  1. When playing a teams match (with no barometer/kibitzers) can the table which finishes first get a score update for each completed board? I.e. for a 16 board set I finish board 16. The other table is currently playing board 13, I get a score for the first 12 boards (and depart for the pub if it's a large plus or minus). In the post-covid environment this could be an option, which could be disabled by the person setting the match if required for security reasons. Especially helpful for the second half of an evening match.
  2. [hv=n=sqxxhxxxdajcaqjxx&s=saxxhakqxdqtxckxx]133|200|Scoring: Total Points You Gib yourself to 6N on the J♥ lead.[/hv] Suppose they need a "vaguely intresting bridge hands" forum.
  3. Has GIB been updated? It's being especially absurd today, even for it.
  4. The rope would have to be exactly twice half it's length.
  5. Well, the European Junior teams is a month before, so the turn out will be poor from European countries. Is it me or is that absurd scheduling?
  6. Aren't 2(344)/1444/any other hand with 5 hearts 14-16's going to need a "general force" 3♥ Bid?
  7. Presumably East was subbed out to be executed?
  8. Well, depending what 1C-1S is (no major/some strong things for me) you can invert 2D/2N over that, ie 1C-1S!-2D as 17/19 bal, and still have room for an invite I've even passed it and picked up 90. Simple over that is 2H balish inv, 2S puppet to 2N, 2N asks minors (4C/4D/5C/5D) then you have the whole of the 3 lvl straight away and after the puppet to sort out your other options in the spade.
  9. Not natural, how isn't this compeletly obvious MickyB?
  10. What if your dealer playing a wknt only in first seat and RHO passes out of turn?
  11. 1♣-1♥ (1♣- nat/bal, 1♥-xfer) 1♠-2♦ (1♠-11-13 Bal, 2♦-ART GF [2 way checkback]) 2♠-2NT 3♣-4♥ (4♥-splinter) Or just 1C-1S-1N-2D-blah playing standard Looks a good start, some cuebidding and maybe some cannon would take care of the rest, north has the absolute nuts, couldn't have a better hand.

  13. My laptop (8 months old, middlerange toshiba) just cost me a pile of cash after vista massivly corrupted, wouldnt boot, rescue disk and all. I didnt want to lose my harddrive and didnt have the hardware to remove it before factory re-setting so had to have it done proffessionaly. Asked them to dualboot it, when I get it back not sure i'll ever boot with Vista again. Anyone noticed how microsoft OS's go in a good/bad cycle? Vista,XP,ME,98.
  14. Was watching a countdown re-run at 5:30 this morning, neither of the contestants got it, is it that hard? 100 25 10 8 7 5 = 804
  15. Erm...6♣? How about 2♣-3♣-4N-6♣-7♣. 4N Natural, 6♣ to play, apart from across the table where 4N was Keycard and 6♣ was odd+void, oops. Best I could come up with now was 2 diamonds, throwing a spade, draw trumps, 2 major suit aces, run trumps and see lots of pointed things being thrown. This better than a double heart hook?
  16. 1♣-1♦-? 1♥ = (1)2-3♥, minimum 1♠ = natural, unbalanced 1N = 17-19 bal, (1)2-3♥ 2♣ = Natural 2♦ = Natural, 16+, F1 2♥ = min bal w/4♥, min unbal w/3♥ 2N = 16+, 6♣/3♥ OR 5♣/4♥, F1 3♥ = 13-15, unbal w/4♥, suggests concentrated suits + singelton
  17. Yep, apart from Byrne is not actually there till sunday evening, not sure why he's on my team. As usual the EBU have managed a bunch of random seedings, my favourite being the recent winners of the open trials who are now 2/3rds of the team for the european championships in 6th?
  18. 5♣ 6♠ over 5♦, otherwise 5♠ Don't think pard should bid 5♦ on a small singelton here
  19. [hv=d=n&v=n&n=st87hktxxdkcakt9x&w=sakqxxxhqj9xdxcxx&e=sjxxhaxxdqjt87xcx&s=sxh8xda9xxxcqjxxx]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] The hand was something like the one above. Thought 4S was makable/making so I seem to have gone wrong somewhere. At the table North hesitated over 4♠, and South bid 5♣. I, east, bid 5♠, which went 2 off for 100, director was called and ruled table result stood, appeals comitee upheld the decsion. Feel free to acuse me of making a 2 way shot with 5♠, though no one else seems to have mentioned that, which to me seems poor from an appeals comitee. Comments?
  20. [hv=d=n&v=n&s=sxh8xda9xxxcqj8xx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Weak Nt/4CM 1♣-2♦-4♣-4♠ P-P-? You disagree with 4C? Don't blame you, but deal with it, 2♦ was Pre-emptive. 2 Day swiss teams (14 matches) with approx 40 entries, your playing one of the best teams in a fairly weak field.
  21. I find that 1♣ has some preemptive effect I agree. I like to open weak hands with long club suits. Doesn't have a lot to do with a fistful of hearts missing AK. Somehow I find that 3H is the three level preemptive equivalent of a weak two diamonds. If it's your hand you would have had it anyway. If it's their hand, you boost them into close games. Given any excuse I will bid 4H, and lose the golden opportunity for +140. Time to wander off topic, I can't let people go around abusing 2♦ openers like that. 2♦ is a good pre-empt. RHO doubles with his (43)24 16 count, partner bumps it, RHO bids the wrong major. They can't bid at the one level or open 2♣ or 2♦ if they use that as benji, multi or something precsionish. Pard has a void and the opps both have 13 counts, -250 when they have 26 combined isn't generally bad. LHO has a diamond stack and a 20 count, bet he's real happy when you open 2♦, can't pass its unlikely his partner has the values to re-open and is a bit stuck and ends jumping to 3N but pard has the rest of the deck. LHO has clubs, but his partner can't raise below 3NT. LHO has a 3=3=4=3 20 count with 4 small ♦, what does he do? You say it boosts the oponents into close games, if I'm playing IMPS my oponents bid their close games anyway, team-mates bid them aswell, and if it's very thin why are you complaining, surely your ahead in the long run but you will get the occasional 12 out compared to the frequent 5-7 in. Compare this to a 2♥ pre-empt which is a transfer to spades. Closer towards the topic: Opening 3♥ is also a good pre-empt, they can't bid a minor below 3NT and lots of other reasons which mostly aren't specific to 3♥ but pre-empts in general. On topic: 3♥, If you wait for KQJT9xx and a 7321 shape to pre-empt I want to play against you for money, and if you open this 4H i'll only play if its not pivot.
  22. [hv=d=n&v=n&s=sxxxxhaxxxdq987xc]133|100|Scoring: MP[/hv] Pard passes, wknt on right, your bid? Methods are Woosley, but X of a wknt is pen (2C = majors, 2D = a major, 2M = major + minor)
  23. 4N intending to convert 5♣ to 5♥ to show my suits might work, but pesky partners tend to bid something else cos they have lots of point and lots of clubs thinking (not unreasonably) I have ♥+♣. Suppose i'll bid 4♠ and end in a no play slam, heck I do have 2 Keycards and a void! If I did pass to start would bid 5♦ when 5♣ is doubled unless pard is a corpse. (If LHO doubles 4♠ and partner re-doubles I might start searching for a card with 4 X's on it)
  24. My local club in yorkshire has periods where everyone plays the same (awful) defence to NT openings, the current favourite is pin point astro.
