  1. [hv=n=s109haq9xdjcakjxxx&s=sakqjxh10xxdaxxcq10]133|200|[/hv] Yesterday, my pd and me had a little accident on this hand. This was the bidding North Sotuh 1C 1S 2H 3D* 3S - 4D** 4S ?? 4NT 5H 5NT *** 6C**** 6H ***** Pass ? * 4 Suit forcing **- Cue 5H - 2 KC w/o Q *** - Specific Kings ask, grand slam try ****- King of clubs, may have another *****- Ask for King of hearts for 7 Ok, Partner said he was confused and passed 6H. 6 level will get you a decent score, but 7 is superb. You may not like the bidding, like reverse is a little light, or spade preference with 2, but I think auction was fine till the end. Spade preference worked well here, as pinpoints singleton diamond, and improves South Hand. Other alternative is 4C bid, and its unclear how to proceed after that ( 4H, 4S, sound like sign off, also 4NT sound natural and not Blackwood)? Do you think South can bid 7 after 6C? ( North thins that 6C bid effectively denied king of H, as he would jump tp 7 with both) Do you think North can upgrade his hand with 6th club and bid 7NT? Some people found 7, with not too stellar auctions, of course Comments?
  2. [hv=n=saxhkxdakxxxcqxxx&s=skqxhqxdqxxxcakjx]133|200|[/hv] 12 tricks are of course trivial, and 6NT is best in MP. But how do you get there after 2♥ preempt? This was the bidding N E S W 1D 2H X Pass 3C pass 3H Pass 3NT all pass You may not agree with the bidding, and seems both partner have excess power. Do you agree with Neg X? is 3♥ better? North maintaines that South should bid 4NT, quantitive and that 6NT will be reached. But South does not see slam with some minimal opener with North. Take away A or K of ♦ from North, and now 10 tricks are in jeopardy.
  3. [hv=n=skqxhaq10xxdxxxckq&s=sxxhkxdaj8ca1098xx]133|200|[/hv] IMP Pairs Recently, we missed the best game on these cards and landed in unmakeable 5C, due to 4-1 clubs. I ll give you two auctions, none of them was the actual one. Please elaborate which one you like better and why, and if you are forced to bid like Option 2, what is your interpretation of 3 Spade bid ( Option 1 or 2) Thanks 1) South North 1♣ 1♥ 2♣ 2♦* 3♣ 3NT 2) South North 1♣ 1♥ 2♣ 2♦* 3♣ 3♠** * Alerted, asks for further description ** 1) Partner, I want to try 3NT, I have spade stopper, but I was only joking about diamonds. If you have diamonds stopped please bid 3NT ** 2) Partner, I want to try 3NT, but I worry about spades. I have partial or shaky stopper, (Qxx) If you can help , please bid 3NT, if not we will try game in clubs
  4. Opener A73,A2,KQJ4,KQJ7 opposite KQ542,97,AT5,AT7 Matchpoints. This was table auction 2NT - 3H 3S - 5NT ( Pick a slam) 6S It would be interested to see Strong Club Auctions too.
  5. Well, I agree with the posters that this is favorite to go down. This hand was given to me by friend, and I dont have the full hand. However, 3D was unbeatable, and partner found a bad moment to open light. You can probably see that declarer will get good breaks in his key suits ( like spades 3-3 and Diamonds something like 3-2 or 3-1, and it looking like that only one of the clubs is cashing ( Declarer is probably 5-2-5-1) This was partners hand A X X K Q 7 X X X J J X X
  6. We are vulnerable This is your hand - Q42,Q932,AJT954 PD You 1H 2C 2D ?? What is your bid? ( Lets assume you did bid 2 clubs as GF, perhaps a strech) Do you like your chances for some diamond slam or go back to hearts? Rate these rebids bids from 0 to 10;) 2H 3S ( Splinter) 3D 3H 4H
  7. Opponents vulnerable and you hold J62,T,QT8,AKT765 Bidding is like this Pd RHO You LHO 1H (1S) 2C Pass 2H (3D) ? 1) What is your bid? 2) Do you think its close between double and pass? 3) Would double be penalty or cards showing?
  8. 1 spade bidders must be really thrilled when partner leads against 3NT from Kx of spades. This hand has some defensive potential, and spades are ,hmm well enough bad to give me nausea. I pass for now and await development
  9. This is unrealistic. Why does not this hand raise to 3H immediately? Spur 3 card support for partner after he bid the suit twice? I would be very surprised if part has more then 3 hearts. He is worried about singleton club and play in NT, so corrects to 4H with a doubleton. Not so sure we should get that excited that this sequence is a serious slam try. 5-2-5-1 is the most likely distribution, followed by 5-2-4-2
  10. It would be more interesting if partner is not a passed hand. I see fit is almost always assumed w/o prior discussion. I am not so sure. I found another interpretation in a book by William Root - 12-14 points, good 6 card suit, dont care about diamonds, strongly invitational. Obviously this applies for non passed hand. Fit jump has some advantages, but I would not call this completely ridiculous. For people who would bid just 1H ( non forcing) and see what happens, well it is not exactly the same. Using the bid above, u describe your hand nicely in 1 shot
  11. I agree with jdonn sequences. The worst bid, however is 3NT IMO. 4 aces, opposite 6-4 opener simply is too pessimistic, and even can go down when we can not cash enough tricks. This is clear will be a suit contract, so South owe partner a 4club cue, or even 4s will do. North will be the one using old Black, and can count 13 tricks
  12. I am very surprised you treat this heart suit as 1 loser hand? it is not even close, Opposite very likely singleton, it is more like 3 loser hand. It may play a litle better then spades, but I think people bidding 4H are overly optimistic hoping to find good support in dummy.
  13. This is probably very close. I dont have lot of experience in 2/4 to judge but there are players who live and die by it, and low from doubleton is one of the "must" requirements. Especially popular with Polish club players and some Bulgarians. Whether it can claim some superiority, hard to say.
  14. I agree with 2 1/2 hearts,, probably this hand is closer to 3H then bidding just 2. It is just too likely we will miss a game. Regarding 2C, i think it will be an overbid, even in SAYC, and this hand is not worht that much with void in partners suit. So, you think partner will put the brakes after you bid clubs and twice spades? You would make the same bid with AKJxx - Ax AQxxxx, how is partner gonna know which hand do you have?
  15. Is this really true? I would say it is the other way around, 3NT is more appealing at MP. Provided you have enough HCP power, often number of tricks will be the same. Maybe it wins when partner has a doubleton, and we have marginal game values, like 9 points, but even then u may not need the ruff. and playing 4-3-3-3 oposite 4-3-3-3 in major? Blah.. With excess HCP power, like 12+ points, 3NT will be almost always the winner, even opposite 4-4-3-2-
  16. This hand has too much potential for 4H. Spinter , yes but which one? :P Probably spade is what partner wants to hear. Then South can make forward move with cue or 4NT. Not so sure about 7 though, will be worried about D loser
  17. Agree with this, it is what is pretty much standard 2/1 with one note. 2NT as opener can show two type of hands, balanced 12-14 or balanced 18-19 usually with less then 3 hearts. Opener bids 4NT at his second turn to show the hand #2 ( its not Blackwood). I have not seen this very often, but that what it is Mike Lawrence 2/1. 3Nt at second turn, should show 15-17 (18), balanced, that hand you dislike to open 1NT.
  18. I would probably go passive and return a heart. This game is marginal and partner is marked with few points and declarer just misguessed trumps. The only worry maybe be can eventual club loser dissapear ( on diamonds), in case declarer has AK10x, or AKxxx. In case of desparation, he may decide to take diamonds finesse and be succesfful, but I will bet against that. Edit: From the first trick, partner likely has Q of clubs, and declarer the king
  19. I would be surprised if declarer comes to 9 tricks here, unless very strong and can rattle tons of spade and diamond tricks. Problem is that partner maybe be endplayed once or twice. I would play a spade, but then he will know what to return? Any return can give declarer a trick.
  20. Actually, I just realized I made mistake in my post;) Direct dbl is support , isnt it? ( Assuming it is on the card). If not agreed, then agree, its takeout. Read somewhere though , I think from E. Kantar, suggestion two way double , either takeout, singleton, or penalty stack with 4 trumps. Partner should suppose to deduce ( guess?) which one is more likely. This mostly applies after 1NT responce by responder.
  21. Agree with double and will be expert winning choice, some problems maybe in undiscussed prtnrship? It is not maybe clear takeout, but it is one of those " do something intelligent please" Should convey message like this 1) Partner, we have majority of the power, but not sure what is the best contract 2) I probably have 5+ hearts and short spades and failry balanced hand. 3) I dont mind too much if you pass dbl, but better have 4 trumps, and they should be good;) ( Double could work wonders where p has 4 trumps and singleton ♥) Incidently, what would be X by opener immediately after 2♠? Penalty stack, suggesting defence? Two way double ( Either takeout with singleton spade, or trump stack with 4?) So his pass denies any of these hands?
  22. This is very plausable and probably best, but as someone said, partnership can hit some rough patch if undiscussed. At Matchpoints, 6NT is really tempting, and given we have 33 hcp, most of the time will take same number of tricks as 6♠.
  23. Ditto One sensible bid for North is 3♦, confirming stopper and asking South to bid 3NT with stoppers in other suits and generally good maximum hand. Many South may they re-evaluate and then bid 3NT, but this contract will be a minority.
  24. 1!H all day. I admit that problem hand with 4 spades would be much more interesting. Should we vote on that one? :)
