I find many of these discussions about psychopathy miss what I feel is an important element of such which has been on display at a bureaucratic scale for weeks at the Robodebt RC (Australian Ref) They ignore the manipulation and control by people sitting in an anonymous back office somewhere. Bridge seems far too complicated these days I'm just forcing in hearts and seeing if we get past game I would even consider 2C opening and my suit is hearts. What do you reckon partner I can't see getting far past game without getting into trouble However a positive spade allows you to show a fit and who knows 2C-2S-4NT-etc 2C-2S-3H-3S-etc 2C-2S-3H-3NT-4S-etc 2C-2S-3H-3NT-4NT(?)- etc Establish the game force with bid 1 anyway. Then you know you are headed to game at least and most likely a spade slam EDIT Just tried that with basic Acol in Q-plus and ended up in trouble. What is it with partners and jumping straight to the wrong slam However all is not lost 2C-2s-3s WORKS Most other routes end in 5S

I appreciate the cue-bidding, point ranges and control checking are broken in certain circumstances Unfortunately I cannot remember the circumstances during play so rely on pure luck I imagine some look at my 100% and suspect something dodgy at times I was perilously close to not looking closely and throwing the hand in for a 0% Apparently defensive leads also need some work - although I haven't checked why it picked a diamond to my Ace But maybe the West bot has the same assumption of us having all Aces as the North bot It really assumes South has that many hcps EDIT I did run a Sim and it has approximately 1% chance of defeating the slam on any lead other than a diamond, although maybe my constraints were a bit looser than 25 hcps for South. Small chance of an Ace with East

I don't know if this is an accurate perception but with Acol you generally have a clear idea of where you heading by round 2 of the bidding by the latest Maybe its my limitations or peculiarities of certain systems we use from time to time but with Gib 2/1 there have been times close to 5 or 6 level and I still didn't have a clue

I was brought up on very basic Acol. Not much to it from memory Weak (maybe variable) NT, strong 2s (later superseded by weak), 4 card majors. Bid your longest and best suit perhaps. Bid sensibly. Nice clear NT ranges all through. Clear limit bids in suits too. I seem to recall. Very simple, clear and quite logical from memory I think people used to throw in a few other conventions like strong 2C, transfers, Stayman and Blackwood. That's about it

I put one of Argine's much discussed hands in QPlus-Advanced Acol and it bid exactly the same, except that it bid game and didn't pass my 3S So maybe it isn't Acol

Hi I appreciate I may be one of the few who occasionally carelessly starts a Daylong tourney and is booted out on the last hand It's happened more with the Acol since I forget they are on different time zones Any chance of a 5 minute warning :)

Maybe I'm still in grief over the loss of a much loved family GP practice EDIT To clarify I feel so much of the world has become totally impersonal (and worse). I faced it in my own industries and professions, and even withdrew from some, and I see it from the other side (client) too. With that level of individual relationship and ongoing care. Everyone are just commodities or units these days. Widgets. How many did we process today?

My concern in Australia has been the fairly recent change in and growth in different types of practices, clinics etc I hate to sound sceptical and suggest anything remotely unprofessional but I feel they are not all run with a medical ethic in mind. I could be wrong Even a lack of decent business ethics too if I may be so bold.

I don't know either but I opened and Argine said it had a strong hand which I thought could be headed to slam EDIT Just put the hand into my QPlus Demo software (advanced Acol) and it bid 3D and ended in 4S :) My regret is trusting my partner. I should have just bid 4 myself. Maybe I would have ended in 6 but 4 would be sign-off I thought :)

I agree. GiB has enough to answer for itself without having to worry about Argine Plus it might be clearer to new and less informed players that there are two different bots and styles of play

Free Acol MPs, wouldn't have a clue what I am bidding Forcing means forcing and a pass means I throw in my cards I could not care less that 3S+n would have made a half decent score (<50%) The only reason it would have scored ok was that all these other people were victims and some played it out And is it GiB or Argine that did it? I find this issue something of a catch 22 Nobody wants to play with a table of beginners Everyone wants to play with 3 decent players who are very tolerant of their beginner errors

Hi all I had a rather disastrous MP tourney recently. Some of which I could readily put down to my own tiredeness, ambitious or random psychic bids This one, I was not alone. I blamed myself for my almost 0%. When I looked my lead, while maybe being unusual was not the problem Maybe I should have led the Jack but no same problem for someone else to bid like me and actually led the Jack Was finessing the Queen by North the percentage play? I have 5. North has 5 etc I do own most of my bad scores as you know It was a bad tourney. I considered going for all out bottom but I am up against better players I actually went for 0% on another hand where I rather ambitiously misbid (-2300). But no. There was someone much better than me whole stole my 0% If you think I am joking about the quality of my opposition in another tourney where I thought I wasn't doing well an expert after a bad bid by Gib managed to engineer and play 6 bottoms in a row. Yes anyone with a basic understanding of anything can teach it/anything and maybe be better than those who overcomplicate something nice and simple and fun I have no doubt there are tendencies in the world would love to stop us teaching each other fun card games. Get a certification etc Some of us do occasionally like to supplement our knowledge a nd skills by searching out information from accepted expert players, especially on web sites and forums and books Here's this fun game. I read the rules in a book and tried it a few times. I have a pack of cards. Want to play too? I have been using Larry's (example) set of very simple conventions to keep it easy at first (EDIT Maybe you need 12 but I think its broken into 4s)

Many of us connected through many circles and in different ways are we not I am just trying to get a message out. Others have reported similar issues. There are those involved with the technicalities of BBO and their apps and servers who may actually find it useful to know too There are those who are involved at all levels of our internet and communications and devices and software who may also occasionally like to hear stuff and not ignore issues, and silence those who raise issues in an informed way

I have raised these UI issues before. It seriously affects the interface and makes it unplayable sometimes. Who knows where the problem lies. The events have been proven to get to servers If there is so unpredictability in a UI you will occasionally be distracted or click on the wrong card which would not have occurred otherwise. It's particularly annoying when it results in 0% enough to cost 25 BB cents in a reward tourney. I do own most of my zeroes There are many technology minded people here who may know where that problem could lie between me and BBO

Which is why so many of us pay to play with a fairly average level robot which is ordinary company at best On a serious note and with complete respect I am struggling to find a new doctor after the retirement of my previous long term doctor Without wanting to speak out of turn it may be generational but it appears there is more of a tendency to push unnecessary services and drugs onto us. I actually try to avoid most now, rather than going for a regular friendly non interventionist check up
