Double dummy isn't bad with modern techniques, especially on multi-core processors. Dozens of hands a second isn't unreasonable. What is much slower is single dummy play ala GIB or Jack.
My read of the chart says yes. If an opening or response in a minor is <3 cards, it's not considered a natural call and should be alerted, unless their is specific prodcedure in place that says other ways (e.g. short 1♣ is announced rather than alerted)
Not to be "that guy", but you should be, and they should be too. Sayeth the ACBL I think if you're opening say, the top 40% of 10 counts and the top 5% of 9 counts, that would be considered routine.
Technically, 5NT isn't just a king ask, it's signifying that we hold all 5 keycards, incase partner has an odd hand and wants to punt 7 based on a source of tricks...like change the hands to AKJT986 Axxx x x Q x AKQxxxx Axxx
See, that would work the opposite around here. Maybe the folks around your area are more actively ethical, but here those of less than nobel bent (aka 80% of the field) will take this sort of auction as the perfect time to hem and hesitate their way to game they may well miss if we had just stayed quite.
Something else to consider is that non-mainstream methods tend to perform really well for a couple of sessions, and then the good players in your game will figure your out what you're doing (And really, less than that since the way I understand the ACBL interpretation, if you're routinely opening 10 counts or less in 1st and 2nd you should be pre-alerting light openings), and they'll adjust.
I would collect a lot more info before I started drawing conclusions. For instance, your 1NT scoring so well either indicates you're in a very weak field (in which case what you play doesn't matter, you're just bunny bashing) or B: small sample size.
"Best" on what criteria? I would posit that the best thing for your local club game is not what you'd want to play in the Bermuda Bowl. Will also depend heavily on your range, wether you open 1N with 5M never, sometimes, frequently, or always, etc.
This should show extras, even in a 2/1 context, as this is a suit partner "can't" have. This is different from an auction like 1♣-1♠-2♥, where responder may well have hearts.
I don't really like the reverse here. When you start cheating on your reverses, it can have a knock-on effect to all your strong auctions. You don't want a little voice in the back of partner's head going "Is he really strong this time?"
Dbl for me, but unlike the rest of you, I'm not upset if partner sits. If partner is on a min with good spades, especially a holding like KTxx, who's to say we're making game anywhere?
