  1. say you had: AKJx x xxx AQTxx 1♦-1NT;-2♣ is a must. Treat your 4-2-2-5 with bad doubletons the same.
  2. Could be: Hegedus/Honti cc on ecatsbridge They use a big club, and 2NT: (21)46 11-15 HCP, min Qxxx in ♦s
  3. There are a whole stack of people who say "could be short" and it means far more than just the 4=4=3=2 case. If you take the 'ridiculous example" and flip the minor suits (i.e. making it a 4=4=0=5), there are pairs that open 1♦ as 11-15, "could be short". Some though are nice to say "could be short as zero", but then it takes several questions to find out the hand types that are in or not in 1♦. Likewise questions are necessary over a "could be short" 1♣ as methods vary.
  4. you said "may be short and is NOT forcing AND is NOT strong (15+ hcp)" - what part of that does not match the hand I gave?
  5. That's because this hand: [hv=d=s&v=&s=sakq3ha842d98754c]133|100|[/hv] if it opens 1♣, non-forcing, is an ACBL "natural" bid.
  6. The best "convention" that world champions Meckwell have on their wbf cc is "All points can be adjusted in any situation" and "Judgement allowed in any situation".
  7. yes, with the Multi/vandy story part of the editorial on page 14
  8. The choice of the IBPA bulletin editor to have on page 14 (the page just before the letters) the Multi story from the Vandy is interesting, especially since it was young against the establishment involving system restrictions, which in part were decided by one of the pair who suggest a procedural penalty.
  9. seems strongest ever and one of the best vugraphs ever btw Geoff Hampson - Fred Gitelman: Meckwell Lite or 2/1 or Canuck-representing-USA Std?
  10. Exactly - lots of useful space ideas were going on before the principle got named and documented by JR
  11. You mean a 2nd seat, red vs. white, 5 card weak two bid with a side four card major?
  12. I play Hamman & Zia against the swinger, Hamman to his left, and Meckwell at the other table, Meck in the swinger's spot.
  13. With some hesitation, it was Meck vs. Miles in today's bulletin on page 6: http://www.acbl.org/nabc/bulletins/2010/01/5/ btw congrads to the Barts (page 1)
  14. I picked answering forum posts as it is the most workload of all
  15. Note that the US seeding process involves the results of events where non-US world class opponents are also involved - obtaining seeding points from these events is a good predictor of being able to effectively compete on the world stage.
  16. One thing to keep in mind is the objective of the national team selection. Is it: - to select the best team at beating good teams from the same nation - to select the best team at beating the best teams from other nations Most national selections naturally go for the first, but that is often not the actual objective.
  17. They didn't have strong meanings when they played Multi, which they no longer do, retreating to short ♦ 2♦ and weak twos in the majors.
  18. what did you read and research to give you this misguided view?
  19. Please remove the number of the ACBL TD from your discussion, replacing with nn, to avoid identifying a particular TD. The recommended, by BBO, approach to resolving these problems is to first discuss with the BBO ACBL team, before bringing it to the forums.
  20. The vugraph and this particular deal is written up by Barry Rigal in the latest NEC Cup Bridge festival bulletin, starting on page 13 of this online pdf: http://www.jcbl.or.jp/game/nec/necfest10/n...letins/blt4.pdf Btw the festival's web site is: http://www.jcbl.or.jp/game/nec/necfest.html
  21. This is board 18 in: http://www.jcbl.or.jp/game/nec/necfest10/n.../scores_q10.pdf On board 22, the +12s were fun, and I wonder without remorse or not?
  22. The hand record is in BBO's handviewer format - click on Next repeatedly to see the bidding and play.
  23. The 1♠ negative was in action today, playing a game. See board 19 of: http://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer...ch.php?id=12598 NS in the closed room play Spry, one of several systems that has the 1♠ negative response.
  24. This is all ok and fine with me too. However social networking studies have shown that when real and full names are used (e.g. facebook compared to myspace), politeness increases. Thus while it is ok and fine to not disclose names, I think it is better than ok to have them.
