  1. Hello, They can write to accounting@bridgebase.com and we can help them out. Regards, Karen Accounting manager
  2. You can write to accounting@bridgebase.com for a refund. Best, of course, is to simply pay attention to the computer screen when registering for a tournament. If the screen says it is an individual game, and you want to play in a pairs game, do not complete the registration.

    RIP

Very sad news indeed for the world of music.
  4. My husband was at a gun store in the late 1970's and was listening to a couple of men there who were talking about the coming 'revolution' and going on and on. Finally he chimed in and said there will never be a revolution in the US. They got huffy and wanted to know what he was based his statement on. He told them, "As long as there is Monday Night Football, and beer, there will be no revolution." They thought about it a second and said, "Damn, you're right." Then they started another topic entirely. :)

    fees

Bridge Base Online is a free site, which means there are no membership fees and you can play as much as you want in our clubs and some tournaments. This is not to say we don't have some extremely cool premium pay features like ACBL tournaments and robots, to provide just two examples. For those features you need a BB$ account. Purchasing BB$ is easy to do. All BB$ is purchased using US$, and your credit card company takes care of any currency conversions for you if one is necessary, so that part is seamless for you. $20 US$ buys $20 BB$, which is kept in your username's BB$ account until such time as you choose to do something with it. BB$ are prepaid tournament entry fees and robot subscription rental fees. The cost of renting the robots is $1 BB$ for a week for the basic robots, unlimited time playing with the robots during the week, and an unlimited number of boards. You can set up the table to play with 1, 2 or 3 robots, that choice is strictly up to you. The cost for the advanced (tournament) robots is $1 BB$ for 24 hours, and the same thing applies - unlimited playing time during the 24 hours and as many boards as you want, 1 2 or 3 robots. Tournament entry fees vary, from $0.25 for the very fast robot tournaments, to $5.00 for the Best Hand robot tournaments; most of the pay tournament organizations charge $1 BB$ for their tournaments. The cost for each tournament is posted on the tournament description. Here is an online help file which describes the BB$ account, and another one which describes the BBO masterpoints levels: http://www.bridgebase.com/help/v2help/bb$.html http://www.bridgebase.com/help/v2help/masterpoints_bandp.html If you have any other questions or need additional assistance, please don't hesitate to let us know. 6. Really need to read the http://xkcd.com/ comic today :)
  7. This one completely blows my mind. http://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/science/2015/05/wyoming_law_against_data_collection_protecting_ranchers_by_ignoring_the.html In a nutshell, the Wyoming government has just criminalized collecting evidence of environmental harm and showing it to the government. This takes ignorance is bliss to a whole new level. Wow. Breathtaking.
  8. Put an 'x' (just one lonely x) in the credit card space, and type '111' in the CVV security code space. Click "Purchase" and no purchase will take place but your information will be saved.
  9. The next time you make a BB$ purchase, click the BB$ Account link on the left side of your screen when you log in, then log into the payment page with your username and password. Click the link to update saved settings, and that takes you to the payment page form so you can change to current information. Are you also checking the box for "remember CC#"? That saves the personal information you're talking about on our servers so the next time you log in with your username and password, that information will be filled in for you. It does also save your credit card number on the credit card processor servers, so you can use 1-click purchasing thereafter, should you wish to do so. If you have any other questions or need further assistance, please don't hesitate to let us know. Karen aka macaw & accounting
  10. Pepper flash is the plugin that works with the Chromium browser. You need a different flash plugin to work with Firefox. You might want to rename your .mozilla folder and do a fresh installation of Firefox. If something got messed up with Firefox, that's by far the easiest way to fix the problem. Then it should work with the flash plugin.
  11. "Wavelength" an obscure science fiction movie which isn't out on DVD unfortunately. We have it on VHS but no player :) - curious if anybody else has ever seen that one. "Countryman" is now out on DVD, and it's entertaining. Not great acting, or cinematography, but a good almost science fiction story.
  12. For some areas at the moment, only a credit card is available as a payment source. It appears you are in one of those areas. When Paypal becomes available you will see it on the right hand side of your screen when you access our payment page. Karen accounting@bridgebase.com
  13. A refund was posted to your BB$ account. Regards, Karen aka Accounting
  14. abuse@bridgebase.com is the email address to report abuse. support@bridgebase.com is the email address for other issues, though if you send an abuse issue there, it gets to the same department easily enough
  15. BBO does not keep a list like that. The forum here is a great place to reach out to teachers and prospective partners who are active on the forums. Let them know what it is you are looking for in a teacher and/or partner.
  16. What about "Soap" from the 1970's? Love that one.
  17. Occasionally the gift card is not activted properly at the store. This seems to be the main reason why a problem occurs when using a gift card. It requires the store clerk fixing whatever it was they didn't do to activate the card. The other main problem is just a typographic error on typing the card number or CVV. Double=check the drop down menu for the expiration date matches the front of the card, the card type matches (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, Amex), and that the CVV (security code) are typed correctly. What I like to do so make sure I haven't made a transposition of numbers is to read what I typed out loud to myself from the computer screen, and compare it to my card. I catch transposed numbers that way :) Karen aka macaw aka Accounting
  18. We received a sad email from family members of our yellow host "Chipmonk." Chris Curtis = 7/13/1948-----10/30/2011 Hello everyone, I am Chris' brother in law (Dewayne) and I am sending this email to everyone in Chris' contact list so if you receive it more than once or if you did not have any relationship with Chris, then just delete this email with my apology. Most of you who knew Chris are aware that he has had many health problems for a number of years and that for the last year and a half he has been on a very slippery slope health wise. One of his biggest disapointments was that after he had the stroke we was unable to play bridge and then eventually he was unable to keep in touch with his friends via computer. When he was of sound mind, he treasured his bridge relationships and I wanted you all to know that. Now he has gone to that big bridge game in the sky. May he rest in peace! Not all of you who receive this email are bridge players, but your friendship meant a lot to Chris also. God Bless each and every one of you. Dewayne Chris was a wonderfully kind, nice man, who loved being a yellow host and helping people on Bridge Base. He will be missed.
  19. We should probably include a disclaimer that this is brand new, hot off the press, so hot it's sizzling, and if people don't already know how to use their iPad, and are expecting it to be exactly like a computer, they should stick to the computer. It's very cool, though. It works! I wrote a 'how to' BBO on iPad This only works with the new web version of Bridge Base, not the downloaded Windows version. After you purchase your iPad, go to the App Store, and look for the App named "iSwifter." Install it on your iPad and start it. There are two options: Play Games or Browse Webpages. Select Browse Webpage by tapping on that link. To type in the Bridge Base webpage address, tap in the blank. This will bring up the keyboard for typing. This program doesn't keep bookmarks, that I could find, so you will need to type in: www.bridgebase and then you can tap the '.com' button to complete the web address (or type it). Then tap on the "Go" button You'll see the main iSwifter page with a wheel spinning, just wait until it connects. Now you'll see the main Bridge Base page with the link: Play Bridge Now Tap the link "Play Bridge Now" The keyboard button for typing is always located on the upper right hand corner of the screen at this point. To access it, tap that little icon. First tap in the Username space, then tap the keyboard icon Type in your username and tap Return Tap in the Password space and tap the keyboard icon Type in your password and tap Return Then wait, and it will log you in ---- Some things to be aware of: 1) Long fingernails are a problem 2) If you tap any of the links that generate pop ups, for news or the vugraph schedule, you will 'navigate' away from Bridge Base, which means you have to start over. This does one thing at a time, and one thing only. 3) If you like to chat a lot, you will find this somewhat frustrating because the keyboard covers most of the screen. Tap the keyboard icon, and type in your message. Type in your message - tap the "Return" button to send the message or Tap the keyboard icon, review your message, and if it is what you wanted to say, tap the "chat" button to send it. or To change/correct something you wrote, tap the keyboard icon again and modify. The button that is an "x" with an pointed side to the left is the "backspace" button. You can change destination for the chat by tapping on the username or place (table, tournament, kibitzers), where you want it to go, and then watch the lower lefthand corner of the screen to make sure the chat destination has changed. 4) You can 'pin' profiles to the tablet page just like you can on a regular computer; to send a private message tap in the chat bar on the profile, then tap the keyboard icon. Tap the username of the person you wish to chat with; tap "pin" button; tap in the chat space on their profile; tap keyboard; and then proceed as described above. 5) If you are dummy, the program considers you 'idle' - if you are idle too long, a message bar pops up briefly across the top of the screen alerting you to the fact you will be disconnected within 15 seconds, unless you tap the screen. Just tap anywhere on the screen and that will let the program know you're there and doing something. This may affect watching vugraph since it might be considered passive by the program, and you will need to be watching for that message. 6) For playing, tap the Options link and uncheck the option for "Pictures of Cards" - this gives you the graphical display for your hand and makes it much easier to tap the card you want To bid an Alerted bid, tap Alert; tap in the space for the explanation; tap keyboard icon; type in explanation; tap keyboard icon again to make it go away; tap bid level (1, 2 or 3, etc); tap suit symbol. Tapping the suit symbol is what completes the bid and so you need to follow this sequence precisely to make a properly alerted bid. It is tedious. 7) When seated at a table to play, the 'table' fills the whole screen, but the tabs on the right side for "Who's Online", "My Results" "Director" tabs are 'active' and if you tap on one of them, the display is divided, making the table where the hand is take up about 2/3 of the screen. To go back to a full table display, tap the tab again and it goes away. 8) Don't try this with fast tournaments, especially things like ACBL speedball, or the fast robot tournaments, or Bingo bridge. The app is brand new and may have issues we are unaware of. Reconnecting is fast but it will definitely interfere with tournament play.
  20. There is an app called iSwifter and it works! mtn found this on an news article and tried it :) But this is bad because now it means we need 2 iPads instead of only one. We played a few hands and there are a couple of things we noticed: 1) Need to use the hand diagram, and not pictures of cards, makes aiming much more accurate 2) If you go do something else like check email, it disconnects you from BBO entirely 3) Some key characters seem to be missing on the keypad, notably the underscore. So some usernames would not be able to get connected 4) This goes through another server to connect, and it is very speedy, even over a satellite ISP, but we're wondering about password security or capture Otherwise, wow, it worked!
  21. Hold your cursor over their name and it will tell you where they are playing. If you are using the flash version of BBO, you need to turn on the option to show their profile and their location will appear at the top of the profile.
  22. The reason that happens is the TD has no subs in their list of substitutes when they try to replace a player, and they get a message saying to try again in a minute. Most don't wait that long, they keep trying to obtain a sub for their missing player.
