  1. I never play on mobile client, only kibitz vugraph and interesting tables. For that purpose I'd say maybe $10 or $15 but I could go higher. And I just don't want to think about if I have money in an account or not. If putting money in an account there would remove ads forever in mobile client, sure I can do that.
  2. Yes, paid/pro version of app that removes ads. Ads totally ruin it for me and I've contacted Fred about it. Unless a lot of people object it's unlikely to change. So I've stopped using the mobile BBO app. Btw, I don't mind it in the web client, but the limited screen estate on mobile and the blinking ad is a total killer :(
  3. As you're probably aware of, everything is a matter of tradeoffs. You will not always end up in the best partscore, but there are a bunch of other benefits if you use the space well. You can look up my article in TBW to read more about plus/minus. You take your pick what's best suited for you. I'm not trying to convert anyone. Let me just say that sometimes there's a difference between theory and practise of what gives you the best results. And if someone asks if this is playable or not and you state that it isn't, and I know it is, I'm willing to to put that in print. (It also seems to work really well for Welland-Auken.)
  4. I don't know of your practical experience of this but being someone who has played this on every level (including winning a bronze medal at the open europeans) I can assure all interested that it works. You need to work out the subsequent auctions and if these are substandard you're more likely to get bad results.
  5. I have the same issue (Samsung Galaxy Note) but have solved this with Dim Blocker https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.frezzfiles.android.dimblocker&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5mcmV6emZpbGVzLmFuZHJvaWQuZGltYmxvY2tlciJd Tap the widget before launching the BBO app.
  6. Probably invented in more than one place. In Sweden they started in the mid-80's by the 'Scanian' group, without any outside influence. Nilsland-Wirgren played transfer responses to 1C in the Miami Rosenblum 1986 (finished 3rd with Fallenius-Lindkvist).
  7. Might want to check out The Bridge World, 2009, Nov issue.
  8. May I ask you a copy of all 143? Plan to put lin-file through http://www.bridgecaptain.com/downloadDD.html filter and have a further look. I currently put 18-19 into 2C.
  9. I'm on TBW record for what I think is the right approach ;)
  10. That's non-standard continuations. 2D-2M, 2NT means 6322-type.
  11. I don't know their specifics, but it used to be pretty common here. What do you want to know?
  12. I used the phrase 'seems' when commenting on the statistic. If that statement qualifies as an 'lol' then you must be spending a significant number of hours each day having a real blast. Happy to contribute to that bliss.
  13. Using http://www.bridgecaptain.com/downloadDD.html and sampling 3614 deals from BBO Vugraph archives, some people here might be interested in statistics using the DDS filter. Especially those that look less favorably on Precision 1D/2C openings in a 5-card M framework. I've just picked some samples from stats (teaser). Meckwell overall (3614 deals): +0.39 imps/board (compared to teammates) MW open (1899): +0.42 Opps open (1711): +0.33 1C-opening (360): +0.54 no overcall (73): +0.44 simple overcall (147): +0.93 they overcall/they declare (41): +2.49 1D-opening (521): +0.70 no overcall (168): +0.57 Both 1C and 1D is bigger imp-gainer when opps interfere. Simple overcall vs strong 1C especially bad tactic ;). 1NT-opening (321): -0.31 2C-opening (66): +1.36 Opps open bidding, MW don't overcall (702): +0.21 Opps open, MW make single jump overcall (51): -0.57 Opps open, MW overcall, but opps declare (515): +0.73 Single jump overcalls seems significantly ineffective. Getting in there with simple overcalls on lesser values seems big winner. It's possible to dig deeper with time and reasonably fast computer and maybe find some more interesting facts behind the numbers.
  14. How would you interprete this? Uncontested auctions. Fantoni opens the bidding (646 deals): -0.12 imps/board Nunes opens the bidding (618 deals) +0.99 There might of course be something wrong with the filter but the author seems to have spent a lot of time to get it right. Other forum members with collected data might want to double-check.
  15. 1C revealed. based on same set of data as above. Total (534 deals): +0.48 imps/board No overcall (259 deals): -0.13 (!!) LHO overcall (136 deals): +1,40 RHO overcall (139 deals): +0.71 Breaking down overcalls of 1C: Simple (240): +1.13 Jump (20): +0.85 Double jump+ (15): +0.07 2-level suit openings lumped together: Total (540 deals): +0.60 No overcall (246): +0.47 LHO overcall (170): +0.52 RHO overcall (124): +0.98 They overcall/We declare (85): -0.42 They overcall/They declare (209): +1.17 Note: the filter does not state how X of opening bid is classified. Will check with author.
  16. I’ve compiled vugraph data, starting 2006, up until (but not including) the Dublin Europeans for Fantunes (5097 deals) and used filtering in Double Dummy Solver (http://www.bridgecaptain.com/downloadDD.html) Some stats that might be interesting: They are then, compared to the other table in play (all deals are team play): +0.64 imps/board. Fantunes open (2423 deals): +0.71 Opps open (2652 deals): +0.58 Fantunes declare: +0.52 Fantunes defend: +0.77 Fantoni open (1185 deals): +0.27 Nunes open (1238 deals): +1.13 They open, auction uncontested: +0.42 They open, opps overcall: +1.03 Fantoni overcalls (737 deals): +0.20 Nunes overcalls (714 deals): +0.69 Looking at 1NT-opening: 641 times: +0.66 When LHO overcall 1NT (149 deals): +0.42 RHO overcall (132 deals): +1.30 Can go on here for a while…
  17. As a Swede I can say that in Sweden the default meaning here, stating 2nd and 4th, actually is Schneider/Rusinow (i.e always 2nd/4th, also from honor sequences). That's probably an incorrect use of the term, but one that 99+% of those who declare that method is unaware of. Actually here you would fool people if you stated 2nd/4th and led the Q from QJxx... Crossing to Denmark, stating 2nd/4th correctly refers only to non-honor cards.
  18. http://www.migry.com/Articles%20and%20other%20tidbits%20pdfs/multi2D.pdf "However, strangely enough, the 2♥ and 2♠ Tartan Twos suffer an average loss of - 0.31." "...the most damning feature of the opening is the fact that its users dedicate the 2♥ and 2♠ openings to weak two suiters with five card in the bid major and a minor and those openings present a heavy negative IMP outcome." "The data includes all the deals played in the European Championships from 1997 to 2004 and the knock-out stages of Olympics and World Championships from 1987 to 2003, whenever there are comparisons from all tables in play." [Tartan Two is like Muiderberg]
  19. Found this: http://bridge.aucy.com/ A BBO client for Android in beta. Haven't had time to test really yet, just installed and logged on.
  20. For a first release. this is very, very good! Love the interface. Keep working on this - big hit! (I'm on Samsung Galaxy Note, 2.3.6)

  22. http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/09/adobe-confirms-flash-player-is-dead-for-mobile-devices/ "...the company [Adobe] will continue to work on Flash Player for desktop operating systems, but one can't help but see the platform as a whole standing on fairly shaky footing at this point." This seems ominous for the web client. Any offical comments?
