  1. Thread ruined already I shouldn't even give your comment the dignity of a response You should know me well enough by now that your first sentence is an insult I was considering passing 2H Some tables did manage to scrape together 8 tricks but sadly our table only managed 7 tricks However your comment wasnt as dumb as it seems since 2C makes
  2. Hi all One of my worst hands ever when I should not even have bid a double negative to a game force [hv=pc=n&s=st732h9d98652ct83&d=s&v=e&b=3&a=pp2c(GF)p2d(Waiting%2Fnegative)p2h(Forcing to 3H))p3c(Cheaper%20minor)p3hppp]133|200[/hv] Will post partners hand but I would certainly also have opened it 2C
  3. Hi there I bid and played this hand using a basic bot in regular IMP play [hv=https://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer.html?lin=st||pn|thepossum,~~M1297stm,~~M1348rg2,~~M1514r9r|md|4SK94HAK86DAT2CAQ7,S6H752DJ9743CJ952,SAQT873HTDQ865CK4,SJ52HQJ943DKCT863|sv|e|rh||ah|Board%206|mb|P|mb|2N|an|Two%20NT%20opener.%20Could%20have%205M.%20--%202-5%20!C;%202-5%20!D;%202-5%20!H;%202-5%20!S;%2020-2|mb|P|mb|4H!|an|Texas%20--%206+%20!S;%205+%20total%20points%20|mb|P|mb|4S|an|2-5%20!C;%202-5%20!D;%202-5%20!H;%202-5%20!S;%2020-21%20HCP|mb|P|mb|4N|an|Blackwood%20(S)%20--%206+%20!S;%2012+%20total%20points%20|mb|P|mb|5D|an|One%20or%20four%20key%20cards%20--%202-5%20!C;%202-5%20!D;%202-5%20!H;%202-5%20!S;%2020-21%20HCP|mb|P|mb|5N|an|Query%20kings.%20Have%20all%20keycards.%20Does%20not%20promise%20extras%20--%206+%20!S;%20!SQ;%2012+%20total%20points%20|mb|P|mb|6H|an|King%20of%20H%20--%202-5%20!C;%202-5%20!D;%202-5%20!H;%202-5%20!S;%2020-21%20HCP;%20!HK|mb|P|mb|6S|an|Signoff%20--%206+%20!S;%20!SQ;%2012+%20total%20points%20|mb|P|mb|P|mb|P|pc|D4|pc|D6|pc|DK|pc|DA|pc|SK|pc|S6|pc|S3|pc|S2|pc|S4|pc|C9|pc|SA|pc|S5|pc|SQ|pc|SJ|pc|S9|pc|D9|pc|HT|pc|H3|pc|HA|pc|H2|pc|HK|pc|H5|pc|D5|pc|H4|pc|C7|pc|C2|pc|CK|pc|CT|pc|C4|pc|C8|pc|CQ|pc|C5|pc|CA|pc|CJ|pc|D8|pc|C6|pc|D2|pc|D7|pc|DQ|pc|C3|mc|13|]600|400[/hv] I figured I had done ok with 6S+1 along with many other tables but there was one other table using a bot that bid 7S following the exact same auction. I am not posting that table to protect the beneficiary of that bots kindness regards P
  4. Since I don't play jump cue bids and am bored stiff with doubles I would bid 2C and wait to see what happened. We have plenty of time to get where we want to be PS What's a jump cue bid? PPS I am assuming that "both playing SAYC" means both partnerships, not you and your partner; although knowing how tediously restrictive clubs (can be) here I am surprised you would have been allowed to play any other system. It almost doesnt need a comment. Part of the reason I hardly ever frequent clubs is that I found out you are all "expected" to play the same system. That's not how I was brought up playing Bridge PPPS I always thought it was a shame you couldn't ask opps what they think your partner's bid means
  5. Hi I don't very often have many issues with losing connections to GiB. However today everything seemed very slow with many timeouts duirng a 12 board IMP Daylong. I am trying to identify the causes of these issues. Are you aware of any problems at your server end for other people or is the issue possibly somewhere else between me and GiB. More specifically they were HTTP socket errors on Ask requests, and I was using Chrome on Widnows 10 on an HP tablet. I have been having other problems with various things being very slow recently and occasionally used Edge to check but I don't think it related to the hardware, browser or OS - who knows these days regards the Possum
  6. I quite understand the value. But the rest of your post and everyone elses lists of options indicate that trying to understand what it means is quite difficult. (Thakyou for the wonderful list by the way) I just generally take it to mean bid what I have, especially if its something not bid by anyone else yet etc. Its simpler that way :) Or if anyone bids in between and I don't think I have a bid I can pass :) My favourite profile message was someone who said "Double means I want you to bid"
  7. I'm relieved that someone else has similar issues with doubles. As far as I can see some people do it just to keep bidding going. Some don't like responsibility. Every type of double is guesswork What happened to good old simple bid what you have, take responsibility for something and use double for penalties. I have a similar issue of annoyance with disruptive cue bidding
  8. Pass or 5C. I can't decide unless I'm there at the time
  9. I will keep checking. It happens when I switch between apps and come back to BridgeBase. It always logs me off. Maybe something to do with connection maintenance when switching apps. It doesnt kill the app, just logs me off
  10. 4 hearts? More seriously Pass :) PS I don't know how I compare with robots since most of the time I am playing against them but also have one as a partner :)
  11. A very entertaining thread. Thankyou Starting to get a bit Monty Python really I think with the state of analytics and personalised messages the insults could be more direct and highly personal You aren't good enough for our table You talk too much Your conversation is not up to scratch You are too slow You have to be joking, we saw how you squandered that grand yesterday Or to really freak people out. Sorry, not in that jacket Etc I must admit that when combined with the order to Sit! it can be rather hurtful when the order is actually meant for someone else
  12. Unfortunately on my latest Android ( well Oppo, not really Android IMO) the Bridgebase app logs off if you need to switch between apps Is this a known issue It's been a while since I played with Android apps so am not sure if it's a limitation of toolkits, phones, is variants etc
  13. Lets not start again on who the authoritarians are
  14. Just in case anyone is interested I put the hand into a few other good computer bridge programs> I won't name which ones. Two of them came up with a splinter by north or some other kind of encouraging (keep going) kind of bid anyway :)
  15. I don't really feel totally qualified to comment on the USA situation but at a very broad level I don't think you can get much more self-interested white privilege on display than from many "liberals". They hate having their privileged positions and expectations challenged, having to even justify conditions. And they are still generally as white as you can get
  16. I checked a bidding table too and the robot bid 4 spades. I think my basic bot plays at that table too?? I wonder what was going on. A different bot, end of a long day etc
  17. Thx for checking. Was wondering if the double affected things but with that hand. ...
  18. Will check but from memory around half of us had this outcome. Other tables had different non-bot players or different opening bids such as pass If I had a decent weak two I would have raised
  19. It's a basic bot in casual IMP play How about 2NT or is that off after a double. Anything really
  20. Hi all I was under the impression that when bidding weak 2s you left the decision on the contract largely up to responder This is rather sad, even in my book. Using my rather crude use of the losing trick count with 4 trumps and only 5 losers, even in response to a weak two you are in game and even slam territory regards P [hv=https://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer.html?lin=st||pn|thepossum,~~M412yqez,~~M1437pac,~~M1619chp|md|4SKT9862HT96DKCJ92,S4HAK432D953CKQ74,SAQ73H7DQJT862CA5,SJ5HQJ85DA74CT863|sv|n|rh||ah|Board%202|mb|P|mb|2S|an|Weak%20two%20bid%20--%201-4%20!C;%201-3%20!D;%201-3%20!H;%206+%20!S;%2010-%20HCP;%207+%20total%20poin|mb|D|an|3-5%20!C;%203-5%20!D;%203-4%20!H;%202-%20!S;%2013+%20total%20points%20|mb|3S|an|3+%20!S;%203-8%20total%20points%20|mb|P|mb|P|mb|P|pc|S4|pc|SA|pc|S5|pc|S2|pc|SQ|pc|SJ|pc|S6|pc|H2|pc|D2|pc|DA|pc|DK|pc|D3|pc|H8|pc|H9|pc|HK|pc|H7|pc|D9|pc|DQ|pc|D4|pc|H6|pc|DJ|pc|D7|pc|HT|pc|D5|pc|DT|pc|C8|pc|C2|pc|C7|pc|D8|pc|C3|pc|C9|pc|H4|pc|D6|pc|CT|pc|CJ|pc|C4|mc|11|]600|400[/hv] EDIT. I just ran a quick sim and the chance of game was only 80% or so so maybe not suitable for a raise at IMPs. I am, however impressed that it bid 3 though, given that the chance was only around 98% of making it
  21. Dear Pilowsky I think the whole world has been going that way for a long time. It's made worse by the asynchronicity and delays. You never know what is going to popup, when and what is relates to. Its as if the "in your face" people have taken over the world. Its terrible yours the Possum
  22. Just trying to work out the opportunity cost of 1 million posts, much of it, I imagine at a very high rate
  23. I didn't tell you my method for judging bids did I ;) It's strange. Everyone evaluates it as a 3S response but for some unfathomable reason we need to waste an unnecessary round of bidding to get there, allowing for lack of clarity, interference and something to go wrong On this hand you may get heart interference from West. If you are lucky partner will bid clubs then you can bid your 3 spades and get to the same game you would by bidding 3S immediately
  24. Thx Stephen Its definitely not one for 2S because that's where North left some people, despite having a very nice hand. 3S did get to game as does 1NT. I still occasionally debate over the choices available and the 10 HCP boundary, if that is the only criteria people use :) It had an interesting range of scores from game to game-2 with various part scores in between. Some would say that is a borderline hand - but for me especially at IMPs you dont want to miss it EDIT I did just test what happens with 2S and depite North having a nice hand it was passed
  25. Hi all This may not seem the most exciting hand but it is one that often throws up question marks in GiB 2/1 in terms of valuation and choice of a few bids. Nice and simple, not much to it but, would you value this for a 2S,3S or forcing 1NT In terms of points its on the border between 2S and 3S. 3S promises 4+ spades so was ruled out. My personal valuation would have been to bid 3S immediately but ended up bidding the dreaded forcing 1NT which only promises 3+ spades (despite having an 8 card fit). It all worked out, but why waste time messing around with 1NT I don't know what happens if you undervalue it at a 2S bid. I havent tested that [hv=pc=n&s=sa94h54dk763cqj63&d=n&v=b&b=13&a=1sp]133|200[/hv]
