  1. Hi friends, can you add your comments about ACOL in post for intermediate/begiiner players "Misho's offer 4"? Misho
  2. Completely agree with The_Hog_of_BBO_Forum B). Misho
  3. I play over any opps NT bid ( opening mini/weak/strong, response 1NT, fit jump 2NT... ) same structure. If some of suits are already shown by opps, then bid in this suit show wild 2 suiter and other bids cant include it. DBL: overcall in minor or both majors 2CL: DONT 2DI: DONT 2HE/SP: nat, 5+ 2NT: both minors Misho
  4. I invite you to play sometimes with me Free, feel similar soul, hehe. Hope you will understand my bluffs too ;D. Misho
  5. Hi Luis! If you all time make right decisions, soon you will stop play Bridge - will be bored to death! Was so easy for us, far from battle and real bridge to invent bids... I know, know... Partner, team expect more... :'( Next time will be better, i am sure! Misho
  6. My method of competitive bidding include normally reconstruction of the board before to take a decision. I call it "guessing over coffee sediment", hehe. Luis may be remeber about our little guessing/science debate 8). Distribution: DI: LHO - 8 ( with 9 - 5, with 7 - 3 ), me - 0, RHO- 2 or less ( with 3 can raise ), p - 3+ HE: P - 6 ( 5 is not enough for 4 level), me - 2, LHO - 1 ( in our fit I expect shortness ), RHO - 4 SP: P - 3- ( didnt bid take out ), me - 5, LHO- 2-, RHO - 3+ CL: remain HCP: DI: LHO KJ109xxxx ( with better suit - 3DI), p - Axx ( K is not valuable for him), RHO - Qx, me - void HE: LHO - x (short), p - AJ109xx, RHO - Kxxx ( didnt raise, long), me - Qx CL: LHO - xx, p - A ( overcall), RHO - KJxx ( didnt dbl), me - Q109xxx SP ( remain): LHO - xx, p - KQx, RHO - xxx, me - AJ10xx Expected deal: KQx AJ109xx Axx A xx xxx x Kxxx KJ109xxxx Qx xx KJxx AJ10xx Qx - Q109xxx Bidding ( for clarification to p ;D ): 4DI - 4HE - p - 4SP (1) p - 5CL(2) - p(dbl) - 6DI(3) p(dbl) - final decision ( 6SP with expected hand ) 1. Cue bid or nat, forcing 2. Odd KC, cue CL 3. Grand slam try with void DI, pickup slam ( didnt bid it directly ) Misho
  7. I did some statistical research about systems: http://forums.bridgebase.com/in...ay;threadid=521 Misho
  8. Hi Richard :). If you dont have any problems this doesnt really mean they dont exist. May be is difficult to catch them? We must count not only cases we didnt made mistake, but also these where we missed chance to: - made preempt - if we play intermediate jumps with 2 or 1 suiters, you cant do it - made preempt raises - if you play with 4 cards as normal overcalls/openings, you lose preempt raises with 3 cards. Bad news is also you differ from field. If you play such overcalls as exception ( I also play it ), then you only establish the rule 8). - find 6-2 major contract. If you play with 4 cards as normal overcalls/openings, you need 2 times to rebid it, with 5 - 1 time. It is no chance leading italian pairs give up to play it as opening after so many years and so many systems. By the way Bocchi-Duboin play 4 major overcalls over 1 minor, but also solve problem by conventions: 1NT comic with weak 6 major and constructive 2DI multi with 6 major. This is an example for MOSCITO fans - they must manage long major suits by special way. Example of my 4 card major overcall in BBO tournament: http://forums.bridgebase.com/in...msg4442#msg4442 Misho
  9. The problem with the 4 card major overcall or opening is you must sacrifice direct the 5 card major bids and suitable preempt raises and forget about the 6 card majors ;D Misho

  11. Hi Free, hope to have you sometimes as my partner if you are most of time so lucky :). You didnt mention was it at IMP or MP tournament. If you played pairs with such luck and skills you can simple bid 6HE and just make 13 tricks - will be same result or near same and you will not risk to receive zero with not so lucky distribution :). Misho
  12. Hi MOSCITO fans :). Thanks Luis for understanding ::). If you start teaching Ben to your blue legal and simplified version of MOSCITO, may be other post, count me as student too, i still like to learn different ideas than my own :). Hey MOSCITO experts, may be better to read BEZ NAZWY/SYSTEMROZKLADOWY/LAMBDA/DELTA/REGRES/SUSPENSOR before to invent wheel again ;D? Misho
  13. Hi all beginner/intermediate players :). When you play some system ( competitive bidding, dbls in this case are also system ) you must answer for some common questions. 1. How often my most common bids ( dbls+cheapest bids in any suit ) happen? Is clear that "classic" take out dbl with shortness in opps suit are much more rare than balanced or semi balanced hands for optional dbl. 2. Is type of my bids adequate to shape I shown? For example will you open pre-empt with 4 cards at 4 level? No? I did it and even win the top, but it was not Bridge in my opinion, perhaps roulette :). Showing general type of your hand is more important than any other it characteristics, if you like to include your partner in battle and play with him partnership Bridge. Take out dbl cant give him this chance, because it can be made with or without wild distribution, optional dbl - can! 3. Penalty dbl to opps cases: 3.1. Penalty pass - both ways use trap pass here. 3.2. Take out dbl and penalty pass from responder. Optional dbl lose it, but it is rare option and worse position - before declarer. 3.3. Cooperative penalty - optional dbl catch it, unlike take out dbl and this is much more often and better case than 3.2. 4. Why most of players use take out dbl? Several reasons here: 4.1. Easy to play - no need to make decisions between penalty of opps and own contract. But also dont give any chance to reach it ;D. 4.2. Defense is rare one of the strongest skill of players. May be better to improve it? 4.3. Following the primitive way of LTTC is easiest way to bid, but lottery too. Complex LTTC is better, but only very few of players use it at table - be fair Ben 8). 5. Are you lose useful bid for take out dbl? Yes, of course, there is no such thing like free supper ;D. Right question is: what you lose/win using take out dbl vs. optional dbl? Answers are: 5.1. When you use take out dbl you lose way to penalty crazy pre-empts/raises based on LTTC and win one important side bid in auction. By the way I also use in BBO same unusual bids, because know most of opps play with take out dbl ;D. 5.2. When you use optional dbl you lose one of side important bids and win way to penalty same crazy bids like unusual pre-empts, raises, bluffs... Welcome to ask me ( private or in forum ) friends, I suppose you are not familiar with same way of bidding. Misho
  14. Hi Ben, i will describe the Optional dbl (OD), as i play it with all my regular partners. OD meaning is: partner i have hcp to play at reached level of bidding, but havent any other better bid. OD DONT PROMISSE 4+ cards in unbid major. I use other bids for take out and support dbls, similar to old Fishbein. Reason is unlike fanatics of LTTC i prefer to can to dbl opps sometimes, if we have more hcp than they and we havent other contract, crazy pre-empts are welcome :o. Typical crash of take out dbl from real MP tournament. My p was experienced tournament player, but not my regular partner and we played with take out dbl. We - vul, opps - not, i open Me Partner Kxx Axx AQxx Kx xxx xxx Axx KQJxx Bids: 1CL-(3DI)-dbl-pass, 3HE-pass-5CL-pass, pass-pass Result: -1, we miss game and it was 3DI with dbl, lol Examples: 1DI-(1SP)-dbl: xxx-Axx-Kxx-Qxxx 1CL-p-1SP-(2HE)-dbl: x-Qxx-AKxxx-AQxx Misho
  15. Hi MOSCITO fans, not swatted yet :o! I follow the discussion with interest, despite I dont like the idea of MOSCITO system. But will be interesting for me the discussion to be continued with important bids except openings and relays - answers, rebids... the difficult matter about competitive bidding and the overcall structure similar to MOSCITO... Relays after overcalls? Transfer answers to overcalls and take out dbl? My suggestions to continue with success for new fans of MOSCITO ( for theoretical discussion may be better to create new post ) : 1. Openings: 1D = both Ms 1H = unbal with H 1S = unbal with S 1NT = bal 11-14 2C = 6C or 5+C & 4D 2D = 6D or 5+D & 4C Note: 1NT both majors 9-14 hcp is NOT WBF blue legal ( cant play it at any tournament ). 2. The responses to 1CL - like opening. The same continuations for simplification. With both majors need solution. Note: I prefer the inverted and transferred responses, but please everybody to not forget the main purpose of this post! 3. Agree to most common and really symmetric structure with HiMiLo answers to relays. Note: Perfect is enemy of good 8). 4. 4DI end signal, successfully used since it was invented by poles. Note: I prefer to play without 4DI too, but please again everybody to not forget the main purpose of this post! 5. Sorry I dont know what style of slam convention is most common now, cant understand from your posts. But please choose 1 way for BBO MOSCITO STANDARD. AKQ slam points, CAB, denial cue bids scan, RKCB ... - what, when, why - quickly please!!! Note: I prefer CAB + denial cue bids/RKCB like Luis, but it is not important - way you choose must be just most popular, not best!!! Sorry I interfere in your discussion friends, but will be really nice in my opinion, if you succeed to agree to BBO MOSCITO STANDART. Misho
  16. When you must choose between overcall and dbl: 1. Have you normal rebid after dbl? If you havent as in your examples better to overcall. 2. Think partners distribution is balanced, untill opps or partners bids discover something unusual. In same case is also better to overcall, how in your examples. 3. Do you like to play contract or prefer to be dummy? ( I dont mean your skills here ::) ). If you like p to play - dbl. In your examples is better to overcall. 4. What responses after opps pass you expect from your p? If he can pass with xxxx support and side singleton ( like Luis :P ), better to bid dbl with strong hands. Misho
  17. Yes, i regular use deceptive play, it is part of my style. In my opinion bluff is normal play, like any other and is not unfair to use it. Ofcourse sometimes i go for my phone number B). But how in poker, you mostly win not from bluffs, rather from opponents thinking about you MAY bluff ;D. Anybody can play way he prefer and lose/win by this way. I can only quote Hog ( Victor Mollo book hero ): "Everybody care for losers ( my - little old ladies ). Why nobody care for winers? Do you think winers like executions?". Misho
  18. Ron, you are not exactly right friend. Pass is option, if you want to lose/drive away partner ;D. Misho
  19. Hi friends from all world B) Even eating people can be ethic for some group/community/population. Our ethic depend of our curent laws - wrote or not. Without laws/regulations will be chaos - opposite side of evolution. American laws are good for americans, else they will change them. European laws are good for europeans, else they will change them... Who am i to judge? But i all life try to understand reasons of different opinion than my own. If all people try to understand each other instead of beating and war will be much better world :B). Bridge is only game, but is clear war game. How in any war better weapons and better training normally win. Laws of war are as any other laws. Restricting some type of weapon ( say atomic strong pass ) depend of current laws. You may not like them, but you must follow them, if you like fair duel. Ofcorse nobody ask winers, but if you did someting not right, you remember that - cant run from your own memories. How can you know that you are better, if you used some kind of cheating? And instead of pleasure bridge become hard work, be sure i know something about ;D. Is unusual system form of cheating? I think - not. It is form of weapon of bridge war. To use this system/weapon pair must do much hard work that normal players didnt. I dont think it is unethical or unfair - it is result ot their effort. What about opponents? By the general law of duplicate bridge they MUST have same information, also about possibilities thats all. They also can use unusual methods of defence for example. If they dont want to do their "home work" as said Luis, his right is to lose or win by this way. About defensive database... I think it is local USA bridge law, but not bad, if no corruption and personal interest. In right shape it can help to progress too with defence inventions. By the way, at Varna ( town in Bulgaria where i live ) tournaments for pleasure - Albena and Goden Sands ( seaside resorts ) - all systems are allowed, welcome :). Misho
  20. I completely agree with Luis. Same reason is to play unusual system like MOSCITO, Besnazwy... or own system. Opponents cant remeber all agreement against "unusual" bids and must play some kind of "meta defence", far less effective than against natural system. Ofcourse to play such system you must do hard work with partner... and remain partners with him for long time ;D Misho
  21. Hi Peter. I use after overcalls at 1 level same responses as after opening, may be little stronger. 1. xxx-xx-xxxx-xxxx Pass 2. xxxx-x-xxxx-xxxx 2S, pre-empt 3. Kxx-xx-xxxx-xxxx 2S, pre-empt 4. Kxxx-x-xxxx-xxxx 3S, pre-empt Note: Kxxx-x-xxxx-Axxx - 4S, pre-empt 5. Kxx-Qxxx-xx-AJxx 2HE, good raise to 2 to inv max 6. Kxx-Qxxx-xx-AQxx 2HE, good raise to 2 to inv max 7. KJx-Qxxx-xx-AQxx 2HE, good raise to 2 to inv max 8. KJx-KQxx-xx-AQxx Note: KJxx-KQxx-x-AQxx - 4DI, Splinter 2NT, GF fit raise, relay, deny splinter 10. KJx-AKxxx-Ax-AKx 2NT, GF fit raise, relay, deny splinter Misho
  22. I agreee ofcourse with Rado/The_Hog posts. In addition i like idea of 2 way transfers because who can said not open not vul say QJ10xxxx and with AQJxxx too? So if you can play 2SP as constuctive pre-empt like PPilot&Rado, here is very nice place to play over 2NT relay answers by transfers. If opp are silent first 2 rounds, i suppouse they will be silent too in the continuation of bidding. Shortly, transfers are VERY GOOD as answer to relay. Example: 2SP ( any constuctive pre-empt ) - 2NT ( relay for suit ) 3CL: DI 3DI: HE 3HE: SP 3SP: CL 3NT: AKQxxxx, any suit, no side values Note: Direct opening 3NT can show now ACOL 3NT. Misho
  23. I use raise of 1 major response regular with 3 cards, it is part of my system too. Here in BBO i use it even if have no agreement about, still without bad results B). But if you like same style of bidding and play it with parner, you need convention to discover type of raise with game invitational/forcing hands. Kantar's solution is 3 in minor to be NF game try with 4 cards response. 2NT show 5 card response and is forcing, inv+. Misho
  24. 1SP: 0-7hcp, 3+SP By theory of responses to take out dbl with 0-3hcp you must tend to keep level low, if possible. With 4-7hcp can show your best suit. Why? Because with so few hcp you expect parner to have a lot of them and must leave bidding space for his rebids. With 2DI response he lose his 1NT and 2CL rebid and will be very difficulte for him to decide what to bid with near to game strength. At last, if he raise you to 4SP, even with 4 cards, it will be probably best game, because you can ruff CL form short side trump and dont forget - opponents dont know you have only 3 SP B). Misho
  25. 2/1 Advantages - like any natural system - flexible and easy to play ( at least at surface ;D ) Disadvantages: - many contracts from probably wrong ( weak ) hand after 1/1, weak jump shift and 1 minor-2NT responses. - "pre-empt" partner with strong hand by 2CL and 2NT openings - "eating" so many levels of bidding with strong hands is not without cost. Result is regular guessing, only good thing is they come very rare, but on other side is waste usage of nice 2CL and 2NT bids 8). - 1NT round forcing result in 1 level higher contracts and lose of statisticaly better 1NT contract without fit in major and min bal opener. - 2/1 GF + Bergen raises after 1SP opening leave to any invitational hands ( for example with good 5-6 minor and weak side doubleton ) only rebid of 2NT without fit - in second suit - just bad bidding, games is much more often than slams. - Rebids of 1 major opening after 2/1 are so unlimited that guessing is just unavoidable. - Jump reverses with 5-4 and 3th range of hcp ( or 6-3, lol ) to 3 level dont leave enough space to investigate better game or slam. .... Shortly, like any other natural system 12-21 hcp range ::D. Misho
