Simple transfer responses to a NAT 1C
ulven replied to DinDIP's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
David knows a lot already about Swedish bidding methods :) -
Used to use transfers here. Now believe showing extra strength is the way to go, as Echognome and Phil. But with a different view on reverses/jumpshifts and continuations.

Every member of the federation has a handicapp, intially based on masterpoints then continually adjusted (like a separate system).

http://www.malmobridge.se/ I live in the area.

Yes. 2C only forces 2D after a 1NT-rebid.

My (I think) addition to theory(3nt in cuebidding)
ulven replied to bluecalm's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
Something new isn't that difficult, something NEW that's also GOOD will indeed be difficult :( Well, I happen to think I've done that. But it goes into an article instead of the forum. Got one accepted for TBW, another one to be submitted. Edit: Above refers to cuebidding. Submitted articles on other bidding areas as well. -
3NT or 4-4 major fit
ulven replied to waubrey's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Was initially published in San Remo Open Europeans bulletins last summer. -
This opening has been popular in the south of Sweden for almost 30 years. Gained a more widespread popularity the last decade and is currently used by Swedish Open Team pairs Fredin-Fallenius, de Knijff-Wrang and Cullin-Upmark (last pair didn't get selected for this European, first two went down in Vandy semi last weekend). Fits well with Gazzilli-variant where 2C after 1M-1S/1NT shows 14+. 6+M or any 16+. In Sweden most play that 1M-1NT; 2M shows 11-15, 4+C. The common responding structure is to use 2NT as Jacoby-variant with assumed support, invitational or better (i.e. same scheme as 1M - 2NT).
-
A favorite structure I've played is: 2D = weak in D or weak in H 2H = weak in S or 7-10 55+ H & m 2S = 7-10 55+ S & m Played this on-and-off for years (1993-1997) and it worked very well. Stopped because Brown Sticker hazzle.

When I play natural I use 1C-1S; 4C as big balanced raise to 4M.

This is actually also discussed in a BOLS tips many years ago. http://www.haroldschogger.com/MaxRebatu.htm -
Expert Bridge Complicated

Anders Wirgren has written an article about exactly this which will be published in The Bridge World. The article was submitted quite a while back, inspired by deal from the 2008 Europeans in Pau. Should appear soon. I have a copy of the article but can't distribute or discuss it. -
Could this be a way to play through iPhone/iTouch next year? http://gizmodo.com/5374868/flash-apps-to-c...t-not-to-safari

It's been a while since I opened it, but I remember thinking Barry Rigal's Precision in the 90's was pretty good. I don't know if I still think that though...

Masakatsu Sugino of PS-bridge has collected the data from Swan games and put together 2 PDF's for the whole round-robin. All hands and contracts, but you can't see names of pairs (only country), probably because that wasn't available when the data was generated. You can of course check the official site to see what pair played for each country in what direction if you want to. http://psbridge.gotdns.com/2009bb/ Excellent IMHO.

ACBL General Convention Chart
ulven replied to TimG's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I believe there's a difference in the strength of the opening bid. While 2M showing 5+M & 4+m is regulated, the suggested ACBL-defence states it's a weak, obstructive bid. If you were to play the same opening bid with a range of say 11-15, i.e. a natural constructive bid, I think that's ok. As for the statement about 10+ hcp and two known suits I think the intent is to refer to constructive non-natural openings, such as Flannery 2D. So playing 2D as 11-15 and 5+S & 4+ minor isn't allowed. When you don't have the suit opened, both suits has to be known. The reasoning revolves around how difficult it is to defend, i.e can a T/O double be passed out and it turns out that was opener's second suit. E.g. Ekeblad plays 2C as 6+C or 4+C & 5+S and 11-15. -
As I use Chrome, I just decided to try IE instead. All worked fine there except the Mailbox issue. Still only able to use letters and 0-9 (no number shift). The other "mapping" issues seems browser related. User Profile and Hands and results worked with IE. FYI, I run Chrome on dev channel (3.0.191.3).

1) Do the >s appear where you are typing or do the characters appear normally until the actual chat message itself is displayed in the area above where you type? 2) Assuming that the >s actually appear when you are typing, can you please try typing in some other areas and let me know if the same behavior occurs? For example, try editing the "Other" part of your user profile by clicking "My BBO" then "User profile". Thanks, Fred Gitelman Bridge Base Inc. www.bridgebase.com >s appears as I write. "Shifted" characters on all number (and other top-/sidelevel) keys are different as well. Seems pretty random to me, but maybe correlated to a US layout. Testing from work (eng XP, swe key layout). When choosing Mailbox, Compose Mail from My BBO, only US letters and numbers 0-9 work. Any other key or shift doesn't produce anything. Shifting letters work, but shifting numbers doesn't return anything. Can't therefore produce @ or similar. Also under My BBO, top alternatives, User Profile and Hands and results doesn't work (i.e nothing triggers).

c/ There's a bug in the chat function. Both when trying on my home (Samsung, XP, swe) and work (Dell, XP, eng) PC, the keyboard layout gets mysteriously re-mapped when <shift> is used. ;: are just some characters that sits to the right of <m> for me, available thru shift. In the web-client, it all comes out as >.

a/ I'd like to be able to choose language, instead of letting the OS decide. I'm so used to English that I prefer that, but I'm forced into Swedish (with some awkward translations of bridge terms). b/ Scores for each deal in "My results" isn't updated as they change (when more people played the hands).
