Hi all! I agree with Chamaco's posting. It is great of the experts to spend their time on commenting and I cannot thank them enough!! But sometimes -for me (and friends said the same)- less would be more. I try to focus on bidding and play, and when I notice that there is a comment, I am curious about what the expert says. I like intelligent joking, no question, please take this only as constructive criticism, nobody shall be offended! Yours, Caren

Hi slothy, naturally the ♠J was with W :( I'll give it a long thought whether to play with you or not :) I have kind of a "Trauma" because it seemed to be my destiny that whenever I asked sb to play with me he was about to go ;)

Hi! Thank you for your replies! I won the lead with the ♥A (...) and played at trick 2 a small ♣ to the 9 which lost to the single 10 with E. It was interesting for me if I was right to play it this way. An expert told me to lead ♣Q but I doubted. A heart came back and I made the big mistake not to unblock the K in dummy (for a later trump coup, leaving an entry to my hand in ♥ and make the ♠-finesse at the end ;) ) Here the tricks in particular: 3: ♥, ruffed by W 4: ♦, won by E 5: ♥, ruffed by W 6: ♦, won in dummy 7: ♠ to the Q, won with the A by W 8: small ♣, won by S 9: ♦Q, ruffed by W, overruffed in dummy 10: ♣A fished the ♣K 11: must play the highest outstanding ♥ and was stuck in dummy  --> down 1 *sniff* Caren PS: will still anyone play with me in future?? :(

The meanings of X and XX had never been discussed  , but I thought so as well, and: yes ;)

[hv=d=w&v=b&n=sk102hk763da2caj93&s=sq964haqj10dq43cq2]133|200|Scoring: IMP bidding: pass 1NT pass 2♣ X XX all pass [/hv] The lead is ♥5. 1. Is the bidding ok? 2. How do you plan the play in details? Greetings, Caren

Thx for your replies! Here is what happened: I played rubber with two local heroes (one was my p) and another man. I went into the books for a while and my favourite bid would have been pass, but I thought that there is a small chance for 3NT and that was what I put on the table. N had ♠- ♥Kxx ♦AJ109xxx ♣Jxx The ♦-honours were not both third in E's hand and so 6♦ was lay-down while 3NT was 2 off (opps simlpy took 6 ♠s; unlucky that the man with the 6♠s was on lead :) ). And then the big lament began (very, very loud): 5♦ from me is a must with my hand (I did not even think of it, but another local hero who is a sound player said the same...). As ususal I said not much but to my opinion the opening bid was crazy because it is too strong for a preempt. Do you open with a preempt whith a void?

Dealer: N vuln.: both N opens 3♦, East passes. S: ♠J8x ♥AJx ♦8x ♣AKQ10x What do you bid when the scoring is a.) IMP b.) matchpoints? Have a nice day :) Caren

Hi experts! I still do not see why 4♦ is stronger than 4♣. What is 4♣ in "common sense"? What is your weakest hand for a 3♦-overcall?
-
I am no BBO-Guru but dare to answer ;-) I think it is an invitational bid (next opp passed), slam interest must go over a cue bid. The 3♦ bidder told his story: at least opening strength up to 16(17) and a good ♦suit. Caren

BBO is a funny (in de humorous sense) place!

Very  thread!!! I forgot most of the funniest actions at the table, but kind of impressive were chats out of the blue going: unknown He:"Hi". Me:"Hi" "You have such a beautiful name" "ty" "Are you blond?" "No, and I don't have big eyes". This did not only happen once... -
Hi Mauro! I solved this by -> clicking on VIEW -> disabling "show full tables" -> enabling "show empty seats" Caren

I started this topic because I felt guilty for misleading p. Recently a very good player and partner here in my area asked me why I am such an aggressive bidder in some situations and we figured out that it is because I do not like beeing compared with the "clubaunties" and therefore bid like men do (or what I think they do...) :) . Mauro, I had my doubts about MY hand, I did not want to blame you in any case! I think my big mistake was not to double when the bidding proceeded: (pass) 1♦ (1♥) D (3♥) 3♠ (4♥), which I passed (auntily...) I find it very helpfull to discuss general problems and getting so many detailed answers here. Thank you all! Caren

Partners never make mistakes!

Hi again! I (when I play with myself  ) play that x shows 4 ♠s and 1♠ shows 5 in this situation. A many times German champion once told me that it is bad not to bid 1♠ with 4 ♠s with Ben's arguments. But in this hand I had the idea that it must be good to show at least 8 cards, not 4+, and the ♠s were lousy. But other questions come up: implies bidding here also a proposition for a sacrifice over 4♥? Do I think that 4♥ will have good prospects and we should bid 4♠? Is it better to bid and hope that opps now think game is unlikely or is it better to pass and hope opps do not find 4♥? Who is captain, N with a limited hand, or S? Greetings, Caren

Hi! I would like you to take away my doubts :) You sit on South: [hv=d=w&v=n&s=sj98xhkxxdxxck9xx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] System: precision Bidding: (pass) 1♦* (1♥) ?? *may be doubleton To bid or not to bid is the question (and why). Ty! Caren

Thanks for your replies! It seems to be a big advantage to know the opponents. One of my students always falsecards by refusing to play highest from a sequence: she does not want opps to know her holding. That is the same lady who normally underleads her ace against trumpcontracts B) And beware of playing against me in real life. I look innocent but... Have a nice day! Caren

Hi all! I read with much interest the topic about falsecarding. My topic now has nothing to do with layouts but i.e. with psychology. Whenever I was caught at the table, means a good player had success in falsecarding against me, I said "well done opp" and thought "damn, he got me" or even worse  . And I swore that the next time I will play like "dogmeat" or the wellknown clubcucumbers because too much thinking took me to hell. So my question to you experts is: do you also run into the knife or do you have so much tablepresence that you smell a rat? Knowing a lot about right falsecarding provides losing the postmortem but the feeling is always bad, right? TY! Caren (yes, a female...)

Coupling responsive double with Lebensohl ?
42 replied to Chamaco's topic in Natural Bidding Discussion
Hi! My overcall was not really good, I should have bid 2♥, and then, after the responsive X, ask for ♠-stopper. 5 losers seemed so beautiful  Full hand: ♠xx ♥AKDxx ♦AK ♣10xxx We later discussed and I mentioned that I was surprised by ♠AD. Chamaco did fine in this hand! The questions did not only depend on this special hand... Have a nice day  Caren
