Can someone explain what the 'be right back' button on your account does, and is it pertinent to this situation?

Or just setting permission required.

Its not the speed that is the issue, that's the point I'm making. Its almost as if the ISP is collecting a bundle of handshake messages and sending them as a single packet - it reduces the overheads and improves bandwidth efficiency. Great for the ISP, bad for a time critical transmission - BBO should really be using the VoIP protocols to avoid that happening. The mobile network however doesn't bother to collect a bundle as it doesn't know which base station your next packet will be routed through - so it just gets on with sending it. Whilst using my fibre landline my BCR was gradually dropping to 95% courtesy of BBO disconnecting me. Using my mobile 3G I've got it back upto 100%. Go figure. P.S. My mobile gives 2.28/1.57 and my landline gives 11.1/2.28 - speed is irrelevant, it's the ISP's prioritising and packaging algorithms that are the hurdle.

About 5M. I use my EE 3G for BBO as it is the only way to avoid disconnection. A 2 hr session runs to about 10M, and as I have a 125M PAYG monthly allowance for my minimum payment its not a problem. I can use the landline WiFi for most internet access, so I can put the full 125 to BBO if necessary.

Get yourself a new login ID and don't tell anyone what it is. P.S. - this has the added benefit that you can login and play with one ID, and use another device with the other ID to login and kibitz the same game - it will greatly improve your interpretation of your partner's bids.

Its not BBO, its your ISP slugging the background handshakes between the client and host. They only way to fix it is to get a better ISP. I find my mobile 3G is fine, my 15M fibre landline is useless (Oh, and I spent 30 years in the computer and communications industry).

Well that's hardly realistic. Who's going to give you an earful when you misplay it? You still need the robot in dummy.

Its probably Carol5 . . . can you find her in the member list?

I would restart the app or browser - whatever you are using.

I don't use it myself - but the programmer in me promptly asks 'does it reset when the opposition changes?'

Its not the WiFi, I get the same reaction when using a wired connection. The problem is a background handshake between the client (your platform) and the server (them). The ISPs are slugging it, and the server decides you've gone away. It depends on your ISP. I find using the 3G connection of a tablet resolves the issues, and my disconnection performance figure has finally started to climb back up.

Another frustrating day of connection problems
gbb483 replied to 1eyedjack's topic in BBO Support Forum
Lots of threads here regarding connection problems - essentially its the ISPs getting overloaded and slugging a background handshale between the client (you) and the server (them). I have fibre and I still have problems. The 3G network seems better than the landline network. -
Well its not the WiFi - if I have a wired connection to the landline router I still have problems - so its related to my ISP.

Another thread mentioned that new photos need to be vetted before being implemented. I guess all they've done is reenabled photos previously cleared, but aren't yet in a position to vet the potential flood of photos if they reenable fresh uploads.

Because there are 2 servers, one for casual and one for the rest. Those on one can't see those on the other. And if you try and use the old Flash version you will have real problems.

Interesting - this topic has had > 3000 views and only 23 replies, so less than 1 in 100 viewers percieve this as a problem.

I think that by the time I've worked out where declarer is in relation to me, the cards have finished their dance anyway. I fail to see the problem.

This topic was raised in the last week. Have a look through the previous topics for details. https://www.bridgebase.com/forums/topic/83182-other-convention-card-profile/

Precisely, which appears to be a problem a lot of users are having. So your client / server need to be able to differentiate between a slow player and a flaky ISP link, and recover cleanly when the ISP is being overloaded. P.S. This will affect the fee paying members just as much as the Casual ones - so if BBO is having trouble with losing players in their tournaments, they know where to start looking for a solution.
-
OK, even a direct connection to my router resulted in me being removed (whilst kibitzing). So I think the problem is the ISPs. My landline is BT, but my 3G iPad is EE. I guess its EE from now on. I will look at using the EE as a hot spot for a laptop - and hope the Windows 10 OS doesn't swap it.
-
Once you've navigated the 'Play' screen to where you need to be, could you switch to the 'history' tab and spend some time reviewing previous hands? It would keep you active on BBO and might save you getting logged of and should get you dragged into the tournament when it starts - maybe. Having never played in a tournament other than friendly Teams I might be wrong.

I stand by what I posted yesterday.
-
Given we were a social group, and they would then need to get me back, the probability of that is zero.

I think the problem is related to a background 'handshake' between the client (your device) and the server. This is a very frequent signal - and when it gets delayed the BBO server decides you've absconded and drops your connection. I find that my WiFi / landline connection is susceptible to problems, but my 3G mobile connection works fine. I'm going to try a direct wired connection to my router to see if that helps. Playing around with options and description tags has no effect.

The other problem is that BBO has a few bugs, one of which is that it thinks you've gone away when you haven't. I was once replaced by a robot whilst I was dummy! I believe there is continual 'handshaking' going on behind the scenes between your device and the BBO server, and when that fails (which could be just a few seconds) the server decides you've absconded. I have yet to determine exactly where the hiccup is occuring, but if I use my WiFi and the landline connection I have problems; if I use my mobile 3G connection (on a SIM enabled tablet) I don't have problems. P.S. If you really do take a long while to bid, the system will flash up a warning messgae (so I've been told), before removing you. If you aren't seeing those messages, then it is probably the client/server handshaking (i.e. lack thereof) which is biting you.
