What does it mean, using NMF.
benlessard replied to PedroG's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Why would 1m----1H------1Nt --denied 4S ? Walsh ON or OFF opener is allowed to rebid 1Nt if he feel that its a better rebid than 1S. With AQ or better in the unbid minor 1Nt is often better than 1S. -
Agree 100%

The hand was played by me AKxxx of H. Partner bid 7 (I thought it was a bad bid since IMO there is a chance they are not in 6 at the other table) If they are not in slam we are riskying 25 IMPs to win 2 IMPs. I did get a trump lead and I was lucky to have the 9 of H.

FP, Take out?

♠ 5 ♥ Q964 ♦ Q102 ♣ AKJ64 1♣* (3♠) pass (pass) ?? No, not close. x Axxx Axxx Axxx isnt a X for me. My reopening X ALWAYS some slight extras except over 2m. In MP or against weaker players trap passing make sense but against stronger player and in imps trap-passing is only when you are unsure of having the values for game. Agree 100% -
I ill play the A of S If partner doesnt encourage ill play a H.
-
WTP X,X, 4D as long as 4D isnt a slam try.
-
Your hand AJxxx QTxx Ax Ax partner hand is almost known. void AKxxx (no jack) Kxxx Kxxx Partner may have a minor jack but not both since he didnt open 1C (15+) You are playing against a B team in imps. Do you bid 7 ?
-
close between 3D and pass. Im not really afraid of -200 since they wont double even if the 3C is fishy.

fit for p and opps. now what?

I can live with a XX but not R vs W. 3D is 100% shortness showing a self sufficient suit. If hes looking for a stopper he will just cue bid or bid his suit (forcing, the XX guarantee another bid). If you and your partner cant agree on this then ill say that youve got a significant problem here. Opener doesnt have a D void since he would have bid 4D not 4 clubs. After 4H depending on my method, i show extras but no S controls. I expect opener hand to be something like xx AK x AQJxxxxx -
We see that youve herited your grandma "chicken genes". Passing 3H is gross. Not close at all. 2H instead of X is a weak bid. 2H can show crap. No expert will sell out at 2C with Qxxxxx in H.

Agree, but it does come from time to time. The lightner that get punished the most is a positionnal holding over dummy. Lightner X that ask for dummy suit. You have AQT9x over dummy xxxx and declarer KJx. Im pretty sure experts are quite on the safe side when it come to XX. In my experience most business XX tend to make overtricks and xx contracts rarely goes down. On this hand youve made a speculative X, if they are expert players and XX , making +2 is a pretty normal result. Between 1800 vs 660 & 1150 vs 660 its only 5 imps and if you make only 1 overtricks it still 5 Imps. The maths are saying that you should only XX whne you are sure. Of course some players are probably pretty quick on the XX, against these players running might not be the best option.

I dont understand 2H when X is available. This is the textbook hand to X. Values tol for spades 5 in the unbid suit. Once i bid 2H wich is the bid i would have made with 6H to the Q and nothing else i have so much extras that stopping short of game is inconceivable.
-
My average of overtricks when i XX a lightner 3Nt is something close to 2 overtricks. So with a 5-5 is strongly suggest you to run.

People who have successful studies usually fall under one of those categories. 1- They are brillant 2- They are perseverant 3- They are very methodical and follow guidelines. 4- They have great social skill that allow them to swindle throught college or universities. Why wouldnt you hire those people ? Im not saying that its the best time investment possible, but its a fairly good deal and for companies degrees are a kind of safety play.

Are you saying thhat you plan to pass the redouble ?
-
I disagree. I think double is a mistake. If RHO has a strongish balanced hand than partner is broke and will be able to find the h lead all by himself, unless hes got something like 3H and Qx of clubs. If RHO has a long running D suit (likely imo) than X is just too dangerous.
-
I think double is a weak bid. Sure ive got 2 aces but ive already showned values. Its pointless to compete to 4H without values (you are red) Doubling is just bidding the hand twice for no reasons. I also lead the ♥ A.

[hv=d=e&v=n&n=skjxxhkqxdqxxctxx&w=s9xxxhxd7xxxcakxx]266|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] 1Nt (10-14)-------(2H)---------2S----------(3H) all pass. You are not playing negative X so youve decided to bid 2S with only 4. North bid just 3H (terrible imo) all pass. You lead the A of clubs partner play the Q. You play UDCA what is your defense ?
-
I think north was lazy to pass 7H. 5C+4S+1D+4H= 14 You simply dont need a D ruff. If the clubs dont run its because partner has KQ of D anyway. 2C+3D+4H+4S=13

I think that what is important is how often a squeeze is the best line wheiter it work or not. Most of the time a finesse will be as good or better than a squeeze so for me that is not pertinent even if the squeeze work and the finesse fail. Often you are in a pretty hopeless contract and are looking for a lucky break even if the squeeze has little chance of working its pertinent because at the other table the guy might be in the same contract and find the squeeze possibility.

Selling to 1Nt or 2H is just plain bad. Also a direct 2S is much better (even 3S is probably better than 1S)

xx Axxxx Kx Qxxx 1C!-----(1S)-------X (5+)-------(2D) 3C-----(P)---------3H-----------(P) 3S------(X)--------??? 1C is 15+ but not precision. Your X tend to show a balanced hand or a hand without good suit. 3C show 16-19 with clubs 3H is forcing and show a bad suit. 3S show something in spades and is looking for 3Nt. 3Nt or not ? is 4C forcing ?

Tx,AJxxx,Qxx,xxx 1C (15+)-------------------1D (waiting 0+) 1S (5S unbal)--------------1Nt (relay 0+) 2C (♦15-17 or 22+GF)------2D to play (0-8) 3D (5♦ no void GF)---------3H ♦keycards 3Nt (3)--------------------------4D (asking for K of S & showing the ♦Q) 5D (K♠+2nd round of ♥ & ♣ + Q of ♠ + no extras) 6D or not ?
