  1. Reverse is FORCING, Phil. Differences between 2♣ and reverse are as following, imho: 1) 2♣ opening forces to 3M or 4m even if responder has nothing. That is, responder has to respond twice withh minimum of 0 hcp. 2) With a one-level opening, responder can pass. Since responder has something to respond, reverse is forcing one more round. That is, if you can respond (minimum of 5 hcp or so) once, you have to bid again if partner reverses. I orginally voted for forcing. Upon reflection, I changed my mind. (It is very rare to stop at 1M, isn't it?). With dead mimimum, 3=4=5=1 (or 3=4=4=2), I would rather to pass. Well, if opps find their play, so be it. They would not pass my 1NT anyway, if my partner doesn't have a strong hand. I would raise to 2M with 4-card or 3 good support, of course.
  2. You got to show your support for partner's opening suit with Qx. I would pull pd's reopen-dbl to 2H and compete 3♦ over 3♣. Or, if you pull pd's reopen-dbl to 2D, then u need to compete to 3H over 3C, in which case, pd had to correct to 4D if (s)he has 4-card ♦ and 5-card ♥ only. In this regard, 2♥ over pd's reopen-dbl is then 2D, for later competition. Also, to pull pd's dbl to 2D and rebid 3D is too much with such a weak 5-card suit.
  3. Yes, fly is correct jimmy. You MUST not leave a reopening double in with this hand. Bid 2♥ or if you want, 2♦... but don't pass. I would bid 2♥, don't like my ♦. Leave the reopen-dbl in? Too weak (♠ and overall hand) to do that.
  4. Double finesse ♥. 2nd trump to dummy and play a ♥ back to 9. Assume it losses to ♥J. If West returns a trump, win in dummy and continue ♥ finesse. Draw trumps and cashes ♦ winners and ♥A. If ♥K doesn't drop, you have to determine to finesse ♣ or drop. If West returns a ♣, win with ♣A and continue the ♥ finesse. If ♠ breaks, you may ruff a ♥ in dummy and ... claims.
  5. Double with Lebensohl, 3H without.
  6. I wonder why nobody voted for a Heart discard. By discarding a heart, you keep all option open. By discarding a diamond, there is no triple squeeze anymore.
  7. I was playing with a pick-up partner. Well, not really, we had played a few hundreds of boards. I kind of knew that he would under-bid a little for this kind of auction. So I decided to try again. We didn't have much convention.
  8. Luke, You got exactly what I had: ♠AK9x, ♥Tx, ♦KJx, ♣KT9x. Afraid of 3 support was exactly my concern, I told my partner after we finished this hand. My partner bid 3NT with that holding. We were cold on 4S, but set by 2 tricks on 3NT. I told my partner I would never bid 3NT with stiff on the only unbid suit. He argued that my 2NT meant weak in ♠ and AKJ in D and probably with 4=1=3=5 distribution.
  9. [hv=d=n&s=sqxxxhkqxxxdxcqjx]133|100|Scoring: IMP Partner opens 1♣: North East South West 1♣ pass 1♥ pass 1♠ pass 2♠ pass 2NT pass ? [/hv] What kind of hands partner has when he bids 2NT? What would you bid as North?
  10. that's what I think, too.
  11. 1S=X=p=3H: invitational; 1S=X=P=2S, game forcing (opening value). 1S=x=P=2H, could be nothing.
  12. ♦A and 5th ♥ are the good extras, I voted for 4♥. Doubleton in ♠ is a drawback, doubleton in ♣ is not. Partner should have something in ♣ for the Double.
  13. I am happy to pass since pd dbled. I would expect at least one D or/and C loser.
  14. Go for squeeze. Cash CA and run all the red cards....
  15. I am alone, too, with my 5C. Don't be sad.
  16. I will bid up to 4S, though it could be overbid. Between 3N (splinter) and 2H, I choose 2H, telling pd where my strength is.
  17. I am for Splinter, telling pd to devaluate honors in D. I may bid 5D again, announcing a void.
  18. This is NOT the one. Holding this, I would try a slam. 3NT should guarantees 2 stoppers in ♠, 2-4-3-3 (or something like this) and honors in both minors.
  19. I voted for 4S. If 4NT is on the list, I would vote for it. I didn't want to vote for "Other", because it is too broad.
