Will partner go 4H with SA(SQ) +HQ10x over 3H? NO, so 3H is inadequate to show this game potential let alone slammy opposite SA +HAxxx. Must try 4H. hope my luck is in if partner misfits, but placing partner well if slammy.
Transfers for both these styles. So ONE method vs. ANY opposition scheme: Michaels, Unusual, top-bottom, natural, Ghestem, ...etc --- not a plethora of special counters to each defense bid.
Where is trick 5? 4xD +HK is that the target? We will later be defending dummy alone. Do I need to take this tempo to attack later options? I think Cx now, maybe even Hx. Too dulled to think this thru right now. Y'all try it.
What, what, what? ? Does partner's 3H take captaincy of this auction, OR NOT? What possible 'mastermind' could I have that is so-o-o left field that I can't trust partner's likely next decision? ? ? Or overrule after his decision? ?
I don't understand why you should not expect to beat 4♠ on the second hand. It turns out to be trivially easy to beat it one trick, and, on partner's obvious diamond lead, 4♠ may go down a lot. -- ArtK78 Give some 'down a lot' where partner wouldn't double himself. I would double when a penalty bonanza is likely/possible. But for make/-1/-2 all expectable outcomes? Ma-a-ybe MP to guard our game. I have my 1+QT for a 1-raise what more? ?
What is partner's pass? If the typical undefined, 3S and hope good fit saves too high. I play Pass shows an expected 5-8 without clear action (X warns). So 3S more certain. Further I partition 1C/1D so this hand is in 1D and partnership expects S-barrage, so 3S stands out and partner 'could/would' have put his 2-cents in with pass.
This parallels EFOS (Sw?) where the lowest bid forces artificially so can be many 'gap' categories. So coalescing rest of strong bids. Freeing some bids to be weak.
I feel I need to correct this every few years. John Fout didn't invent OS, he merely summarized it in his now famous notes. He hates it as a matter of fact. --pclayton Does one attribute the inventor or the publisher? ? Ask Eli Culbertson.
Another thought. Since partners are 'complementary styles' how close to a private understanding are you? ? I'm thinking of the old 'style' question: does knowing partner deviates (psyches) in this given situation constitute unauthorized info?? More, how do you defend this 'style' on appeal without documented 'non-rules'?
From How the experts win at bridge(book by ??) a chapter on 5 lines of defense, a signal to say 'wrong line -- try this' or here is where I help your intent. Old partner had a signal for what to do on 'right' defense. Eg started for a ruff, but both see that won't work. Now passive so lead D. BUT how to give opponents 'full disclosure' without quite detailed notes on the non-rules? ? Heaven help any break in tempo suggesting THIS signal may be uber ordinary.
Fouts Overcall Structure vs their 1m openings. Get to 3-level before they can sort out their cases. Only M-game oriented need act immediately over 1N(10-12). Reopening to find M/m partials or better. The Mexican 2D has already taken their space for bal hands teammates will bid well.
Only #2 persuades me to lie 1 point as I gain on lead in every suit. #1 seems no problem to 1S. Pard in 3N okay. #3 no problem to 1C. Again no lead value.
