Think 5 or 6 is plenty

As a past chair of national championships if someone had handed me a list of recommendations for a first rate event I would have kissed their feet and tried my best to fulfill those recommendations. Hosting an event is a thing of pride - you don't need have to's - just put stuff in their toolbox. I would go so far as to suggest a full blown BBO vugraph manual for tourney organizers that covered in sufficient detail not only nice to do's, but how to do them. It's called working with your business partner's to provider top-notch customer service - customers being the viewers.
-
Thinking about vugraph and my own watching habits - I wondered about a couple of things: 1. Would it be possible or valuable to post brief bios of all the vugraph commentators and operaters on this site in some readily clickable form - when I am watching vugraph I often wonder about the backgrounds of the commentators - it's part of the fun knowing them in a little more detail as they provide their analysis. I was thinking along the lines of their bridge credentials and just a little about them personally like work or any other interesting tidbits - like how many dogs Richie has or how many coks he owes Roland, or where Roland learned to say "Wanna bet?" 2. Similarly a photo gallery of commentators and vugraph operators (both equally important to the event).

uh Roland they already have the package from Fred apparently (chairman mentioned something about a password) spoke with Chairman today - strongly urged him to put you in the loop. Anyway it's a go as far as KCBL is concerned. Anyway I have colunteered to what ever I can to make it happen. mrdct sounds like an offer one can't refuse - may I pass that along to the organizers?
-
ahh the opps are in the auction - whew assumed passes

What does 3c normally show in their system?
-
Geez thought we were supposed to notice but wait to get smacked for not noticing - sigh will I ever get this right?
-
Don't know the organizer just thought it would be fun to take the week off and go do vugraph operation.

is there a plan to do anyting from the 43rd PABF Championships in Seoul? June 24th to July 3rd I think.

Is there a way to bid the grand rationally?

Well seems simple enough if it promises 2 of the top 3 - wasnt sure that was true -

Some nominees if you need more - Mittmouse (both playing under this name are world champs), Kraft (for the better than EOK look :()), Stewball (just cause he's totally cool)
-
I'm guessing lightner and I'm leading a club - dummy's first bid suit. Ready with with "Sp thought x was lightner if it fails"

Are you suggesting something similar to Richard Pavlicek's (sorry unsure of spelling) monthly bidding or play contest? Wherein he posts 6 deals and offers options for bid or play that participants select based on a posted system (for bidding). He alone (I believe) awards points for the responses (max 10) at the end of month he processes all reponses and provides analysis and scores for participants. Its pretty cool and fun and using BBO-adv for this would be alright. Ben, I think participation in anything like that would be extremely high.

I dream about both of us having the moxie to do this as i don't think any bid is unreasonable - X(neg)-p-3d-p-3s(gf)-p-4c-p-5c-p-6d However my money is on this auction - X(neg)-p-3d-p-3s(gf)-p-5d-p-p-p

LOL - typical Soloway quip - my first regional, first event, last round of the event - Soloway and Mike Albert as i remember. I was shaking as I picked up something like xx-akq10xxx-jx-ak in opening seat - opened 1h and pard bid forcing 1nt - without as much as a twitch I bid 3nt personally relieved that pard could play nt - I had some extras after all - must be game. Dummy came down and Soloway said "Nice normal auction" I thanked him sincerely. People are still laughing at me for that.
-
2C here - pretty systematic for me - fill pard in now instead of masterminding the hand - let's see what comes
-
which call is the most logic?

I'm with Mike on this one - think 3h is most obvious for pick up pard - not sure I would enjoy defending 2nt X'd. -
Inverted Minors, a question
shoeless replied to kenberg's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Is that to say then that the responses to the asking bid will be artificial, with the lowest available bid being shortness in the other minor with unbalanced and stiff or void, etc? If so, with GF and 4441 does opener then respond artificially a level higher to indicate shortness, so 4 steps after the ask will be the other minor? 6 steps consecutively available after the asking bid? Sorry this is new to me so just trying to wrap my head around it. Thanks for the help. -

Curious about low middle high low middle high in the appendix to step 1 - can anyone enlighten me as to what that means? -
Totally tongue in cheek - sorry.

I see a new career in the offing - sports psychologist specializing in preparing players to appear on vugraph.
-
Sure it's their legitimate right to ask. However, if appearing on vugraph is clearly a condition of contest then I think the organizer's response is most appropriately "Okay, you forfeit the match." or if in a playoff "Okay, is the team you beat still here? They need to be told they are playing the next round due to your default." Internet vugraph has changed the world of bridge dramatically - on any given day hundreds of viewers watch folks play live. Of course this changes the dimension of the game and some players aren't comfortable with this. They might as well get used to it - because I think it's only going to grow.
