  1. I would bid 1S with this hand. Switch clubs and diamonds, and I double. Switch clubs and diamonds, make the diamonds stronger by an ace, and make the clubs a small stiff, and I bid 1S, then rebid diamonds aggressively. Peter
  2. I don't agree with Michaels,, for two reasons: 1) I like to play it either weak or very strong. This hand is intermediate (though potentially excellent). This is a style issue, it may not apply to you. 2) Pd won't think 6-6. I would bid 1S, then rebid 3D, then rebid spades if I get the opportunity. Peter
  3. Agree. I think 3D would be a overbid opposite an unpassed hand, as well. This is a problem you face when you overcall at the one level with real crap (as I do all the time). Your *minimum* range becomes wide. Wayne, I'm thinking your thought process may have gone something like "I would have overcalled with a king less than what I have, I can't just bid 2S". Oh, yes you can :) Just because you overcall on real crap (good and common practice, IMO), doesn't make the present hand any better. Peter
  4. I guess we play in different locales. BTW, in the ACBL, wjs in competition doesn't require an alert, a fit jump does. Peter
  5. No, partner has decided that his hand isn't worth 3H. That leaves a pretty wide range. Peter
  6. Based on the common agreement of 3D being a wjs in competition, I would scream :) 2D is an overbid, 3D hides my support, and 2H is too wimpy vul at imps. I bid 2D, and prepare to apologize. At matchpoints I would just bid 2H and be done with it. How many other posters make dumb bids because it's imps? Peter
  7. There's been a lot of speculation on what 2S and 3D promise, or don't, including by me. Wayne, what system were you playing? Does 2S promise 6? Does 3D promise extras? Peter
  8. I don't think this hand is good enough for a splinter, which I play as GF. If 3D was an invitational splinter, it's OK. Peter
  9. I open 1C. My rebid is, depending on pd's response: 1. After 1D, 1H 2. After 1H, 3H 3. After 1S or 1NT, 2C This hand is not strong enough for a reverse, in my style. Peter
  10. 3D, 3H a close second. Peter
  11. Not for me, or most of the pairs I play against. It shows 3+ trump and no independent slam interest. Peter
  12. I think the hand is worth 3D (assuming it's GF), but barely, it's a judgement call. I agree with Arend, 4NT is a poor bid. Peter
  13. 2D seems obvious on 1, though 3D is understandable. I'd bid 3C (long suit try) on 2. Peter
  14. Clear double. I would probably have doubled the first time around, but that's a close call, and I wouldn't criticize a partner who passed. Peter
  15. 6H or double. I'm feeling optimistic, 6H. Peter
  16. 1NT. This is purely a style question. Peter
  17. This is true to some extent if their *nutty bidding* is consistent. This is usually not the case. Peter
  18. 1. I would pass, not close. 2. I would pass, I'd bid if white. Coming in over a strong NT white with nothing is a good idea IMO, not nearly so good red. 3. I'd bid 2H. 4. I'd bid 2D. 5. No double. Peter
  19. Tough call between 2S and 3D, We're red at imps, so 2S. Peter
  20. And for me, an obvious end :) Both hands are nice before the bidding starts, but neither are great after pd bids their void. Agree. I think 6C on this is Forum bidding. Peter
