  1. I think these grooms faces would show little guilt when a second club comes from the board and the queen is played. Crash the Jack or play the endplay? Given that on this occasion our RHO is almost a cert to play the Queen from Qxx i think its best to rise with the ace as even if im wrong (as the case here) the defence will be forced to open the heart suit. When the ♥Q is returned im fairly certain the A is on the right ( xx AQxxx QJxx Jxx looks like a 3rd seat favorable opener to me). I'll guess the J to be in LHOs hand - ducking the Q and letting a small continuation run around to my T. Covering with the K will cause me to lose out to QJ9xx on my left. Of course i'll have egg on my face it LHo had the ace all along :P
  2. [hv=d=n&v=n&n=skxh9862dkxcakjtx&s=saqjthk543dxxcqxx]133|200|Scoring: IMP lead ♥J[/hv] You have the uncontested auction 1♣-1♥-2♥-3♦-4♥, and LHO leads the ♥J to which RHO plays the 7. 3♦ by south was a fabricated long suit game try Would the quality of your opposition have an impact on your line? Thanks
  3. Apologies if its not clear but the auction was uncontested, so East may well have a lot less than 10 points :) The opponents are indeed playing standard count
  4. [hv=d=n&v=n&n=saj732h4dat8cq542&s=sk4hkqt6dq742cat9]133|200|Scoring: IMP 1♠-2♦-2♠-3NT -AP Lead: ♥7[/hv] Playing in a local league match you declare 3NT. The opponents play 2nd/4th leads vs NT and RHO contributes the ♥2 How do you plan the play. Once you've decided:
  5. [hv=d=s&v=b&n=sak87h764dkj62cq5&s=sqj2haqt5dact8642]133|200|Scoring: IMP 1♣-1♦-1♥-2♠*-2NT-3NT Lead ♦8[/hv] The opponents are pretty weak, playing 2/4 leads and RHO contributes the ♦Q on the first trick. How would you plan the play?
  6. [hv=d=e&v=b&n=sjt8763hk97djtca9&s=sa5haqj65dq52ckq6]133|200|Scoring: IMP 4♥ by South T1: ♦6 T A 2 T2: ♦8 5 K J T3: ♦3 ?[/hv] You have arrived in 4♥ on the auction 1♥-1♠-2NT-3♣*-3♥-4♥ The opponents are playing 2nd and 4th leads, what's the most probable route to success from here?
  7. looking at the ♣Q west would realise the only hope of defeating the contract is for partner to hold the ace and would have returned a club. If west holds ♣AQ we are dead anyway Hence we should play for the queen on our right and play low from hand
  8. Win the ♦A, club to the ace, then advance the ♣Q, ruffing high if covered else pitching the ♦J from hand. I think i'm pretty much guarenteed to win when spades break 2-2 and on lots of layouts where the ♠A is stiff or the long spades are with the long clubs (neither of which is unlikely given the bidding). Notably LHO won't have a singleton heart with RHO silent through the auction so if the come back a heart i'll need to duck it so as to set up a ruff for my tenth trick Nice hand
  9. I can't be done with one ace: either i) LHO holds two suits in which case the opposition have a cashing ace or ii) LHO has 13 top tricks and 7NT isn't the place to be personally i can't beat 11 points
  10. ♥A, ♠A, ♥ to the K, ♥Q from dummy pitching a ♣. If hearts are 3-3, should lose only 1♦,2♣, and 1or2♠s If the ops ruff in i still have chances tho i may need to guess the position when the defences final heart is played Second bit:
  11. At the table I think i'd take ♠A, hook the ♥J, cash the ♣A, ♥K, and cross to the ♣Q keeping the ♣3 in hand. If clubs were 2-2 and hearts no worse than 4-2 i now have a trump entry to table to ruff ♥s good and take a diamond at the end. If clubs are 3-1, i'll cash the ♥A pitching my ♠ and exit the ♦Q hoping the ♦A isn't with the reamaining trump so i can get a ♦ ruff
  12. Well you cant do better than 12 more tricks than trumps: the minimum number of trumps is 14 and the maximum number of tricks 26, and 26-14=12 ;)
