  1. Fred, This is almost a quantum leap in terms of richness and flow. I actually have it running inside a VirtualBox VM without a hitch. I'll try it tonight in my VM of Server 2008 Beta 3 for smiles and giggles once it finishes installing.
  2. I'm not going to adhere to it, because it isn't going to happen. My loved ones would riot if they found out about it.
  3. I bid 2♣ without any form of good/bad 2NT in the arsenal. It doesn't hang partner's bad dummy.
  4. For me, the way I made Life Master was exactly what I would script - needing to win the 8th match of a midday Swiss to get 1st in C and 2nd in B to go over the top by at least 16 VP's, and blitzing the opps. I floated for days, and I still smile when I think about it.
  5. I double, since it's likely penalty (the 70/30 principle I use - 70% penalty, 30% takeout).
  6. I agree with gwnn; I think the expert is attempting to find the one way to set the contract: via confusion.
  7. It's Pi Day again? Wow. I still like the 22/7 approximation of it. Or if memory serves, 355/113.
  8. If I open 1m playing 15-17, I'll be happy to table this hand for partner's major. Playing 14-16 I likely open 1NT for consistency reasons.
  9. Happy Birthday bud - <breaks open a beer>.
  10. I feel if I'm leading my club that I'm making a mistake, but that's my lead.
  11. Why wouldn't it surprise me that the ACBL has it wrong when it comes to conventional use? :D In all seriousness, Larry and I had a very lengthy discussion about this topic before the Nashville NABC before deciding to implement them. The wording of the restriction is not clear at all.
  12. Han, Dare I say, epic.
  13. Phil, I frankly want to barf over the self-promotion admittedly.
  14. My take is a simple one: I'm investing in popcorn stocks to watch the drama unfold.
  15. Justin, Yes, it's real. It caused a spirited discussion. Under the old scheme this was never an issue because 1H-2S was a different call. Admittedly, there is much argument for playing 1H-2S as a weak jump shift to begin resolution of this issue (and other parallel actions). Adam, For clarification, we play 1M-2M-2M+1 as a generic game try ask (along the lines of Nagy game tries), and we often will raise on three cards to an honor. We open all 10's that are 4-5's with shortage and all 11's. I'm starting to reconsider using the current definition we have of KI, and view other alternatives.
  16. As nuts as I am about getting to game, I'm swiftly passing in tempo. Pard is not going to have coverage.
  17. Arend, The aim of the question is to determine if 2S is analogous to the impossible negative when promising spades to show a good raise in the canape. Since the changes implemented after Nashville, we've had this issue not appear before. Additionally, since he may only hold 4 spades for the 1NT call, I'm trying to see if there's a way to have our cake and eat it too. For the record, tonight I think I'm playing a crazy foreign system called SAYC at the Unit Game... :D
  18. Ditto the well-reasoned Phil. I want to hurt them badly.
  19. Here's a hand during bidding practice that caused some troubles for us. AKJxxx Qxx xx xx And you hear me open 1H, playing 4 card majors and canape. You use Kaplan Inversion, so you trot out 1NT, and then see me rebid 2D, canape, so I have longer diamonds than hearts. What's 2S? For the record, 1H-2S with us is either a spade g/f or a 3-5-x-x g/f raise. Thanks in advance.
  20. 1. J♠. Caters to Justin's holdings. 2. I lead a spade here regardless of scoring. 3. I table a heart here. They have no spade issue by implication.
  21. I used to play 3S puppeting to 3NT and the direct 3NT being both majors. I enjoyed it immensely - the ability to uncork minor slam tries was excellent.
  22. At the time this hand came up, I was the club bidder. I wasn't quite sure if it was forcing or drop-dead, because this was uncertain territory with my pard (occasional p'ship). I took another call with 1-3-3-6 shape (I bid my AKQ diamond fragment). In an established p'ship, it would be much clearer I feel.
  23. Let's say you're not playing anything exotic in terms of Reverse Flannery, 2D as 3rd suit forcing, or such. You hear this auction: 1♣ - 1♠ 2♣ - 2♥ 2♥ forcing, invitational, or drop dead?
  24. I used to use it, but it got to the point where I use the alert card and not the skip card anymore.
