Um 4♠ is still cold and 4♥ is just the 1 off instead of 2. Perhaps you meant the ♣5 and ♠7?
-
rho ruffs in on the fourth spade as well, and you still have a club and diamond loser, i think. I think he'll be ruffng my diamond loser with his trump trick, the ruff leaving him with only one trump and I holding a bigger one in hand
-
say ♦ lead tho i think they are all much the same: win, ♥AK, ruff, ♠AQ, the play the T: If there is no ruff we can pitch the diamond and use the ♣A to ruff RHO remaining two red cards and exit a trump. If he ruffs, overruff, ♣A, top spade pitching our diamond Hope ive not bodged it!

It can't be anything else, I probably should have alerted it shouldn't I?" Penalties is indeed the partnership understanding. North agrees, TD is called and North has no desire to change his call. Result 3♥X-3 NS -800. NS claim damage as South would bid 4♣ over an alerted double. How would you rule?

I'd take it and try cash our ♣AK...

Woops pretty sure i entered the vul wrong here, EW vul against not. Have adjusted OP

Was East mad to save?

[hv=d=n&v=e&n=sj8xxxxhdakxcxxxx&w=s9xhqxxxdxxxckqtx&e=sakthkjtxxxdj9xxc&s=sqxhaxxdqxxcajxxx]399|300|(2♠)-3♥-(3♠)-4♥; (4♠)-5♥-AP[/hv] Result 5H-2 I've always enjoyed a bit of ATB, so please have at it! Scoring is x-imps with 3 sets of teammates, which can in itself be pretty brutal
-
Your partner (me) held: QT9xxx Qxx Kx JT. At the table 5♠ was bid and doubled for 1 off, diamonds make 10 tricks also. This was 9imps away, though i imagine most tables had a different auction as most play weak NT and 4cM here in England.
-
Butler scoring, ten tables both vul expert opps. You deal: AK87 AK2 T65 Q95 Auction proceeds: 1NT-(2NT*)-4♠-(P) P -(4NT*)-X-(5♦) ? LHO has shown a good hand with the minors. Your call?
-
At the table would take the Jack and play a small heart immediately. Looks like i'm a make with the ♥Q onside, The ♥T falling in 3 rounds or a ♥/♠ squeeze. I'll praps come back and take a harder look to see if there is a technically superior line

Fun hand from Bridge Master 2000

I think saying the lines in 6 and 7 are the same is misleading. While the correct line for 6 may be a correct line for 7, not all the correct lines in 7 are correct in 6 :P. -
While I'm normally in favour of pass on these sort of threads, i really think the North hand is good for keycard. An ace opposite and slam is likely going to be excellent and otherwise the 5 level reasonably safe in view of the double. Besides I find it doubtful the double will get left in and who isnt bidding 5 hearts over their game anyways? I also think the a priori chances of South having a stiff diamond really pretty small (yes i know he has one!).
-
Fairly sure I would duck the lead, ruff the continuation and play ♣K pitching a diamond. Ruff the presumed diamond continuation and cash a top trump. Given the info in the OP i'd probably try heart hook, cash the ace and play trump to hand to cash clubs. I'll make when LHO is Qxxx Kxx in the majors. I've gone off before though.

South reasoned that given the opponents were in a GF, 4♠ would be the best bid to put some pressure on as to double or bid on. With the correct information South felt he could afford to bid a quiet 3♠. If you were to conclude that bidding 3♠ was reasonable, what score would you assign?

[hv=d=w&v=e&n=sktxhjxdjxxxcaktx&w=sjxxhqxxxxdakcqjx&e=sahkxxdqxxxcxxxxx&s=sq9xxxxhatxdtxxcx]399|300|Scoring: MP 1♥-X-2NT*-4♠ AP[/hv] 2NT was alerted and explained as a game forcing 3+ card raise. Result 4S -2 NS -100 At the end of the hand East says to her partner that she has misexplained the 2NT bid and that after a double it only shows a 3 card limit raise. West agrees and states that she had missed the double. South calls the TD and says that had he been correctly informed he would have only bid 3♠, what say you?
-
Yes the hand is simple once you know there is no trump loser...
-
I'm not sure this hand is obvious at all I would have taken the diamond, spade to the queen. Then once it holds followed with ♥AK and a heart ruff. So long as hearts are 4-2 or better I think my chances are now excellent
-
Quickly the main chance i can see is West with a stiff diamond honour or something like xx xxx Hx Q987xx or xx xxxx xx Q9874. So ♦A, ♠AK, ♥AKQ, heart ruff, diamond setting up either a ruff and discard or an honour clash.
-
I would consider X to be a failure to use bridge logic. Pass

Walk the dog or blast it?

5♦, but wouldn't necessarily criticise 4 -
Thanks for the responses, I thought the risk of conceeding 2 overtricks made this a close call. I doubled and was rather happy when partner had ♠Qx. At the other tables a normal looking heart was led for 12 tricks.

[hv=d=w&v=e&s=sakj9xhxxxdjxxxcx]133|100|Scoring: IMP 1NT-(P)-3NT-?[/hv] The opposition play a weak NT, you are playing a 9 board match which you will be scoring up with 3 different sets of team mates. Double?
-
How about [hv=n=s4ha3d3c2&s=saq3h2d2c]133|200|[/hv] North to lead a spade and make on a double squeeze
