, I said that it was clear to pass at MPs, but that bidding game had merit at IMPs.
  19. FWIW partner is a good player but this is the first time youve played together
  20. R/w IMPs ♠KT976 ♥KJ752 ♦AJ ♣T 1♠ (p) 3♠* (p) ? *weak
  21. I'd think they'd be making grand at least half the time, and making 6 at least 90% of the time.
  22. Pass. My only real asset is the diamond suit, which is worth very little on defense in all likelihood, and 11 tricks is pretty far off. We could miss a spade fit, but pard might have already bid a speculative 4♠ on some of the hands where 4♠ would be good.
