  1. I'd make a forcing ♣ bid - whatever would show that. This enables us to get to our best game. That might be 3NT, 5♣ or even 4♠. There's absolutely no reason to hog the hand at IMPs.
  2. Another quote From the Notebooks of Lazarus Long: Lazarus is a pretty smart cookie. B) Well, you learn a few things during a 250+ years lifespan I guess.
  3. 3♠ over 2♣ would be inv for me. IMO you should rebid 3♠ on the 3rd round, not 3♥. But there's an easy solution to your problem; just pass 5♠.
  4. That's quite OK for some and an abomination for some. I'd say that a large majority of strong clubbers would open the OP hand 1♥.
  5. Partner has made a light slam try in diamonds. It looks like our 3♠ bid put him off for the moment. But we have extras here IMO. I guess a slam is at worst on a ♣ guess if partner doesn't sign off in 4NT over my 4♦ now. Denying a ♣ control should give partner a nice description of our hand.
  6. 1♦. There's no need to preempt here. It's quite possible it's our hand and we just might still have game, even opposite a light opener. If it's our hand it's imperative to overcall 1♦ to keep all strains in the picture and give partner the best description of our hand. Our best strain could be anything but ♣'s.
  7. Or ♠AT ♥2 ♦KJT96 ♣AQ743, for that matter :P except that he would never ever bid this way with this hand, and his auction must be 6-5. that's ridiculous. the suggestion that partner would bid 3D over 2H with 5-5 is ridiculous actually. Agree. That would be an absolute blindingly obvious 2NT.
  8. I'd never ever consider overcalling 2♣ with this hand. I don't see that as an option at all. The suit is too short and too weak. To me it totally misdescribes the hand. Overcalling 2NT over 2♥ is far better, eventhough the suits differ a lot; diamonds are one card longer and has lots of intermediates. But you'll get the chance to raise partner's presumed club preference one level and help him evaluate his diamond holding at the same time. And if it goes 3♥ p p you're still alive and can make another bid (preferably 3NT, I don't think double is correct then). I'm still not confident that 2NT is the perfect bid, but it's absolutely clear to me that pass over 1♦ is 100% correct.
  9. Partner had: ♠A ♥T ♦QJ643 ♣AJT965 He intended 4NT as unusual, showing 5-6 in the minors. We both agree that this must be wrong, since I've guaranteed ♣ support bidding 4♠ as a passed hand. I assumed it was RKCB with ♠'s as trump, but wasn't worried holding both black suit kings. I thought it also might be some sort of general slam try, but didn't expect that to be possible undiscussed in a non-regular partnership. I briefly considered the possibility that it could be intended as partner in fact intended it, but discarded that instantly. The ♦K was offside, so partner went one down in 6♣.
  10. My hand: ♠AT ♥v ♦KJT962 ♣AQ743 Making 6 on a heart lead - only a spade lead sets 6♣. Maybe I should have bid differently over 2♥, noone can fault partners pass, only RHO's balancing bid gave us anohter chance. When that is said, I'd have raised to game with partner's hans. Surely I'd have bid the same with ♠QT, but going for exactly +130 is too small a target IMO.
  11. Did you never consider 3NT because: (a.) it would mean something other than what you held, as far as pattern, or (b.) it never occurred to you, but maybe should have, or (c.) it occurred you you, and would have shown your actual pattern, but your strength was wrong (i.e., actually did consider, in a sense, but rejected), or (d.) other? Related, what would 3♦...3NT mean for you, as opposed to the actual auction? I didn't play with a regular partner, so 3NT here would be undiscussed. I'd expect it to show 6-4, but I'd not be absolutely confident partner was on the same page. I held another hand, thus bidding 3NT didn't occur to me. :) So your point c is correct. What might have been an alternative was overcalling 2NT instead of 3♦. It might probably have worked out better, but I think 3♦ was the correct call on my hand.
  12. The problem with this is that partner will never pass 4♠ with those magic hands. Of course he'll give you some leeway in such a pressed position, but if he's going to pass 4♠ with those hands to cater for overcalls like this, you're gonna miss some good slams.
  13. I never considered 3NT with my minor 2-suiter.
  14. Whereagles replied before I corrected the auction, the 4♣ bid was missing. So entirely my fault.
  15. [hv=d=s&v=n&s=skt872h932da5ck73]133|100|Scoring: IMP P 1♥ 2♣ 4♥ 4♠ P 4NT P ?[/hv] Here you take my seat in another hand from the district teams championship. 1. Do you agree with 4♠? 2. What is 4NT and what's your bid?
  16. [hv=d=w&v=n&s=sj732ht973dqck965]133|100|Scoring: IMP 1♦ P 1♥ P 2♥ 3♦ P P 3♥ 4♣ P ?[/hv] You're partnering me on this occasion (lucky you, or...) in a district teams championship match in the top division. What call do you make? Editet: Missed 4♣.
  17. Vegard Brekke (coach), Tor Helness, Boye Brogeland, Erik Sælensminde, Sten Bjertnes (npc), Ulf Tundal, Glenn Grøtheim, Geir Helgemo. Roland is correct (as always B) ).
  18. I voted "About the same". In practice I'd tend to be slightly more agressive in auction 2, but not much so. It's true RHO doesn't have spades, but unless they play F......, LHO surely might. But not as frequent as RHO has spades in the 2♥ p p scenario.
  19. Put me firmly in the 7♠ camp. Partner didn't double 7♦. Not bidding 7♠ really looks incredible to me.
  20. Jxx can't come into play either, since the T will then show up when you play a small from xx (originally) after laying down the ace.
  21. I'd normally pass as opener here. The alternative for me would be 3♠, not 2♠. Over 5♣ I'd pass. The alternative would be double, not 5♠.
  22. You should often bid 4♠ in this situation, but it's just too much with this hand. I'm passing.
