Fluffy :-) Lead a trump against 7, whoever invented that was so wrong, specially when my pd is a pirate. AJTx K98xx Knowing the queen was missing and having the rest he bid 7♠, they led a side suit and he announced "against 7 lead a trump so she's either void or she has the queen" then proceded to play the spade 9 and when the opening leader played low he announced "since she has a spade and didn't lead it she has the queen" the s9 won the trick and we made 7. He finished with the comment "piece of cake"

[hv=d=s&v=b&n=skthk98dk3ckqxxxx&s=saxxxhaxxdaxxcajx]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] 12 easy tricks but of course we are interested in 7. Do you want to play 7c or 7N ? What chances do you think you have? Luis

How Strong is Partner
luis replied to Echognome's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
17+ with spades. I bid 3NT now, choice of games. -
2NT and then we bid 3♠ if that doesn't show 3-4-2-4 then I'm Mary Poppins. What's the problem with this hand?

Rebidding after negative double
luis replied to pmacfar's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I'd like to say something about this. There's some concept floating among some BBO members about first doubles being takeout and second doubles being for penalties. At least 3 players have asked me about this and now I see you are saying "not 100% penalties" when it should be "still 100% takeout" instead. Is there any idea more absurd that a hand that first has a takeout double and then morphs into a penalty double? No! If you have a t/o double your 2nd double is still t/o showing maybe extra strength or extra shape. Of course pd can pass a t/o double when he has a trump stack but that doesn't mean your 2nd double is more penalty oriented than the first one, not at all! Luis -
I don't think we have an 8 card spade fit, pd would have bid 2♠ with 3 spades instead of 3♣. The 3♣ bid should be showing 5 good clubs and a strong doubleton is spades like Ax or AQ. That's what I think. Luis
-
What preemption? They are not bidding anything else in this hand. They didn't bid 3♥ over 2NT they are not bidding it once you have shown your suit. I wonder how is pd going to evaluate what to do over 4♣ when should he bid 5 and when should he pass ? That's why I don't like the bid we may pass 3♣ or we may bid 5♣ but I don't think pd is in a better position to decide.

Rebidding after negative double
luis replied to pmacfar's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Agree with the others, this will be almost universal. Pd has 5 or more spades pd doesn't have a strong hand since 2♠ can be passed. Your bid now should be DBL. Luis -
I usually don't say my opnion about non-bridge issues and playing with special rules is not bridge but ok.... There's nothing to alert and south's double is irrational, so result stands, next hand.

We use 5♠ for this, solves a lot of possible missunderstandings, do you really use 5♥? You can't use 5♠ to ask pd for a queen to play 6 because you are already in 6.

Is there a name for it ?

I disagree with Helen, I don't play penalty doubles in competition. I think you can use the double as a trial bid. -
Weak jump shifts not legal?

Report them to abuse@bridgebase.com I'm sure they will enjoy their time in BBO-Jail -
The Dark side needs new apprentices. A great danger I sense. We must teach the force to those young padawans before they start with the Standard Sith system. Use the force Richard!

5h asks for the heart Q to play 6.

6♦ :-) Nice problems.

4♣ to be followed by 4♥

I think I would bid 5♣

Many pairs play tramsfers after 1x-X some only after a major suit opening. The standard treatment is that with a "normal" opening hand opener accepts the transfer, refusal of the transfer shows a strong hand. Luis

When there's a MI case the TD Job is to 1. determine if there was missinformation (there was) 2. determine if there was damage (there was) 3. determine if the damage was caused by the MI (it wasn't the damage was caused by the reopening double and the MI had nothing to do with that) When one of the 3 points doesn't apply the TD job is to let the result stand and you are free to appeal if you feel there're bridge considerations to contemplate, TDs can't rule based on bridge considerations they can only obey the rules of bridge. My guess is that an AC wil dismiss the case fast and you will lose your deposit. Your opponents may get a procedural penalty for their failure to properly follow the alert regulations. Luis

I would let the result stand for your side and adjust to 2♥ undoubled for them for the failure to alert. Their result has to be changed due to the infraction but your side doesn't merit any adjustment since the double of 2♥ is quite irrational in my opinion. Luis

Trasfer to diamonds. In a near future this will be as standard as transfers over 1NT are today, most good pairs are already playing transfers after 1x-Dbl or will be playing that in a near future, the method gives more room and more flexibility. The ability to distinguish a bad 3 card raise from a good one is quite important in competitive auctions.

Enjoy! Luis

todays topic is michaels
luis replied to sceptic's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
2♣ is normal playing strong/weak Michaels which is the most accepted treatment. 2♦ seems to be a mistake since 2♠ is probably a lot better after 2♠ you can bid a normal 4♠ and play there. Now that pd bid wrongly 2♦ your 5♦ bid is sound in the given context. Luis -
Quantative NT bids?
luis replied to vbcastor's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
My best recomendation is to never learn gerber and if you know it please forget it. I saw in a movie we'll be able to erase memories from the brain in the future, when such a technology arrives I will erase gerber first. If you want to use blackwood use a 4 level transfer followed by 4NT I prefer south african transfers since they are easier to remember 4c->hearts and 4d->spades Luis -
Appropriate Disclosure and Online Bridge
luis replied to hrothgar's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Hey Luis I resent the DRevil implications: Full disclosure is full disclosure......look at the question posted about what type of hands would you opene weak twos on......weakt two are pretty common prolly i guess about 98% of players play them. But what is not disclosed is how your partners tendencies are. if you know you partner opends most of the time on jxxxxx your opps really are entitled to that info, but i have never seen anyone say we open undisciplined two bids  When I'm asked I usually say "can be dramatic". I think that's a good description of some of my weak 2s
