Hand Analysis
mishovnbg replied to lucky_dom's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Hi friends! How many of you read "Evaluation of hands" by Mike Lawrence? This is hard for reading book, but it worth carefull study. Misho -
Happy and certain of success bid 3♣ and stay there. Misho

Hi Gonzalo! Will be important for you to study very carefull Law, if you prepare yourself as champion. How do you expect to win, if you don't know rules, by which you suppose to win? Yes, rules are very boring, but if you really like to win, you need them too. Else you will be vulnerable to attack at table by speculative usage of Law. Some of theese tricks you can find at Slavinski page, address I posted in BBO forum. Misho

Hi Gonzalo! I am wonder what you will say, if you know that Marshall Miles wrote about overcalls with 4 cards at 3 level ;) Misho

Precision 1c without negative response
mishovnbg replied to Flame's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
Hi Ron! "Two way club systems like Polish Club, Svan etc very rarely use transfers to 1C, as the 1D response is required for a negative." It is true that polish club players rare use transfers to 1♣, but it is simple mistake or unwilling to use more complicate methods. The perfect place for transfer responses is exactly PC. It include all nesesary for successful continuations after 0+ transfers: clear rebids of 1NT/2♣(no need 1♦ negative unlike precision) and right sided contracts with strong NT and GF hands. Need to say development of system with 0+ transfers is very difficulte, because new idea to keep opps out of balancing, do same with your own partner ;). Bocchi-Duboin and Fantoni-Nunes use this idea too. Misho -
2NT sign off, for 3♣ in this case. My p have probably 6♣-4♦ at least and is not enough strong to bid 2♥ cue bid, so we didn't have game. We are in missfit and 2♠ will be probably doubled by 1NT bidder, whlie 3♣ I hope not. Misho

Hi Jola!♥ Talk with your ISP to give you one more IP for second PC - it is probably possible for him and will cost you few money - in BG 2.5 euro per month. This will solve at least problem with somebody paranoia ;) . Misho -
Precision 1c without negative response
mishovnbg replied to Flame's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
Hi Flame! No, those transfers include 1♦ are worse in precision, as I already explain. When you open natural, after 1♠ you bid 2nd time your distribution, as well as your range of hcp. In precision you bid 1st time your distribution as rebid and can miss any good contract, because rebids are at 2 level and not enough bidding space for safe investigation. Misho -
Any influence on your responese after rho's bidl?
mishovnbg replied to cnszsun's topic in Natural Bidding Discussion
I doubt that it will make much difference which you choose between an initial pass and 1♠ (and the same applies in uncontested!). The existence of partnership agreement on the minimum requirement is more important than the specifics of the agreement. Next time with that partner I would pass, because that is what he expects. This is only way of wining, totaly argee with you, monocled one. Try to play what your partner like in all possible in your opinion cases. Insist to your own methods only when partner's one is complete unacceptible for you. The best system you can play is which your partner know and like. Misho -
But my friend, what if 3♦ was alerted/described correctly by patrntership agreement, and this time, for the first time ever, your RHO got creative and used a preemptive raise as a psyche with full knowledge that his partner would play him for 10+. Yoiu going to argue that competitots should be protected from their opponents psyches? If you you need a new bidding style.. lol. Hi Ben! In case they can prove such their agreements by conv. card and 3♦ bid was explained by bidder as psyche, result will stay, if p of bluffer react his immediate turn normally - because his p is unlimited, he can't pass for example without penalty. In case of 3♦ was mistake, board will be adjusted too - forgetting own system can't be taken as acquital. Was pleasure for me to teach you friend :( Misho

How do you open and bid this (playing precision)
mishovnbg replied to Chamaco's topic in Interesting Bridge Hands
1. 1♠ any system. As Ron wrote to open 1 of minor with 6-5 you must be prepared to rebid it at 4 level. Example of hand from tourney: -,K10xxx,AKQxxxx,x - I opened it 1♦. 2. Pass - forcing. 4L are enough for that and void ♣ is nice for own game. 3. No double, no trouble, both A are not in same hand. If A♥ is off, then A♠ is off too, сhakespearian tragedy expected. So Ron's line seems best imho. Misho -
multiple connections
mishovnbg replied to doofik's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Hi Jola!♥ I don't know what type of internet connection you have, but with cable connection you can have as many IP as you like. Another way is to have several different type of connection: by network cable, by TV cable, by phone cable, by satellite... By phone is possible to have several numbers and several modems, one for each PC. As you can see IP adress is not guarantee for nothing. If people like to cheat, nothing can stop them, even in f2f bridge with screens... Misho -
Precision competitive big club auction
mishovnbg replied to Chamaco's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
Can someone explain this for me, best with an example, i think i just dont get it because of my bad english. Hi flame! I didn't think about me as "somebody", more likely as "nobody" :( Example with classic overcalls: 1♣{16+} - (p) - 1♦{0-7} - (1♠) ? Pass: 16-18 bal or trap pass without GF values dbl: take out, show distribution, doesn't show more hcp, include any GF hands 1NT: 20-23 bal (depend of 2NT opening) 2♣/♦/♥: 16-21, 5+ cards, NF 2♠ and 2NT: Michaels 3♣/♦/♥: 16-19, 6+ good suit, need 1 trick for game, NF 3♠: ask for stopper with solid suit 3NT: solid suit + stopper in ♠ Note: If somebody play NT raptor like me, than above 1NT will be raptor too, unlimited. Example after GF response. Because it depend of your bidding after opps intervention after 1♦/♥/♠/2♣, I will give you responses how we played them with Ben before utilization of "Equality" method of transfer advances in competition. We also agree on Garozzo 2/3 double in forcing situations like this. 1♣{16+} - (p) - 1♥{8+, 5+♥} - (2♦) ? pass: trap pass or short in opps suit, deny fit dbl: Garozzo 2/3 cards in opps suit double, deny fit 2♥: 3+fit. If you like can be TAB. 2♠: 5+♠ 2NT: 4 fit, not min, responses like J2NT 3♣: 5+♣ 3♦: ask for stopper with solid suit 3♥: 4 fit with min hand, deny side singleton/void 3♠/4♣: suit+fit playing with Ben, else is splinter 4♦: 4 fit, splinter, min hand Misho -
Precision 1c without negative response
mishovnbg replied to Flame's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
Hi Ron! Rumen-Kalin play Polish club, not precision, but with variable range of 1NT and 2♣ openings depend of vul. This allow natural rebids of 1♣ opening, unlike in precision. Hi falme! It is possible to play transfer responses incude 1♦ to polish club or nat opening, because you have natural rebids, wich determine type of opening. You can't do it with precision, because lack of possibility of such rebids. That is one of reasons why polish style of openings are best possible one for natural system. It is possible to make some compromises and play precision with wide range of natural 1♦ opening. In such case you can play precision with transfer responses, becuse 2♦ rebid is free for GF. Example: 1♣{16+}-1♠{deny 4+M}, ? 1NT: 16-19 bal or semi bal 2♣: 16-21, 5+♣ 2♦: GF, artifical 2♥/♠: 16-21, 5+♥/♠ 2NT: 16-21, 5+-5+ M or m Above scheme is possible for play, but far from perfect, unlike rebids of polish club after 1♠ response. Misho -
1. 3NT playing with Ben, else 4♠. I like partnership style of play. 2. Pass is good bridge bid if you need a swing. 3. As I many time wrote, often TD's mistake to judge like player, not like TD. In case of misinformation TD don't have rights to judge what can be happen, hе must only determine by several steps that I already wrote in forum, damage for innocent competitor. Board in example is clear for adjusting, becuse in case of right explanation of 3♦ bid, 4♠ can be bidded by innocent side. Important here is that TD no need to be even sure for anything, possibility of better result for innocent competitor is enough!!! Misho

I vote for 2♥ overcall. Yes, my suit is poor. Yes I have play in 3 suits. But no, I don't need play in ♣ or ♦, I need to not miss game with 3 cards support and good 7hcp in my p. Decision between overcall and take out dbl depend not only by shape but also of staistical possibility to make game. Hand in examle have enough power to make game even opposite preemptive raise and it don't have right rebid after negative response in ♣/♦. Misho

Precision competitive big club auction
mishovnbg replied to Chamaco's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
Hi Tiger! If you carefully follow what I now write, you will have less troubles after 1♣ precision and your system after 1♣ and opp intervention will not become above 150 pages like most of top players who play precision. Distributive meaning of rebids of 1♣ precision opener are same as not bidded yet, but with correction for stength. Some exceptions are possible of course, but neeed to keep them few. This mean if responder bid was negative, then 1♣ rebids = overcalls; if responder's bid was gf, then rebids = responses to same opening. Misho -
Constructive unbal hands after Prec. 1D-(X)-?
mishovnbg replied to Chamaco's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
Hi Tiger! After double best way is to play by transfers similar to majors. Example: 1♦ - (dbl) - ? rdbl: 4+♥ 1♥: 4+♠ 1♠: 5+♣ or bal unsuitable for 1NT/3NT 1NT: to play above: you can use it as you like Continue after transfer bids like after 1/1 rf bids, with addition you can safely stop at 1 level by accepting of transfer with 3 cards and weak hand. rdbl as 10+hcp can lead to terrible contracts, if rdb-ler is short in ♦. Succesful double at 1 level is so rare happen, that is better to use rdbl as transfer too. Note: You can read more about transfers and our (me+Ben) method called "Equality". Misho -
Any thoughts about this system?
mishovnbg replied to Polish Goalie's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
Hi Goalie, welcome to BBO forum! Instead of repeat posts, where I agree with almost all written, will be probably interesting for you to know that similar to your idea play top italian pair of the world Fantoni-Nunes. They use all 1 level bids as 14+ natural opening, 2 level for 10-13 unbalanced openings and weak 1NT. Probably other posters didn't understand that you open 11-15 unbalanced hands not only with both majors, but with any hand which include major, probably with 2♥/♠. This leave 1♣ opening for bal and minor hands and is not that bad as looks like. Misho -
Hi Ben! As I already told you, while you are count Zar points and probably didn't notice I use Romex way of losers-cover cards conception, but with some corrections. I just afraid to distract you form about 100 posts for Zar,bum-bam,bip-map and so on points. Actually about general correction of counting losers I read 30 years ago written by Jeff Rubens: 2A more than Q = 1/2 losers less and v.v. I use also same correction for cover cards. Card combinations like TJ10 or AKJ are also 1/2 losers less, but counting by range of Q. For hands in example: 1. 61/2L, because 3Q and only 1 A. By the way if your partner ever bid, what you suppose he to have, next 3 queens may be? 2. ♠AJTxxx ♦AKJx ♦xx ♣x This hand is more complicate. You have 6L but 2 card combinations for 1 loser less totall. They are count as Q, but you have 2A to cover them, so no more corrections. Final count = 5L. By the way same counting is very aggressive, because if you p have ♠KQ and ♥Q you are in trouble because of counting both by him and by you same values - one of forms of duplication, nicely described by Mike Lawrence. As you can see I also use Romex method with reasonable corrections, because it is practical, most fast for count include my corrections at table, very aggressive like Zar and enough precise for counting hypothetical tricks. Percentage tricks you can count only when you see dummy. Real tricks can be count only when you finish board B). It is simple vaste of time to use very accurate count of unknown objects, but anybody is free to use his own method of guessing :D Misho

Hi Ben! The way I explain 2NT is which I remeber by your explanations and really like it except 3♣ in case of precision opening. My way is different as you know (or suppose to know as one of furst tortured by NTC reader  ). My way is: 1♥-2NT, ? 3♣: min, deny slam interest, but can still accept game. 3♦ continue ask. 3♦: max, 6+♥ 3♥: max, S/V ♠ 3♠: max, S/V ♣ 3NT: max, deny S/V 4♣: max, S/V ♦ 4♦: max, 7♥=2=2=2 1♥-2NT, 3♣-3♦, ? 3♥: S/V ♠ 3♠: S/V ♣ 3NT: deny S/V 4♣: S/V ♦ 4♦: 6♥, deny S/V 4HE: 7♥=2=2=2 Next relay after shown distribution is spiral scan asking (NAB). Other bids except game are cue bids, 4NT is turbo convention Usage of 2 methods(sometimes 3 include RKCB) of slam investigation allow to use appropriate one, depending of needs, which is most important imho As you can see I am also willing to play what my p like friend B) Misho

Zar points translation into native LTC for lazy players, Misho's edition: 3♣: 7+L 3♦: 6L short suit ask/try 5-L 3NT: 6L, max hcp Аpproximately time and mind resourses used for Zar >= 10 times than LTC. Аpproximately accuracy and number of swings for Zar >= 1.00132 times than LTC Of course is possible to invent even more complicate way to count hypothetical tricks during the bidding, like bim-bam 3.14 and 2.71 points and improve it by tools of higher mathematics... I am especially fan of n-dimension mould incude such characteristics like time for opps to count his hand, before to look arround... B) Misho

Any influence on your responese after rho's bidl?
mishovnbg replied to cnszsun's topic in Natural Bidding Discussion
Hi Michael! The reason why 1♠ bid is good in both cases is because miracle for game is more important than best score. If you find fit ♠ you will have 2 more tricks in ♠ (4th and 5th) and your strength is even above min! Misho -
Hi nice Gwen ♥♥♥! I will not bother you any more, if you like to know my opinion, please leave me PM in forum, as well as where I must answer! But be ready to receive needed imo amount of bitter medicine laugh - you will remeber it a lot of time, my favourite trick as professional teacher B) . [snipped - uday] Good director is servant of players and his primary goal is to ensure their pleasure. The boss is manager of tourney, in BBO Fred and Uday. Best director is also lawyer, prosecutor, judge, diplomat, psychoanalyst and even medic in f2f tournaments. Hi Ben! I like scheme as I describe it... 1. 3♣ must not include slam hands, this is nonsense, because in such case you will receive normally 4 of major (can be just shoot) and will continue for slam in dark area of 5 level without any info about distribution or controls. 2. Strong/very strong/hyper strong slam interest is not interesting as information actually. Much more important is to show side singleton/void with average hand, in which case without duplication slam is possible without much hcp. With lot of hcp you can bid it by any system/way. 3. Because 3♦ establish GF bid of 3 in major fit can't have natural meaning except slam interest(limit raise with shortness is usefull only for opps defense, with such hand you must simple to bid game)), in which case is of course it is interesting to learn more about p hand. So cheapest bid is better ask than other major, allow to receive all bids same way, like direct responses to 2NT(for singleton, not natural), 3NT as natural bid, showing hcp without singleton or 6 cards in major, because 1 additional step. Misho
