The question is so exaggerated it seems like a rhetorical question. One person is all we get for throwing the entire world into TOTAL poverty and destitution? Back in the real world... What if it was, saving say 20 million people, and the consequence was that the entire world would have to learn a different mode of living than rampant consumption, instant gratification-seeking and expenditure?

Is this allowed in the U.K., suing the government? In any case, it is another blot on the face of the do-nothing, know-nothing political parties around the world, and the media that support them.

If I had to guess, you mistakenly hit the pass key and the board was passed out before you quit the table.

[Final] Event 18 information and score reporting
mythdoc replied to smerriman's topic in BBO Forum Events
I think I had to play 9x16 hands in the first round. If that had been 9x12, I think I could have done so without wearing down as much. Alternatively, if 16 boards are preferred, maybe make more brackets so that no one must play more than 6 matches in the first round. It’s a very long format event, too long, in my opinion. This isn’t the Bermuda Bowl. Just my two cents. Additionally, I didn’t realize until about the fourth match that I could leave the table when I pleased, lol. Anyway, there’s plenty of bridge to play on BBO, whatever one wants. I started playing challenges with my former partner and we’re having a blast. I also want to reiterate my esteem for my opponents and their play. -
In my experience, yes, it is. Whenever GIB has equivalent honors it always seems to play the higher one first.

Good luck to the semi finalists! Comment for next time: play shorter matches. 12 boards. I thought I’d be able to do the longer format, but in the end it was more than I could do. Having more players who can make the time commitment of 12 is preferable to fewer who can do 16. My two cents. Thanks again and best wishes. -
A Bizarre Auction and Result. What went wrong?
mythdoc replied to FelicityR's topic in Expert-Class Bridge
I guess it is an involuntary error, north crossed his wires somehow. I recently made a similar blunder, not to say I am worthy of the comparison to a player at that level mind you. After opening 1NT then super accepting a spade transfer, pard retransfered with 4♥ and I passed! The bidding went 1NT-2♥-2NT-4H- and I passed. I don’t see any other explanation than that N, after two transfers, bid the suit his partner had been using as a transfer by mistake. -
Winner of Zia's online sectional disqualified?
mythdoc replied to proloto's topic in BBO Tournaments Discussion
I also would like there to be a little more transparency within limits. I realized this week that a thread I started a couple months ago, without naming any names, just a questionable board in robot play, was removed from the forum. At the same time I applaud any efforts made to disqualify results obtained crookedly. -
Is this hand interesting at MPs because the percentage plays didn’t work? At MP’s I typically don’t deviate from the odds without a good feeling why. A stiff heart alone doesn’t do that. At IMPs I’ll twist to guard against the worst.

Against GIB robots and their lead tendencies, playing 10 would be the most likely to set up the Q on rd 3.

Well, I wish I could have given group C a better level of competition, such as I’m capable of. Perhaps next time. Thanks and congratulations to the winners! -
I believe it was explained to us that in these days of advanced robots, the exact same progression should lead to the exact same play, correct? But, for instance, if leading from xxxx across to KQ10x, rising with the Q vs the K (even though functionally equivalent, but not precisely the same card) might solicit different responses from the defense for the rest of the hand? Do I have this correct?

   Sincerely, one of my biggest peeves, GIB's lack of appreciation of 3NT as almost a sacred stopping place and its lack of ability to defer to my wanting to set the contract there. With regard to Flannery, it is an indispensable convention, when the hand occurs, and a weak 2D bid rarely does much practical good, IMHO
-
Short answer is the robot should have corrected you to diamonds, based on its own interpretation of your bid, even if your hand was 5-4 in the minors, instead of 4-5 as it suspected. The AI for the robots is particularly lacking in basic sense in certain situations.

https://tinyurl.com/uyl3pzc Honestly, what does it take for my GIB partner to allow ME to convince IT that I know 3NT is the correct contract, after it bids 2S?

self-splnter this?
mythdoc replied to straube's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
The preceding comments underline what I was getting at above, expressing doubt about the splinter bid. Frankly, I’m not crazy about that being one of the two choices in the poll. It is responder’s (my) job to place this contract. I know much more about opener’s hand. Opener especially has no idea I have a solid seven card running heart suit, so my telling him/her about my shortness is leaking information in the wrong direction, to no real purpose. One of the tenets of a good bridge partnership is each partner knows when it is their call to make. It’s clearly mine on this hand. Therefore, signing off in 4♥ at least fulfills my role. My other option, I think, is to ask aces and place the contract in 5 or 6 ♥. You said this is IMPS so I am likely to do the latter. -

mythdoc replied to straube's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Your hand provides a whopping 7 tricks opposite pard’s 14-16. I would not sign off without exploring, as it is easy to imagine a slam making. I can understand why you are Considering splintering, it wouldn’t be my choice, but it seems better than simply signing off. I’d also give some thought to a Texas transfer followed by RKCB. I’m not convinced pard can tell me what I need to know after I tell him about my shortness, and I feel it is I who will set the final contract. Some partnerships (mine was one in the old days) drew a distinction between Texas then RKCB vs. a Jacoby transfer followed eventually by RKCB. -
I also would stop at 3 ♥ after this auction. My long suits are full of holes, and partner has not indicated help in spades. If his diamonds are don’t provide direct relief, we won’t make 4♥
