  1. And just to show how useful the prime area is - for me anyway - I made a whole bunch of hands with the playbridge generator so that I could practice defence. This one just came up: My North robot went down 1 vulnerable in 4H. I was a bit taken aback until I saw the whole hand. What a great partner! [hv=pc=n&s=skj532ht9654dt8cj&d=n&v=n&b=5&a=p1d2dp4hppdppp]133|200[/hv] Here's the LIN file, Here's the PBN
  2. Says vampyr What does she mean? Does she mean that there are ? Or does she mean something else? Perhaps she means - wait for it.... YES... around about 20. Who says at least 20 if they are thinking of a number that is around 200? BUT. the evidence is there are quite a lot more than 20, in fact, actual data suggests more than 288. Using inductive reasoning oh forget it.... Is that how you quote for a job? Do you say I'm going to charge at least $20 for the whole job and then present a bill for $3,000,000,000. What madness is this Släng dig i väggen
  3. What!!! I am using inductive logic. Have you not heard of Bertrand Russell? 288 people played in the Saturday Prime Daylong. Therefore there are at least 288 Prime members. pilowsky knows of another 6 members who did not play in the tourney. pilowsky does not know everyone that is member of prime. When pilowsky plays in prime he notices that almost all the people he sees are strangers. Therefore pilowsky calculates that there are a lot more than 288 prime members. You do the maths.
  4. Look Stephen. this has nothing to do with "at least". Vampyr is upset about the number of people that use the prime area. Clearly there are many more than 20. Who knows why this upsets her? You seem to be distraught about "at least". I don't know why this upsets you. Actually, I think I do know, but I still don't care. Do you have nothing better to do with your time? People are dying out there. AT LEAST I THINK THEY ARE.
  5. Not so fast Stephen. If 288 players completed the tournament, and at least 6 players that I know of did not participate. It is, therefore, possible that 288 is out by a factor somewhere between 2 and 6. Possibly more. Think harder before you leap into the white suit of armour. Sometimes it doesn't fit. It didn't fit last time either. I am underestimating deliberately. At least I'm spreading out the lines for you
  6. Although there is something to what Mycroft says, in that we do not want to prevent Bill Gates or Brenda Hale from enjoying themselves on BBO without being pestered by adoring fans, perhaps there is a case for sweeping away the debris of login names that people may have captured in a moment of whimsy and never used. Perhaps if a name is not used for a certain period it could be removed. Or if there is no fluctuation in the account or some other parameter. For example, I am now following 'ace' ace's real name is 'forgen'. Forgen comes from Other and created their entry on the 1st of March 2005. They have no Masterpoints. It's not surprising because they have never logged in. Neither has king whose name is chin huang-mien from Taiwan. This name was - you guessed it created on the 1st of March 2005. It roughly translates into eat my yellow noodle. :) - this one you can keep. Very funny.
  7. And, fwiw, I just got the results of the Saturday Prime Daylong. 288 players completed it. Sounds like more than 20. At least six people that I know are prime members are not on the list of players this week. This suggests that well over 1000 people may be members. I guess that your guess is not right.
  8. You seem to have developed a major problem with the prime area. It is nothing more at least at the moment than a monthly prepaid plan where customers of BBO like me get access to the Advanced robots for practice. We get some other things, but some things that we want are not there. It is not helpful to have other people sitting on the sidelines defining what I should or should not want. In fact, it is a little bit annoying. You have no idea about the clientele in the prime area. My understanding is that the initial 'free' bit stopped a while back. I have a friend who was part of the free cohort. his membership lapsed and he did not restart it. I was not one of the 'chosen people'. I had to sign up and pay. I think the prime area is great and am promoting it as much as I can. So do the other people that use it. We just want it to be even better. If you are not interested then stay away.
  9. I wish we had a global lockdown. Then we would not be in the ***** that we are in.
  10. This not the first pandemic post social media. The metabolic syndrome is in pandemic proportions. I am pretty sure that it is the reason that Americans have such a high morbidity and mortality rate from COVID19.
  11. Guessing without knowledge is called...?
  12. What sort of creature is a Vampire exactly? Better a witty fool, than a foolish wit. - William Shakespeare. Perhaps your 'friends' should be asking the question.
  13. I have discovered a workaround that is extremely tedious. On a teaching table, I can reload the hand onto the table, move myself to another seat and then let the robots bid the hand. Still a bit annoying.
  14. So, that would be the city that does not have a football team. Which one is that? I'm packing my bags now.
  15. I don't understand this at all. I don't have any Director privileges, yet even I have successfully run team matches.
  16. If you have ads then you are not paying to use any part of BBO. You are getting everything that BBO provides for free. The 'Ad' is your way of providing payment for the service. Another way to provide payment is to purchase something on BBO. Then the Ads will stop. That's what I do. It's up to you.
  17. Unfortunately Mr Cyberyeti, symptomatic people do not stay away. Some of them believe that God will protect them and others. Some of them believe that not being allowed to go out infringes their 'right' to free speech and free assembly. I know that for a grown-up this is difficult to grasp. I could hardly believe it until, as a Doctor, I visited some of their homes. But it is true. Some people just don't care about you, me, or even Richard.
  18. To be clear. Education is something the individual does for themselves. They can do it anywhere. They do not need a building. They can do it in Hotzeplotz. Teaching is coming that can be good or bad. Very few teachers become true "educators" because they do not learn the concept of "the fully imagined audience". Some are good at it because they already have learned to be Educators elsewhere. You cannot learn to be an Educator in a few weeks or even in a year. It takes a lot of work. There is much more to being a Teacher than 'see one, do one, teach one'. No wonder so many people find Bridge a difficult game to learn. To say nothing of Mathematics and everything else. The ability to solve a simultaneous equation does not confer upon someone the ability to draw out in another person the ability to do for themselves. To do that you need to be an Educator. To do that you need very specific training. That training is not commonly provided to Teachers which is why most Schools just function as child-care. That is why online learning from one good educator is much better. Does that help? Syllogistically speaking
  19. Have you ever noticed that there is no correlation at all between competence in one area and competence in another? Someone who is fantastic in one field may not be the best bridge player. Interestingly, there is also no relationship between competence and confidence. Although as a rule, men do seem to have more confidence than women - Sarah Cooper said that quite recently. She was referring to Donald J Trump on the topic of cognition and COVID19 In Trump, I think, we have a man who is nearly 100% confidence and 0% competence. Isn't that something?
  20. I used to live around the corner from the Coopers brewery. "cloudy but fine". It is close to the vineyard where Penfold grew the grapes for Grange Hermitage. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penfolds_Grange. Possibly something even Mikeh and I would agree with me when I say is fine wine. The aroma of the brewery wafted across our house on the right day in the foothills of Adelaide. I even went to medical school with one of the Cooper children. Of course, the English stuff everything up by serving it warm.
  21. Permit me to introduce you to the concept of the "social contract". Imagine for a moment that you and your partner - who live on your own - and are asymptomatic carriers of a deadly disease that is highly contagious. Are you with me so far? Go to the pub... At the pub, you meet some people... Are you following me now? These people then go to their homes after touching the doorknob that you touched before the cleaner could clean it. Oh dear, you have accidentally *****ed up the entire community. Never mind. You had an enjoyable ale. Was it a cold Fosters?
  22. It's true, The 'cognitive' thing was a cheap shot. Inspired by the shenanigans swirling around our Dear Leader. I hope everyone has enjoyed . I never realised how important those extra points were at the end. Every drink of alcohol lowers your mental acuity. It also lowers your ability to maintain social distancing. One carrier may then spread it to others who will then transmit it to many who will then take it some to elderly relatives - do we really need to go over this all over again and again and again and again. encore et encore et encore et encore.arís agus arís agus arís agus arís eile.igen och igen och igen och igen.一遍又一遍 genug ist genug
  23. I play on both Step is an Australian Club. I am playing on it right now. BBO is my other main Club.
