I also vote for XX. The reasons are already mentioned ;) Caren

we play after 1x pass 1y: - dbl = 54 in the other suits, the economical suit is longer (here 5 ♣s and 4 ♥s) - 1NT = 45, economical suit is shorter (surprise :lol: -> 4 ♣s, 5 ♥s) - 2x = 55 - 2y = natural, (6 cards are fine) So in this example we would bid 2♦. Caren

Hi all! I would like to hear opinions how to play this 3NT in the correct order and what the reasons are [hv=n=sa10xhaqjxd9xxxc10x&s=skqxhkxdkjxck9xxx]133|200|Scoring: IMP Lead: a small ♠, 10 is taken with J by East[/hv] Thx all :o

This could be read in a German bridge forum, therefore I think I can post it here, too (and the last sentence of xxx posting also allows it, I hope): [Nope it didn't - inquiry]

These are also my thoughts. Does anyone know more facts now? I still cannot (or better do not want to) believe that such strong players need cheating and invent a kind of system, no! But it may prove another time that I am naive. To be a member of the appeal's committee must have been some horror... Caren

The lead WAS ♣2 (always lead partner's suit :) )

I was the one who bid it, and I agree!! Perhaps you understand it when you hear the circumstances: I was invited to play a few hands (in the end 7) and agreed because I like the people at that table very much, although I was already on my way to go to sleep. I started with an unknown p at -30 IMPs and the first hand was the one of another thread where the bidding went 2♣ p p p (I offered an undo in private chat). 1 or 2 hands later there appeared another 2♣ opening from the same player as before and we were kidding a bit. When I had the above hand I opened it also 2♣, just for fun (and because we gained already a bucket full of IMPs which started to become embarrassing for me, I offered some back), perhaps I could say in the end to MY p, that he should have been passing 2♣ :P , but in any case I could take the responsability for the opening. I usually play serious but the persons who know me also know that I love a relaxed atmosphere with some chatting and joking. Wayne, please forgive me should I have made some "trouble" :D , I did no minute mean to give offence, neither to you as opps, nor to my partner! I just could not resist  Caren

I play trembling 3NT and Polished Club, Tortellini, even old, surely that brings me up! Forgot how to finesse (the score was a mess)... Now no one accepts me, not even as sub :(

2 palookas tried Smith and McKenney against experts and lost every penny. They sat there whining loud and the experts shouted out: "Better go home now and tell your Nanny!"

I still have that Limerick virus... An expert played with a beauty from France, also hoping for an after tourney romance. She: you didn't give correct count and messed up the compound, you self-proclaimed expert! No chance!

I like going to tango, but - like in bridge - finding the perfect partner is not always easy... A bridgeplayer once went to tango avoiding too much of parlando thinking about some 3clubs and cold beer in near pubs Now he tries out to dance the fandango.

Mauro, did you notice? The number of passers dramatically increased to 4 :)

In the first case I have the majority of the outstanding points and opps weren't interested in majors. So partner should try to find me with my long suit - he already knows that I have at least 4♥s and some points. A lead of the ♥K is not stupid  And when LHO has a strong club opener: playing 2♥ with the given hand must not be funny at all if p has nothing. Should the bidding go pass 1♣ pass 1any you could still bid your ♥s, or? Strong opps are able to bid their hands (or dbl) even when you opened with 1 or 2♥.
-
I would pass, Mauro wrote all the arguments. Assuming we play sound w2s: when partner comes into the bidding and I introduce the ♥s, he can better work out how my hand looks like because I did NOT open, or my hand could be a bad surprise for opps in case of defending. I like to exchange the best possible informations with partner, and I made bad experiences when a w2 can one time be a "poor" suit with outside values, another time it carries AKQxx(x). As p of the w2 opener I want to be more or less sure that I can also lead the suit in defense without making gifts to opps (or to never lead that suit, if the agreement is to open garbage). Should someone hold a gun to my head and forces me to open, I would choose 1♥. Says a non-expert ... Caren

... now I understand "plug and play" :)

Hi! This post if not of any importance but... First of all: BBO works constantly fine! In another posting I wrote that I have problems with my PC since it once crashed. I defraged the harddisk, loaded driver updates and, and, and, the problem with booting (it took about 5 minutes to start windows) was still there. I asked some people who are more expert than me (not hard to find...), nobody had an idea what caused the trouble, one said I need to reinstall windows. Yesterday I "repaired" my PC on my own :D We had a thunderstorm here and I threw the plug for some hours :D Life can be so easy, folks! Have a nice day! Caren

Hi Uday! I am sorry to say that but I have exactly the same problems like Aisha. Recently I played a tourney, got freezed, logged out and in and had to restart my PC which crashed then completely (for the first time ever, windows XP home). Since that day I have severe problems with my PC when booting. I didn't do anything else but the things I usually do: checking emails and play on BBO.... I checked for a virus but didn't find any. Greetings from frozen Caren

This one is the most difficult hand for me. I chose 4♥... Perhaps serious 3NT is better but I wanted to show slam interest AND a ♥-control. 4♣ may seem to be 1.-round control. With what did W bid 2♥ in red? Just AQ........ in ♥s? I am too stupid for this hand
-
I bid 3♥ and hope for partner to do the most intelligent thing now
-
I am also a 4♣ splinter bidder...
