  1. I agree with you about the weak NT. I prefer weak NT systems myself. I disagree with you that most SA players would pass with that hand. In a strong NT field, I would expect 80% plus of the field to open. Peter
  2. Speaking as a software professional and a BBO regular, I have to say that this is a smart move. One word of advice: try as hard as you can to minimize takeaways. In my experience, if you give users 10 things they have been asking for and take away two, they notice the two <_< I agree completely. Peter
  3. 2S all the time, even unfavorable at imps. Peter
  4. As I learned it, the standard meaning of a bid at the two level in response to partner's takeout double, after interference, tends to show 6+ hcp, or a fifth card with a little less. Sorry, you're not avant-garde  Peter
  5. I doubt it  The vulnerabilty, plus partner rates to have something from the bidding. If I'm wrong, next hand. Peter
  6. Never, NEVER be shocked at all white  Peter
  7. I agree that they both got it wrong, but I put the blame on them equally: both clearly have GF hands. 4C was the correct response. Peter
  8. No, why would we do that :D You pays your money and you takes your choice. Peter
  9. I will bid 3NT opposite any partner, though one of my partners has a simlar style to one of Frances' (and myself) :D Peter
  10. I've played these 9-12 type of openers a lot, and I would be delighted to have opps play weak jump overcalls. On average, we have more defense than a normal weak two, and really little, if any, more chance of making the contract. My pd and I play double of the overcall as penalty, and it DOES come up, so promiscuous WJOs are risky. Opener's partner knows the combined strength pretty well, so he is well positioned to make a decision. Peter
  11. Gerben: What was the auction and result at the table? Peter
  12. Tough one, Pass, 4H and 5C could all be right. Pass. Peter
  13. Yes, I agree. Open 4S, because it describes the hand, you don't have a rebid problem, and it shuts out your opponents. Peter
  14. You wouldn't open 4S in NAMYATS. FWIW, when I played NAMYATS the requirement was that your suit was good enough to set trump and you had 8-8.5 playing tricks. This hand isn't quite good enough, by that (perhaps non-mainstream :P ) definition, but the suit is. Peter
  15. Agree. I'd bid even if 2C vulnerable at imps. The 5th club is determinate. Peter
  16. Opening 4 is clear in my style. Curious, what do you do with5S4+H hands? Peter
  17. Well, you can't see the faces or motions, and hesitations are totally unreliable... I wouldn't worry about it. Peter
  18. 3D seems clear, we have a 9 card fit. Peter
  19. Yes, and in many partnerships, North could have bid 1H the first time. Peter
