  1. 3♣ for me, and I don't think it's really close.
  2. 4♦ seems like the value bid here. Should lead to the great game.
  3. Nice try to hide the ♣2 and 3, but this one is too well-known....
  4. In the 2nd round of our national club teams championship I had UI on a deal - I was so deep in thought about how to best get my hand off the chest that I forgot that my natural 2♦ call was indeed conventional. I bid to 7NT, knowing we missed 3 keycards, as partner needed to have them all as he bid over my presumed natural and non-forcing bid. I could count 13 tricks. I went for -800 (-2000 was there if LHO found the best lead). If LHO had held ♥K/Kx I'd in fact have made the contract!
  5. This really looks like a 4♥ bid to me, now or on the previous round.
  6. I'd pass with this, then again, I've never played 2NT as minors over 1NT. B)
  7. For me this is a clear 2♥ rebid. I don't think the hand is strong enough for a reverse here. Another sequence upthread: 1♥-2♣-2♥-3♥ I've always played as GF since I quitted using diapers. B) Not sure what's standard, but I'd guess it's invitational in Acol and SA.
  8. That's not a possible hand for 2♣, that's a 1♠ response. You can't bid 2♣ with 4c♠ if you're too weak to GF.
  9. 2♣ followed by 2♠ seems perfect. I'd not be able to do that, since I play 2♠ as a GF relay over a 2red response. In my own methods I'd transfer and raise (if no super-accept).
  10. I am intrigued by this sort of response. If you prefer 1NT then there must be a good reason, so you must have some objection to 1♦.Surely you would not bid 1NT on some occasions and 1♦ on others? Is 1NT bid with 5-4-2-2 shape alertable? If it is not alerted and if a defender notices a dbltn in declarer's hand and misdefends on the assumption that declarer can't have another dbltn does he get any redress? That depends upon where you're playing. In Norway a 1NT opening that might by agreement include a singleton (4441/5431/6331) or 2-3 doubletons (6322/5422/7222) is non-alertable.
  11. Sure. But the point is that you are in this situation and have to decide what to say after that 3♠ bid. Have you never been in the position of having to cope with opposition lunacy? You can't just say "I don't understand, so we'll abandon the board." And why support clubs instead of hearts over 2♦? 2♥ would keep the auction lower, and we might have been able to support clubs at the 3-level - letting partner know about our double fit. Now we've bid ourselves into a corner. I'd sooner rate our own bidding lunatic than the opps, btw, eventhough their auction is pretty weird.
  12. Sure. But the point is that you are in this situation and have to decide what to say after that 3♠ bid. Have you never been in the position of having to cope with opposition lunacy? You can't just say "I don't understand, so we'll abandon the board." No, but I'd have bid my hand last round and this couldn't have happened. It's more the lack of a 2♥ bid than the opps stupid auction that's created a problem. I'd never face this.
  13. Obvious 2♥ the first time to me. From then on the auction makes no sense at all.
  14. This is an obvious Jacoby 2NT to me. I can't have a void when doing that, but a singleton is pretty common. Btw, a splinter in my methods show a void and a limited hand. I don't use the commone (in ACBL at least) responce structure to Jacoby - I'm used to a couple of other schemes.
  15. I'm a 2♠ bidder on this. I used to bid 3♠ on hands like this, but I've had some bad experience with that. On the actual hand north can take the slow route via 2NT, not that it's obvious. Over 4♣ from opener he'll take a look for slam.
  16. I'm almost wary about raising partners preempts with a balanced hand. Against Polish Club I'd still raise to 4♦ though. Anything more is lunatic IMO. Obviously those bidding more are accustomed to another kind of preempts than I am.
  17. I'll bid my spades now of course. So 2♥ transfer with my regular partner, 2♠ with anyone else.
  18. Pass, since I haven't got anything particular to tell now.
  19. Pass is surely a LA as defined by WBF. It MIGHT not be at the highest level under the ACBL definition, though I doubt that. I'd double without the BIT and pass with it.
  20. 4♥ is tempting, but it depends upon whom you're partnering. I'd not advice anyone doing that with me opposite! :)
  21. Surely 3♠ is only competitive here. But I've got a 4th trump, a useful singleton, an ace and a possible source of tricks (if needed). How can I not raise to game - I seem to remotely remember something about bonuses for bidding and making games. Red at IMPs those convert to 10 IMPs.
  22. Double. I bid 3NT over 3♠ from partner.
