  1. Lord of the Rings - all three movies together are a masterpiece and I may have seen them a few too many times as I can just about recite the dialog along with the characters... Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown - an older movie by Almodovar. He obviously loves and understands women and hilarious comedy which is not in the slapstick vein. Princess Bride - wonderful! Rocky Horror Picture Show - great music Little Shop of Horrors - here's a hint, don't ask your dentist if he liked Steve Martin's performance in this movie right before your dentist is going to give you a shot of novacaine! Love the music. Dinner at Eight - mid 1930's, one of Jean Harlow's first movies and I think they sewed her into that one dress! Marie Dressler does the best double-take I've ever seen when Harlow's character states she was reading a book. The Thin Man and After the Thin Man - classic! Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House - If you're ever considering moving to the country, and building a home or buying a home to remodel - watch this movie first, a couple of times as the first time you'll be laughing too hard. True Stories, and Stop Making Sense - both by David Byrne, of Talking Heads fame. Galaxy Quest - hilarious concept. Basically my favorite genre of movie is anything that makes me laugh.
  2. Fox News. Those people are either hypocritcal to the nth degree (they can't really believe all the &^%$#@# they spout, can they?), or they are so incredibly ignorant that it defies all logic/reason.
  3. We don't watch TV - turned it off years ago as advertising was too intrusive and I absolutely couldn't stand the thought of seeing shrub's face in my livingroom. I am addicted to a couple of old shows which we purchased on DVD, and I can watch them over and over again: Soap Babylon 5 Lord of the Rings movies (best movies ever made, in my opinion) A show that isn't out on DVD yet, but I still have hopes for is Twin Peaks. I am a David Lynch fan. We watched "Mulholland Drive" and liked it so much we purchased it from amazon.com. We also just watched another movie, a collaboration between David Lynch and Disney (that, in and of itself, is so warped we had to watch the movie), called "Straight Story."
  4. I see what you're talking about now. I've just always made it a general personal rule to never accept an invitation to a tourney if I haven't discussed it ahead of time, so I haven't run into this situation.
  5. Also mark the box 'ignore chat from enemies' in your profile and you will never know they have been talking to you to invite you to play, thereby avoiding the whole situation. ;)
  6. Edit your profile and check the box for Ignore Lobby Chat. The only chat you'll see will be chat at the table where you are kibitzing.
  7. On your profile under the Friends/Enemies button are two boxes to be checked, or unchecked. One gives you bubbles, and one gives you an automated chat message.

  11. www.radioparadise.com http://magnatune.com/ Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, Neil Young...., or something classical. Wait, these guys are all so old that their music probably qualifies as classics??
  12. Yes, set it up as invisible after you log in invisible
  13. I was introduced to duplicate bridge at a pro/am bridge tournament in Portland, Oregon; that was the first time I heard that Blackwood was a 'convention' and that there were other conventions. I was hooked!! But working full time, plus commuting over an hour a day each way, there was really no time to play live, and then I discovered online bridge. I learned how to play online, and was even more hooked. Now I live in rural Montana and there are no opportunities to play live bridge without driving for many hours. Fortunately, it doesn't matter B) I can, and do, play or kibitz bridge every day online, and I still love it as much as the first time I played duplicate at a pro/am tournament.
  14. If all you say to an opponent who asks you for an explanation of a bid (especially one like 2♦ which could be virtually anything these days, is that you haven't discussed it with your partner, then aren't you forcing your opponent to guess two things instead of one: 1) What does the bid mean? 2) Does their partner know what it means? Since it is a partnership game, isn't the answer to question #2 inferred to be "yes"? Except, of course, if playing Slovenian Chaos, a system whereby you play one system and your partner plays another system, and you don't tell each other what you're playing. (Try it sometime B) ) I was taught to self alert conventional bids, without prompting from an opponent, and if somebody asks me I was taught to answer the question. But then I've only played face to face bridge on less than ten occasions. Perhaps it is different out in the real world, but in case somebody didn't notice this is a little different place ;)
  15. My pard knows I'm under duress, but he's the one feeling the stress! When someone says double, He knows there is trouble, and incredible chance for a mess!
  16. Roland said I sound like an old man!
  17. I will tackle this project, and if any commentators don't respond, well, I have a good imagination. :)
  18. I first started visiting the site, along with shep, when it was in beta testing and not open to public knowledge. Normally there would only be two or three people online at any one time, not enough for a game :) It was so exciting watching the development and growth of the program.
  19. This is a Lightner double, isn't it? So partner is asking for dummy's first bid suit. And, if I'm wrong, I'll apologize to partner (again) :)
  20. Do you mean Ctrl + R to get a chat window with their name already filled in?
  21. I'm using Win4lin, on an install of Mepis, which is a Debian based release of Linux, and it works extremely well, no problems with disconnections, etc. And I can use the most recent stable kernel
