Low club, automatic :-)

3 or 4 hearts or something different
luis replied to sceptic's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Looks like a normal 3♥ overcall to this simple soul. 4♥ is a bid that in a more fair world would be down -1400 doubled. -
There's only one adjustment you need: You need to play better :-)

I think is simple maybe I'm not seeing something. club to the king a diamond back towards KQ if this holds spade to dummy and yet another diamond.

unhappy op in a tournament

I have some different views: I don't think 1NT is crazy, I don't think it's crazy at all. I don't think you have enough for a reverse, I would find a reverse exotic with that hand. I don't think you have to alert anything even if you agree with your pd that 1NT can have a 5 card major. They can always ask about that, otherwiser a 1NT opening should be alerted as: "15-17, 14 good is ok, 18 never, can have 5 card major but usually not 54 in both majors, 6322 is fine with a minor, with a bad major he did that once, maybe also 5422 and some 4441 or 5431 with a singleton ace or K" I think your opponents bid badly and now try to blame the 1NT opening as many players usually do. They must learn to lose before they can win. Luis -
I think I would open 5♦ and I would consider bidding 6 in my next round. Of course this kind of polls are not very useful since with freak hands anything may work great or badly.
-
Is this a real question? Everybody will vote for 6N.

I would adjust to +590

Directors disallow kibs to prevent cheating. Assuming they need such a drastic measure then it's logical to think they charge for the inscription. I think that BBO should charge a higher comission to TDs running tourneys without kibs because they are using BBO for a private income without leting the other BBO members enjoy the show while TDs running tourneys where the public is allowed should be charged a lesser percentage. That's what I think and about 70% of my ideas are wrong but I need to be wrong many times to make the other 30% appear :-) Luis

5♠ I would like to have better texture in the minors to make a forcing pass and then pull.

Hello everybody, I'm trying to find ideas for our NBO for the upcoming national pairs event. So I'm requesting ideas about what format can be used to make it fair for everybody, the requirements are the following ones: - Open event, so anyone can play - Expect about 80 pairs with 50 very bad pairs and about 5 to 10 very good pairs - Has to be MPs - You have 3 days for the event, aproximately 5 or 6 sessions. What would you do? Resources are of course limited Thanks! Luis

No, it's insane. Any hand that couldn't bid over 1♥ won't be able to bid after 1♥-3♥ passed around. It doesn't make sense.
-
I think I choose 3♥ as well, if pd bids 3♠ I can bid 4♦ depicting a hand that will want to play slam if pd has the club control.

This is not a game of points, it's a game of tricks. There're no points. If you want an answer I would say North may have Something like: x AQxx AKQxxxx x

Gerber in non-nt auctions
luis replied to Badmonster's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I don't think I can even speak about it, too scary. But basically whereagles is right , Gerber is evil and should not be used. -

Gerber? This thread should be deleted due to inapropiate material. Ladies may read it, even kids! -
Sounds interesting indeed! What's that 2♣ gazilli-bid exactly??? 2c is either natural or 19+ in this sequence (power doubles) responder will bid 2♦ with a game forcing hand 6-8 HCP or natural with 0-5. Over 2♦ 6-8 doubler cuebids with a natural 15-18 hand with clubs or bids natural with 19+, a Gf situation has been stablished.

One interesting option is to use the same style Fantoni-Nunes use over their 1x openings. Over 1♣: 1♦, 1♥ as 0-8 transfers (4+cards) 1♠ as 0-8 without a 4 card major 1N as 9+ balanced GF 2c, 2d, 2h, 2s as 9+ GF unbalanced Over 1♦: 1♥, 1♠ = 0-8 4+ cards 1NT = 0-8 not a 4 card major 2x = 9+ GF unbal with the cuebid being 9+ balanced GF Over 1♥: 1♠ = 0-8 4+ spades 1N = 0-8 not 4sp doubler can now bid 2♣ as a gazilli-like bid 2x = 9+ GF unabal with the cuebid being 9+ balanced GF Same over 1♠ Luis

I think 4♦ is a very bad bid.

Correct bidding to get to the worst contract
luis replied to Wackojack's topic in Interesting Bridge Hands
I will reach 3NT and I'm not worried, what's the problem with 3NT? From your apocaliptic post I know 3NT is going down, but WTP? If you never go down in 3NT then you are not playing 3NT enough. -
I play that 2♠ is forcing but doesn't promise a rebid. Responder can pass if: Opener rebids his suit Opener supports with 3♠ or 4♠ Opener bids 2NT or 3NT Responder can't pass to a new suit or a cuebid.
-
After 1♦ if LHO bids 1♥ and that is passed to me I reopen with 2♠ which is very forcing. Then it depends on what pd does.
-
If spades are 5-0 then 6♠ can be down on a club lead since there's no way to park the club loser. So I guess that playing 7♦ or 6♠ is then the same and I'm happy with 7♦, I wouldn't pull the double, since the defender doubling knows you know about all the cards he knows if 7♦ is cold and can be pulling a bluff to make you bid 7N which may not be cold at all.
