  1. Wow missed some fun I see! Fred - I think you missed something subtle here - let me tell you about a good old farm boy from Floral Saskatchewan who played a little hockey - name's Gordie. He used to go to the Chicago arena and get booed long and loud as soon as his skates hit the ice - when asked how he felt about it he said "Great isn't it? So much recognition" Wonder if this Bob guy might come to the lecture theatre on BBO and have a chat with Fred about the theme of this thread - I'd take a day off work to be there.
  2. Wow a little energy in this thread - caused me to think about a quote - either Jacoby or Goren when asked why he was so successful - he replied "That's simple - I just put a bushel basket under the table and catch everything that falls off."
  3. 2S? overbid in my book. set hearts see what pard does.
  4. I only have two pieces of ID my waist size and my IQ number - and fondly wishing that my waist size wasn't the bigger number. Sorry didn't mean two polls just two ways of posting panel responses.
  5. Could we have two forms of the poll? One for the bridge hawks (as it now) and one for the plebes. Love bridge polls with panels cause I can see how I do (usually suck), but chasing through the threads to find the scoring is more time than I want to spend. I appraciate it is likely a lot of work to engineer a feedback to me including panel votes and your score, however a single Panel Results thread that is closed would be cool for me.
  6. Uday not sure you should be too hasty - Fred is just peaking on his 10 year cycle - after he wins the Bowl he should be back for a significant period. yeah right!
  7. Glen - think you are on the right track here - seems to me a team physician, nutritionist, sports psychologist, meditation coach and image consultant might also step forward to help the boys out. A public relations consultant might be advisable as Fred's silver in the Bowl in 95 seems to have gone unnoticed - so punching up awareness can never hurt. A crash course in Italian language may also serve well. Even though much of this could be volunteer there will be some costs involved in trimming the fat and nullifying the atrophy, so if we all dig deep and send Ekeblad $10 BBO - i think we can all rest easy that we have done our part. The one area I am not concerned about is their bridge skill so no coaching is necessary. What a relief - who could we find to do that?
  8. Man I am soooo with The Hog on this one - an appropriate score adjustment and a polite "Please alert this bid in future" will go a long way to making this site a place where people want to stay and play. When a director is absolutely sure the player knows better - then maybe a procedural penalty is in order to try and curb the behavior - can anyone be that sure?
  9. I think this whole thing is rigged as a promotional ploy for BBO by Fred. Surely to goodness what we witnessed in both matches a few hours ago can't be real. Like he is setting us to pay in the future - and who wouldn't after that. This is like some kind of amazing magic show - go Freddie go.
  10. Well this thread certainly gets me excited about being an operator. Groan!!!!!! Since last nights difficulties with hands (switched 90 degrees it seems) I am wondering who checks and when the integrity of the dup file disk for vugraph is checked. Time for you to write the operators training manual David - I will buy the first copy.
  11. Guess I might put my energy into inviting more experts to commentate first - seems to me one need not look much further than these forums and the top 5 in the BPO to find folks who could make a worthy contribution and fill out the commentator ranks.
  12. West for bidding 3H? Guess since south is going to bid game anyway a cue of 4H is cheap and shows some inclination for slam. Can't see how north can be found at fault on this auction.
  13. Little green man sat on my shoulder and whispered in my ear - 4C - intended to suggest I am prepared to play game in your minor pard cause this isnt a splinter (oops if BBO advance includes minis) and I have zippo for hearts and while I am at it I think I will tease opps a little. Was having a good seesion until this board - oh well!!!
  14. It's imps - I be passing here boss - smack it at matchpoints.
  15. 1 heart - length before strength - think the hand is worthy of opening with 11 and a stiff with no hc value in the stiff - I see no rebid issue here.
  16. pass and pass - however my regular pard and I in this situation play a semi-forcing hesitation (it's alertable of course)
  17. As I worked diligently to justify my 1 diamond bid - Double read my mind and said it quickly and succinctly - one other factor for me is that I dont have a rebid problem
  18. While I was playing in main bridge club this morning I was prompted to indicate if I wanted to stay active - what was interesting was I had been playing chatting all the time - did your server think I was playing poorly and was just being subtle?
  19. In the time before land I played 4d as showing 1 ace and so on up to 5c showing zero - whoa thanks for the giggle due to your memory jolt Doc.
  20. I wonder if it is possible to have different language channels for commentary coming off the same table. i.e. open and closed room tables - viewers select the table they wish to watch and then select the language they want the commentary in. The reason I thought about this is not long ago the table I wanted to watch only had commentary in Italiam while the other only English. So in that instance if there were 4 teams of commentators 2 english and 2 Italian both rooms could be covered. I am a technonerd so have no idea about the technology even as it exists. Just curious.
  21. In fact Coke might sponsor the BBO awards especially if the operators introduced each new board with something like - " Board 12 of the TASMANIA OPEN TEAMS CHAMPIONSHIP - this board eligible for players to win the BBO Vugraph Award for best played - sponsored by Coca Cola
  22. Then of course there is the idea of a set of cheap but tasteful BBO beer mugs to be presented at each vugraph event wind-up banquet to the person or pair who bid or played or defended the best on one hand on vugraph as determined by the commentators. Okay 3 sets of cheap beer mugs. Well I guess if you are out of beer mugs then plastic BBO playing cards. No? Alright a case of coke - now there's a history to that.
  23. Much as described in another thread - vugraph operators profiles might be on 'nice to have' list for organizers - you might be surprised at response. Then of course someone has to work on designing the Team BBO shirts for on-site vugraph personnel - available in Sheri's tuck shop for a verrrrry reasonable price.
