  1. Don't quote me on this because I am a terrible statician - but i believe the odds of the KJ tight in one hand (which is what you need for this to work) is less than 10%. (My reckoning 4%) Otherwise as Jason points out you dont have the entries or the number of ruffs in dummy to do what you need to do. Think a finesse is still close to 50% unless they changed it.
  2. Actually this hand is easy for an economist - just assume you get a heart or spade lead and Bob's your uncle. Otherwise it causes nausea.
  3. Thanks - that helps - I used to have a symbol and it disappeared - however I have never played in a pay tourney to my knowledge so shouldn't have had it in the first place. Course suppose someone might have paid for my entry to a paid tourney and I wasn't aware of it being such. Anyway I really liked that little 2 so I cut one out of cardboard and stick it on my monitor every time I play on BBO, for old times sake. Tomorrow maybe I will get sparkles to put on it.
  4. not sure how to hide reply - can someone tell me?
  5. I am with Lukewarm here - broadcasts are not high frequency and I personally appreciate the heads-up on the vugraph proceedings. Personally I haven't paid a dime for anything yet on this site - but have been enjoying a wonderful bridge experience as a spectator and player - so if broadcasts do something to help the BBO economy it might be in my best interests to accept them as part of the cost for what I am getting. Pretty small fee to my mind.
  6. The numbers and face card symbols that are attached to a players profile to indicate their BBO points accumulation are a curiousity to me. Are they awarded for all tournies regardless of pay or not? Can you lose them for poor play (as I seem to have done :) ) or are they a monthly thing that get reset at month end? Is there a listing somewhere of BBO points awarded that we can access?
  7. I have kibbitzed some of the finest players in the world on this site and undo's are granted by them without hesitation. Seems the lower the calibre of player the less likely they are to accept undo's. Come on folks it's just a game! The one thing I do like about Swan bidding boxes is that you select the bid and then you have to click bid or bid/alert. Think that cuts down on a lot of misclicks. I really don't want to score well because someone misclicked - if I do, the only thing it says about my game is ........ nothing good thats for sure!
  8. I personally am in awe of Roland's skill in this role - aside from his considerable skill in analysis - I see a composer and conductor of a symphony at work in presenting us with remarkable harmony. The bridge greats have table feel - Roland has vugraph feel - there is evidence of an amazing intuitiveness and sensitivity to the viewers needs. Hats off to you Roland. You the man!! Please bring back 'Pooh bear' - he cracks me up.
  9. It seems to me in the BBO system that exists presently - the adage "fool me once, shame on you - fool me twice, shame on me" might be helpful for people to consider when they chose a tourney to play in. I think BBO Police would be foolhardy at best and destructive at worse. Clearly improving the situation is desirable and my recommendation is a pro-active rather than re-active one. Begin a 'voluntary' (not mandatory) director's certification program and allow certified directors to be easily recognized on-line. That would serve to put a useful tool in the player's hands. In time, I suspect the quality of directing will increase and the number of these regrettable incidents will decrease.
  10. I think those sponsoring organizations and tournament directors who think their events would benefit from an AC should go for it. It's not an issue for BBO to my mind. The more bureacracy that is created here - the less dynamism we will experience. So much wisdom has been put forth in the foregoing - I hope someone is gleaning. In this somewhat of a free market economy - seems to me the buyer needs to be left with some responsibility to ensure the quality of the experience they have here. I may have missed it but how about a director certification process operated by the association of TD's - those already certified by their national associations could likely be accepted carte blanche. Training and competency assessment for the others. Seems in everyone's best interests. Even those who just want to run a few tournies for kicks can't take too much exception to this, methinks, A period of a year, for those already serving to get certified would be appropriate. Or just put a little sheriff's badge on those who are accredited directors and let the chips fall where they may.
  11. I think turning off lobby chat when kibbing or in lecture does make a difference. I have been doing that the last couple of days and it feels rather peaceful - except for the one director who comes in and spams kibitzers - the log is pretty much just for that table.
  12. Is it possible now to screen out the lobby chat when you are kibitzing a table? If so, how can I implement that feature? If not, that would be a nice addtion or a split chat box - one with lobby chat and one with table chat. Normally it's not much of an issue, but in the last few days I have had the thrill to kib a table in the main room along with 250 others - a table of some better than average players (a few Bermuda Bowls in the group). To watch them play live is fantastic enough - but the bonus is the kibitzer list reads like a significant chunk of the current Who's Who in bridgedom and they are all chatting and commenting and translating the table discussion. The problem is, there is so much lobby chat coming through that it is hard to catch the thread of the discussion - so it would be nice just to focus on what's happening at that table. I don't resent the merchants spamming us with tourney ads - it would be just nice to have some control over how much of it we let in.
  13. Pass with the sure knowledge that the sight of my own blood always makes me feel queasy. they are gin for 3nt anyway. What's the is issue?
