[hv=d=w&v=n&s=st2h72dj98cakqt76]133|100|Scoring: IMP 1♣-?[/hv] RHO announces "Full SAYC", Deals and Opens 1♣...what do YOU do with this hand? What's your opinion on 3NT as 'Gambling'? The other option in this partnership is a natural 3♣ preempt (I can't pass because that shows 12+HCP...or can I?) Regards, Justin

Not subs. Actually I'm happy for them to come in as subs, unless they are utterly foul, in which case I ask, and trust, abuse@bridgebase.com to 'take care' of them, and will have them truly an 'enemy' and remove them. Thanks, Uday. I have to wonder why it is not possible to make them infallible. I - and I'm sure many other TDs (and players) - regard this as a significant flaw, especially considering what would seem to be a fairly simple logic to it's execution. You have previously told me that there are limits to include lists, too: http://forums.bridgebase.com/index.php?sho...4303&hl=include. I can readily understand and accept there may be limitations to how many persons one can exclude. IS this problem related to the size of the list? I like running tourneys. I'm proud of doing so, and I try to make them fun and/or interesting, and run them as well as I can. I LOVE the idea that a couple of players can meet in the wonderful place that is BBO and register to play in a tourney I am hosting without a lot of fuss. There are, however, a number of players who apparently do not respect the the rules of the site, or the conditions of contest that I have posted, and regularly cause disruption. They are NOT welcome. I know that I can mark them as enemies and 'boot' them, but this places a drain on the reserves of substitute players, and causes issues of it's own. A private club (any form of include list, really) would, I suspect, involve even more administrative effort on my part. Can't it be fixed?

Having gone to GREAT lengths to create a database of 'bad' players and a rating system for same, I am NOT pleased that a number of players on an exclude list I have created (200 names) are still quite able to register for my tourneys. What's the go?

YAY my fave co-TD and sweet freind! Have a beer on me :-)

Hi, I'm having an odd problem with myhands (Bridge Base Online - Myhands) and wonder whether anyone else might be experiencing the same thing... If I click on the 'interval' drop-down which allows the specification of days/weeks/months, the 'number' drop-down next to it goes blank. I can't even type a value in there. I installed Firefox a couple of days ago as my Internet Explorer was having some serious issues, but I'm doubtful whether this could be related. Both browsers are displaying this same problem. FWIW Firefox works like a charm, although if I copy and paste the myhands results from Firefox it loses the the suit symbols (and doesn't delimit properly unless I paste 'as Unicode).

A way to screen capture Traveler scoresheet?

I voted 3♣. I'd like 2♣; I play that 4th seats 2-level openings are natural, showing a good expectation of making the bid opposite nothing. I expect I'll take 8 tricks with this hand all by itself. It occurs to me, however, that leaves me no good way to show a balanced 22-23 in 4th seat. I'd have to fudge, and open 2NT on 20-22 and 3NT on 23-25.

yeah I forgot 4♠, 'other other', and UnDouble.
-
Stephen, I thought exactly the same sort of thing, and bid 2♠. ...my partner bid 2NT. What now?

[hv=d=s&v=b&s=saqj2ha53daqt53c6]133|100|Scoring: IMP You deal and open 1♦, overcalled 1♠, partner doubles, passed to you...[/hv]

What is the best card game for an 8 yr old?
Mr. Dodgy replied to Thymallus's topic in Offline Bridge
I've played 'Oh Hell' with my family for years, fun game for all ages. Definitely worth using the 'total bid <> total available' rule We actually renamed this game 'Gin and Tonic' as an inverse of Douglas Adams' alcohol theory, because we found that practically everyone knows this game by a different name. -

Since BBOv4.7.9, it has been possible to right-click on the names of 'Red' (disconnected) players and access various functions previously only available with respect to online players, including: Send a message Label as freind/neutral/enemy Edit notes I had hoped this would make keeping notes on and/or blacklisting 'quitters' in my tourneys simpler (although I now keep most such notes in a database external to BBO itself). BUT, when a player goes red in a tourney, only the 'usual' TD functions are accessible via right-click - in fact the ONLY function there is to substitute. It would be VERY nice if the FULL set of TD functions remained available (where applicable...I'm not sure off the top of my head what all the functions are, but retaining 'see board history' might be useful, for example) AND those listed above. I don't see how it can be right to PM your opponents. You should say nothing - are your opps entitled to know MORE than your partner? FWIW: ABCL Tournament Laws: 25. Legal and illlegal changes of call. Not a bad idea to PM the DIRECTOR, however. I agree with Ben

Cards: Bridge is best by a mile, but Cribbage is about as good as you get for 2 or 3 players. Spent a lot of time in adolescence playing Five Hundred, and my (basic) bridge knowledge made me quite formidable in a social game. I suck at Poker. I usually do pretty well at word games, and Trivial Pursuit. Pictionary is fun. On the computer I LOVE the Baldur's Gate series, in large part as a fond reminsence of some miserable grades in High School resulting from being far more interested in pen-and-paper Dungeons and Dragons than homework. I'd give my left arm to be involved in the development of a Rolemaster-based FRPG game, though my talents would likely be best directed at playtesting :-)) I am semi-addicted to Freecell! I was a Phys Ed teacher so I'm into many sports, though mainly as a spectator these days. Cricket and volleyball are favorites, along with lacrosse, hockey, and martial arts. I play a fairly mean game of 8-Ball, and a decent game of tenpin bowling. Australia has the best football code in the world...carna HAWKS. Gridiron when the Broncos are winning, soccer when Arsenal are (though I'd actually rather play than WATCH soccer). I'm at best ordinary at golf, tennis and gymnastics but do like to watch the big events in each. I can't relate at all to baseball or basketball, oddly I don't mind netball so much.

LOL, I didn't leave, although the boards detailed were not the only reason I might have had for doing so. My partner's comments about my skill were, frankly, disgraceful (and, it would seem from the replies to this thread thus far, misplaced). But this was a tournament, and I NEVER leave. I felt sickened, but stuck it out. MBC I would have left after #3, if not considerably earlier. No, Ben, it wasn't you. I suspect you knew that. The one time I have played with you was thoroughly enjoyable, even if not spectacularly successful
-
Agreed, I probably got #2 wrong. Upgrade and 3♦ instead of 3♣ would be better, and a double after agreeing a suit should generally be penalty, but I have some difficulty seeing how it really can be here - I have shown ♥s & ♠s with my NegX, and supported ♣s (rather weakly) with my raise...so I'm not holding much in the way of ♦s, especially considering the opponent's bidding and South's own holding there. I tend to play DSIP Doubles by preference, showing extras and encouraging further competition (I'd just Pass here if I thought we were beating 3♦ - the gain from a penalty double is not likely to be great and the risk enormous), a treatment I should avoid with a pickup. :) Good Lesson though.
-
No, South rebid his 6-card club suit after my NegX, so I raised. I wasn't terribly happy about 3♣, as I thought it was something of an underbid...thus I was happy to double next time around to show some extras. Maybe I should have just bid 5♣, but I felt that a double would give my partner a (second) chance to do something.
-
uh, evidently not Ooops, I was East, not West. Original post corrected.

Playing with an 'expert' partner, whose profile stated SAYC the following disasters befell me. Please comment on the bidding. 1. I'm East... [hv=d=s&v=e&w=skq92h43dk862cj54&e=s43hkqj5dajcak973]266|100|Scoring: IMP P-P-P-1♣ P-1♦-P-2♥ P-2♠-P-3♣ A[/hv] I wasn't sure whether 2♠ was asking for or showing stops. To my mind it should be asking. In any case, someone should bid 3NT. Who? 2. I'm North... [hv=d=s&v=b&n=skjt2hk974d4ckj42&s=sa983hdjt2caqt975]133|200|Scoring: IMP 1♣-1♦-X-1♥ 2♣-2♥-3♣-3♦ P-P-X-A[/hv] 3. I'm East... The unofficial BBO Precision players list
Mr. Dodgy replied to TylerE's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
Precision was the first system I ever learned, albiet a now apparently outdated version (circa 1970 Goren wrote a book on CC Wei's Precision). I barely play it now (and don't have the book handy), but would like to. I'd probably need some help though. I consider myself Advanced-Intermediate. I'm on most Australian evenings and often at other times on Australian weekends and holidays. My (main) BBO ID is 'MrDodgy'. I have some webspace. -

It wasn't a team match but I had an odd problem substituting the other day, too. I had subbed into a 'sitout' seat in a tournament, and tried to 'get a substitute for my partner' (the other sitout) using the 'call director' button. Each time, 'an error occurred', and the substitution was not completed. The same thing happened if I tried the alternate 'show me the list of substitutes' method. Eventually, a substitute arrived, I presume at the behest of a TD. This substitute was one the the players I had tried in vain to obtain from the sub list.
