  1. 4D after 3S show a S void, self-sufficient D and slammish. So partner should try to cuebid with the K of D and the club A. 6 is still possible but you have to pass.
  2. 2nt is way better. Not close at all. I think any overcall that show defensive strenght is wrong because if opps reached 4S and partner double (a likely scenario) we are going to be forced to bid 5C wich might be a terrible decision. If you bid michaels and opps reached 4S and partner X you have an easy pass and if he doesnt you have an easy 5C (you would bid 4Nt with equal lenght)
  3. I prefer a X to 5C, but i dont think its that clear. We a re R vs W and partner will very often pass 4S and we will be cold for 5C. However i think the chance of going down in 5C is fairly high. In MP X is clear.
  4. or for that matter here 1♦-p-1♥-p 2♦-? i would double after 1D instead of passing. 3325, 13 pts = double even if my pts are in the wrong suit.
  5. Pass and defend 1NT. If 2D is coming back to me ill venture a balancing double.
  6. I think south double is fine but prefer passing. Not having 44 in the M decrease significantly your chance of reaching a fit. North 3nt is insane. There is no leb here.
  7. I think i prefer that 2M is GF. I can understand that the frequency of the take-out with a void is higher than a big hand too strong to overcall. But the risk and benefit isnt the same. Jumping/cuebidding with a great hand facing 8-10 pts is annoying for your slam bidding. Maybe a good compromise is that 2m is a light take-out with void in opps suits. While the others bids remains powerful. (1H)--------X---------(P)---------- 1Nt (P)---------??? 2m doesnt show strenght it just show a H void. (so that with) 4054 you bid 2D 2S is GF option 2 is that only the cheaper minor is used to show the take-out with a void. 2C is 4054 or 4045 2D and + are strong. Over (1C)-----X-------(P)-------1Nt (P)------??? 2C can be used to show the club void instead of the cue-bid
  8. I forgot to mention a very important point RHO hesitated when ive played the K of H. Even with "feeling" the K is in RHO Im not proud of my line. I was seriously hoping that RHO would continue spades without too much thinking, or that LHO would give me a sign for the D. (Playing the T or hesitating from Txx) At the end I didnt trust LHO diamond quick play and so i was punish by changing plan in the middle of a hand without good reason. I also wondering if you have no intention of playing low D toward dummy than is playing the A of D (instead of a Q or J) at trick 2 a better play ? Another pearl ive done today in a v weak field. W vs R MP im the dealer. xxx AKx AQxxx AT 1D------(2C)--------P--------(P) X--------(P)---------2H-------(3C) X--------(P)---------3D-------(4C) X My K of H didnt cash. partner bid 3D with xx Qxxxxx xxxx x I would have bid 3H with his hand but in any case its not that surprising one of my trick get ruffed even in a very weak field
  9. Ive played the J of D. RHO won and returned a S won in Hand. At this point ive tried a low D And LHO played low without any worry. I was tempted to play the 7 and probably should but played the 9. It was hard to lose 2 tricks to bare KT onside. Ive manged to make 3 but for a bottom.
  10. 4S is simply a beginner bid. Partner is rarely going to pass if we bid 4S. Hes favorite to have enough values to go on. Usually when a bid show 5 to 20 pts and isnt forcing, its a bad bid.
  11. [hv=d=s&n=sqxxhqjt9xd97xct7&s=sakxhkdaqjxxcaqxx]133|200|Scoring: MP[/hv] 1D-----1H 3C-----3D 3NT 3 of S (4th best you dont have the 2.) won in hand cash the k of H that is ducked. Now what is your plan ? You are in a medium club field.
  12. For sure i want to be in 6. If 3M isnt 4M+ long minor than I like to play that 3M a solid suit with a void somewhere and 4M no void. Something like 2C----2D 4S----4Nt 5K----6S
  13. We had 8 tables so relay between 1 and 2 and bye stand after 5. The game started and a pair arrive a bit late. Ive hurry to call somebody that live near and I completed the 9th table. Ive pick up the bye stand boards to play them (thinking great they are already shuffled and we wont need them anymore ?!) but completly forgot about the relay. After 3 round ive realized what i have done. So the 3 first round were played with 24 boards instead of 27. What is the proper procedure for correcting this mistake.
  14. I think its a good time to learn transfer advance. If not i would assume 2H shows 5H and 2S or 5H and 5m.
  15. Agree that is why my requirement to double with a void is to have 3 defensives tricks. I play 3m as showing 5-5 and 2Nt as showing 64 too. That its exactly why I think 2Nt is slightly better than X here. Not if the take-out doubler had the 2 minors ACE and they make 2S X easily. But I agree that with the J of D its probably OK to X. It improve significantly the odds of making a D trick.
  16. I play the treatment that 2H by a passed hand tend to show 5H and 2S. Without a H fit partner is pulling to 2S. If you reverse the 2D/2H in 2 over 1. 1S------??? 2D show hearts 8pts + 2H show diamonds GF You can play this treatment too. Because partner is more likely to have 5H than 6H when he bids 2H after 1Nt forcing.
  17. void AKQxx Kxxx KTxx id bid 2Nt take-out with that instead of double. Its 15 pts but its far from 3 defenses tricks. When i make a take out X and have 2nt take-out available its because i want partner to pass with 3 trumps tricks. If partner pass with QJT9x and they make it then maybe it wasnt a double.
  18. Easy pass. Partner could have bid 2Nt for a shapely take-out with not enough defense.
  19. Im 100% with Phil on this one. x xx KT9xx AT9xx Pollers in Bridge World make a neg X with this hand or a very similar hand to this.
  20. Good post AWM Justin do you play that a passed hand 3S bid show a good suit or is more like a negative double flexible bid ?
  21. I prefer 3C to a neg double since partner can still introduce D with 3D. Switch the minors and ill double. X-------3H 3S------4S I think west hand is strong enough for 3H (i dont see why 3S would be forcing ? the neg double can be weakish 7-8 pts). East is strong enough to bid 3S instead of 4S. West is missing AK of C, A of D and the A of H plus he might have a S loser if they are 4-1 so i think hes got an easy soff.
  22. Over 4Hx you pass with all hands where you think you dont make anything and YOU DONT CARE if they can make 4Hx or not. Therefore a double of 4M preempt should show some hope of beating 4H facing very little. Like a better than average strong NT or better. Or a shapely hand with at least 3 defensive trick. 5C making 6 is what i would expect at most expert tables. IMO partner is favorite to have 3 aces here but he might easily have just 2 clubs. or you might have no wya to pitch the D. Give me the K of D instead of the K of H and ill surely bid 6.
  23. Im with the school that 3H by partner is a decent single raise, 4H is a limt raise and 4D is a GF raise and not a splinter. So partner is streching when hes bidding 4H I also think that partner with the Q of H and a stiff diamond can bid 6D and not 6H. I would do it even for a S singleton (bidding 5S) but its open for discussion. So i guess partner hand is something like. x Qxxxx xx Axxxx or Qx Qxxxx xx AJxx or Qx Qxxx Qxx AJxx So ill stay in 6.
  24. Easy pass at 1. If we make 5S we are getting enough at 5Cx to compensate. If we make 6 will partner always bid it ? The 2nd is annoying but i have good values and they are all working. So double. But i dont thnik ill raise to 6 if partner invite me in H but ill raise diamonds
