  1. Hendrix Junior Wells Most recently - Dan Reeder
  2. A few weeks ago he did a session on BBO as a raffled prize for those who bought his software. There as a Q&A after and someone asked him if he preferred Bergen or Rev. He said he prefers the original. Course he also said he doesn't play bridge any more...
  3. Gah! How is it that no one has said Deadwood?! Deadwood! And Rome And Project Runway Survivor Weeds And yes Soap was awesome. I like My Name is Earl, but rarely watch it. I can't believe they cancelled Kitchen Confidential.
  4. I love too many books to pick. However, I think it's important to point out that Terry Pratchett plays bridge. I didn't catch that the first time I read The Light Fantastic. This thread seemed as good a place as any to mention it. By the way for those of you who have a developed sense of humor and like Pratchett try Christopher Moore.
  5. In the Bedroom - (based on a Dubus story. If the world makes sense when the literary world looks at short story writers of the twentieth century they'll look at Andre Dubus.) Great acting. Great direction. Tragic. Widow of St. Pierre - Not only well done and thought provoking, it's visually compelling The Pianist - I really liked that Polansky didn't take the easy route and go for tears, but manages to keep the audience removed enough to respond intellectually not just emotionally. Oh, and Adrien Brody = hot. It's a Wonderful Life - It's still good after seeing it a million times. A Boy and His Dog - It's a little bit wicked.
  6. Happy B-day. Don't think of this as a day late. Think of it as prolonging the occassion. Hope your birthday wishes come true.
  7. The confusing thing is what I see at the table, or at least, what I -think- I see, which is this: Most people will bypass 1d. But when responder does bid 1d most openers do not bypass a 4cm with a balanced hand. This is what I think it is the norm. Is it? And what on earth is it called?
  8. Thats a sequence where Walsh players have accidents with, if they haven't discussed it Some play it as 4 card raise, and therefore a strong hand. Others (like myself) prefer to use this bid to show 8-10 HCP, strong 3 card support, and the inability to bid NT. Probably a hand like xxx Axx KQxxx xx. Its otherwise an unbiddable hand. How do you work out the huge difference in what that bid could mean? How do you handle this with a pick up partner? Do you really stop to discuss, or do you hold your breath, bid and hope you're on the same page?
  9. You're opener. You say 1c, partner replies 1d and you say ? With [hv=s=sakt9haq9d87ct643]133|100|[/hv] OR[hv=s=sakt9haq9d87ct643]133|100|[/hv]
  10. The best thing about MasterPoints is the fun of explaining what you've won to non-bridge players. I think I can get more people to try bridge with a well crafted explanation. The only question is how many mp's do you need to get the car?
  11. Thank you all for the responses. Some great minds weighing in. I guess I should keep reading.
  12. Kantar says If the opps shied away from NT (they hunted around for a suit, settled in a minor) you should lead the unbid suit. Even if you have the AQ. I'm sure he's right, but I'm only sure he's right because he's Edwin Kantar. So... if you have to lead from AQ what do you lead? What do you lead from AQ or AQx or AQT or AQXX or AQTx What do I say if p asks why I lead away from AQ?
  13. no :P tell me what you like and i'll send you one... You are a doll. The thing is I can't ask you to make all my cc's for me. I guess I'm going to have to learn to do this.
  14. I'm afraid I'll need some extra iq points before trying to deal with FD again. I couldn't even get through the one level. But I'm allowed to use the old fashioned one, right?
  15. My fear with indies is that I'm going to tube a great player's chances of winning. When you play in Indies does it aggrevate you to be paired with a weaker partner, or is it something that's expected?
  16. Gambling 3nt? Or unusual nt? But I couldn't say they're the most useful conventions. They don't come up with the frewquency of say stayman or negative doubles.
  17. I like that when you play in a tourney there aren't lots of distracting messages. Also, I think people want to be helpful and may not mean to cheat, but end up disclosing more than they should. I once had a friend I spoke to on messenger. Sometimes I'd play in tourneys and he would watch. Great until he started to me when to claim. That was crazy making, but easily solved by turning off the instant messenger. I guess my point is that I like that you can't chat to people in tourneys and people can't talk to you. My suggestion would be that messages sent to those in tourneys just automatically become mail. And maybe appear to the sender in a different color or echo back a "your mail has been sent" message so people don't think they're being ignored.
  18. In the US we hope to eventually have everyone speaking English from the fourth grade on, eventually.
  19. Kantar instructs that when you hold a sequence in opps trump suit the correct way to follow is play your highest first and lowest second. Is this still the norm? Why is it the best way to play?
  20. Susan Doty is an amazing teacher. Not only because of her deep pool of knowledge, but because she makes you feel smart even when you're not perfect.
