West isn't entitled to that information. West is entitled that it is a transfer but isn't entitled to the fact that South forgot. What would happen if the explanation was: So, yes, EW are entitled to know the agreements, but they aren't necessarily entitled to know that there is an accident in progress. Blah Blah Blah. I realize that E/W isn't "entitled" to this information. The poster was claiming that if South *knew* 2H was a transfer, he never would have bid 3H but would have correctly bid 2S instead. That's why I said "Pretend".
-
In what way would EW having different information cause NS to act differently? If South had given the correct information that 2♥ was transfer to 2♠ don't you think that he (South) would have bid 2♠ rather than 3♥? I indeed suspect a double-shot from West here. Sven Pretend the scenario is: 1N - (x) - 2H - P - 3H - West: what is 2H? South: Oh crap, it is a transfer but I forgot. Now West has the correct information, and will take a different action other than bidding 3S.

double. (Not quite as emphatic as jdonn) :)

There is only one problem with this claim. The telescope that would be good enough to be able to see the lunar vehicles doesn't exist. This claim of "proof" is just as bad as the claims of it being a hoax. (Sorry) http://calgary.rasc.ca/moonscope.htm Edit: To be fair, Apollo missions 11, 14, and 15 did leave something on the moon called a corner reflector, which allows the distance from Earth to the moon to be calculated by sending a laser pulse from a telescope to the moon which is then reflected directly back to its point of origin. Maybe this is what he was referring to. http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2004/21jul_llr.htm

Lead from KQT9(x) or KQ9x(x) vs NT
bid_em_up replied to BillHiggin's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
It says "vs. NT" in the thread title. I assume it means for both of the given hands. -
I think I told partner that I really liked my hand in support of spades, when I super accepted the transfer. Kinda silly for him to now be asking "how do you like your hand?" again, don't you think? RKC may not help partner any. It's entirely possible he has a void in his hand and an RKC answer will not tell him about the trump quality. We already know he has 5+ weak trumps, but its possible you may be super-accepting on 17 hcp with 4 trumps that are AJxx or K10xx (depending on what partner holds). I think the 5M bid always asks for trump quality in this scenario. jmoo.

Lead from KQT9(x) or KQ9x(x) vs NT
bid_em_up replied to BillHiggin's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
The purpose of leading the Q from KQ109 is to get partner to pitch the J whenever he has it. (He knows the lead cannot be from QJ anything.) This way, opening leader will know if it is safe to continue the suit or not. From KQxx(xx), I would lead 4th/5th best, depending on your methods. You do not want partner to pitch the J in this scenario. -
Pass. The 5D call should cancel any slam interest his previous actions might have shown. Additionally, I find it difficult to concieve a hand where he was looking for slam and yet he could not find any cuebid below 5D. (I suppose one might exist, but it escapes me at the moment).

No. Each of the businesses in the OP owed another business 100Rs - let's say they had recorded that debt under "Accounts Payable." But each had also granted credit of 100Rs to another business - let's say they had recorded that amount under "Accounts Receivable." All of the businesses started the day even and all ended the day even. That's because at the end of the day the Accounts Payable and the Accounts Receivable had been zeroed out. The reason that the accounts had not been cleared earlier was that currency was not available. The hotel owner shouldn't have grabbed the 100Rs, but any medium of exchange would work. Let's say, for example, that the hotel owner (like California) wrote an IOU. I agree with Winston for a change. Suppose the hooker decided instead to support her herion addiction and bought $100 worth of herion from her local dealer who then ships the $100 out of the country never to be seen again. Now let the man walk downstairs and say the rooms are not satisfactory, where's my $100?

In what would likely have been the first unanimous poll ever, alas, no poll was given. Edit: Hmmm, was a poll added after the fact or did I just miss it the first time?

Anything wrong in the bidding?
bid_em_up replied to twcho's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Ouch. -
No, it is not. For every hand you can give where 4S will go down, I can give one where it will make. Do the IMP math. I assure you, if your opponents consistently bid game on these cards and you consistently do not, you are going to lose the majority of the time. Both of these statements appear to be arguing that you do not belong in game here simply on the basis that the game might be beaten. This is different from claiming North should pass opposite a hand that is limited to 17 hcp.
-
<sarcasm off>hmmm, let's see.... someone who leads the Cl K from K Q J ..... ? You are completely missing the point.
-
imo, North gets the majority, if not all, of the blame.
-
And the problem is?

Abstain. The answer to the question is dependent on the caliber of the player(s) in question. For a World Class player, this should be an easy defense to find and wtp (doesn't mean they always will do so, but it would not be unexpected either). As others have stated, there is sound bridge logic on which to base this defense, and certainly any World Class player should be able to visualize the hands in this manner and find this defense. For an Expert player, it's somewhere between a wtp, and "the guy is brilliant". For Advanced, it's some of "the guy is brilliant" and some of "the guy is lucky". For Beginner to Intermediate, it's normally just plain lucky (being rewarded for bad play). Of course, any of the above could be wired as well. However, I would be inclined to believe that only if the player in question was known to be a poor player who consistently found this type of defense.

9♥ The 3N bidder likely has spades well stopped (AQx, AQ10), as they usually do when they bid like this. They are expecting a spade lead almost 100% of the time, based on the logic that everyone has given here, and will normally be well prepared for it. His heart holding may not be so strong, and I want a spade led through declarer, and not me leading one into him. At the same time, I let partner know that I have no real interest in hearts. Jmoo.

The judge ordered the weapons restriction after she watched a video of the pharmacist shooting robbery suspect Antwun Parker, 16, on May 19 at Reliable Discount Pharmacy in south Oklahoma City. In a twist in the already unusual case, District Attorney David Prater asked the judge to allow Ersland to have access to a gun at work in case the pharmacy is robbed again. The prosecutor said his position "sounds crazy” but he insisted that under the law Ersland has the right to defend himself and others at the pharmacy. (the judge denied this request) http://newsok.com/druggist-jerome-ersland-...article/3373432

fwiw, I agree with this.
-
Seriously, the only possible alternative to 4♦ would be 5♦ as Exclusion Keycard. Yes, that's a bit of an overbid on the given hand, but not by much.
-
This may seem like a strange question, but did East actually follow to the club K? Or did he pitch or ruff?
-
K♣ Why? Because the other three suits had already been picked. :)
