Can someone explain the point of it, especially in GiB land It's like a double negative???. You sign off in 3 and it goes to 4. What's the point Is it to stop you going to 6? The last several times Gib has used it, it is only forcing to 3. So that's what I bid We always end in 4. What is the point? I found the hand. 8 points and a fit oppposite a 2C opening with a major. Why? Why even the 2D let alone the cheaper minor? Maybe it is to stop people getting excited and going to 6. We only made 5 Correction I only made 5. Many people made 4+2 Apologies to GiB. Double dummy only makes 4 I find it sad that anything more than 4 points is regarded as bust opposite 2C. I may be wrong the the expectations of responder are only 1 trick. Not much

Must work on my poker face :-)
thepossum replied to AL78's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Poker faces are difficult and some people notice people trying -
No idea really and have read some of the thread but probably 3 or 4 diamonds for me.

How did everyone and the bots miss hearts. Ran it through other "top" bridge software If EW don't compete straight to 7 hearts (via Blackwood) If EW compete in diamonds its 6 hearts Just bid 2H positive. Why all the other chat If you wouldn't bid 2H positive and explore slam don't ever sit opposite me at a Bridge table Let's hope nobody learns their Bridge on these forums :)

[hv=pc=n&s=shkqt543dk42cqj53&d=s&v=b&b=7&a=1hp1n3s(3-13HCP%207%2B%20S)]133|200[/hv] I reckon its an obvious 4H. What is your plan next time round, assuming opps keep bidding spades EDIT We are playing MPs in a reasonably competitive GiB knowledgeable field and I prefer plus scores and tops

2 hearts? 7 clubs? I know 2 D waiting and see what happens

The bad break is unlucky but etc. This is another victim, anonymised to protect their identity. Is it just me or is the first mention of diamonds being at the 7 level very unusual indeed - bypassing 4,5 and 6. I get the feeling somebody knew about an amusing feature of GiB 2/1

I'm either bidding 6NT or Gerber

It is terrible to have to admit to being fooled by GiB but it happens to us all

Will we often be missing 2 cashing tricks?
thepossum replied to pescetom's topic in Full Disclosure and Dealer
Thx for the thread :) I am interested in another aspect of the 32 point slam scenario If you have all the aces chance of 6NT is around 80% With only three aces its around 70% With only 2 its insignificant chance of that so don't worry about it EDIT Other assumptions was a strong NT (15-17) opening bid -
I had noted the caveat. My comment was for all levels of Bridge I thought we were playing Good-Bad. No its Bad-Good
-
Sounds like a recipe for confusion 😊
-
What was the logic. Too weak for 1 and too strong for 2 or 3 (even 4) Pass
-
How is the USA today? Still there?
-
I'm curious. Does 5NT really always promise the Queen of hearts, can it not also be 4+ hearts. Also its after a waiting bid so I wouldn't expect much Just looked at the hand  I put the hand through other major Bridge software and indeed it was the 2D that threw me
-
One of my least favourite conventions. Usually I come across it when I want to show a 4th suit
-
4NT? - not even sure what it would mean in this auction - if its Blackwood in H that's what I would consider Looking at the spoiler maybe it ........ but being me there is always a chance I would..... but sadly I have already read the thread If I have doubts in the heat of the moment I often stop in .... but I have already read the thread I had a truly bad 0% today due to complete lack of concentration and a brain snap :( ...in fact on the doing something stupid theme. I had two in the same tourney - the other being a psych that pushed the bot to game - exactly the same number of tricks but 0% - almost worthy of a thread too - sorry it should have been 100% - the stupidity was my defence:(

The Official BBO Netflix Movie/Show Referral Thread
thepossum replied to Winstonm's topic in The Water Cooler
The similarities between pre-WWII Earth and today are unsettling. Almost as if it were planned to try again by some interests Let's just say that apparently the gods have it in for us -
I have a rather simple and direct approach to bidding Often it works, if it doesn't you move on to the next hand
-
That's a 2C for me every day. Who knows where we end up Just saw the hands. 6NT perhaps with a bit of luck - EDIT we found 6C with me bidding North and being pushy :(
-
Shouldn't this be in the Argine forum :)
-
I'm confused by the bidding. Well over my head

I was making something of dark joke in relation to certain privately held views about certain scams :) But I could never condone law-breaking. There was a wonderful show about a con regarding selling the Hollywood sign once. I forget what it was called Some of us us see the funny side. I am saying no more What better scam than building some obnoxious barrier, hypothetically and fictionally of course. And there is a very real and philosophical difference between scamming the rich and the ordinary workers They possibly both fit into the same category of more money than sense but I am not going there It appears that those kind of anti-social tendencies have become more dominant in our world Many apparently are legal and will never see a courtroom
