  1. If the field plays weak notrumph they will be probably in 1nt, 2h, 2nt or 4h. 1s - 1nt / p 1s - 1nt / 2nt - pass 1s - 1nt / 2nt - 3h / 4h 1c - 1h / 1nt - 2h=inv (via some convention) / pass or 4h From this point of view I don't want to play in 3h. What about 3nt?
  2. - Penalty double over 1nt opening (vs. strong NT with good suit) - Natural 1d - No multi - 1M - 2c with all balanced GF hands (even with fit) and then 2d negative without other major - 1s - 2d with heards
  3. Very depends on system you play. Playing weak nt or or opening balanced hands via 1♣, my 2M bid always shows 4 because I can always rebid 2♦ having 5. Mimimum hand for 3M is when I want to play 3nt against minimum partner with stopper in clubs and without fit.
  4. It seems obvious to me that 3♦ shows extras if I don't have other agreement. But I see other questions: - What's 2nt here? Is it invitational? I don't think so. Because in my style double is takeout but with partner's possible (and probable) pass in mind. I think would always prefer double over 2nt. Is it good/bad? Looks like a good position for playing it. But I will never use it without a good agreement. Scramble? Why I didn't double again? Or competitive? Can be the best place to play but in my system 1nt doesn't show full stopper. xxxx or Jxx is enough. How do you understand to 2nt with pick up advanced partner? - If I play ELC I can have hand with 6 or even 7 ♦ and no extras. Five isn't probably enough but I want to cempete with 6. Do you have an agreement if you play ELC? - If I pass, is double from 1nt bidder takeout or penalty? Sorry, my english is not perfect B)
  5. Do you all bid over 3nt when partner showed 23-24 bal in MP?
  6. 1♥-(2♦)-3♠ 4♠-5♥ 6♥-p :P
  8. I agree with 5♦. It's your advantage that opps opened multi not normal weak two. Your LHO must guess which suit opener has. e.g with ♠5♥3♦4♣1 he can bid 3♥ over 3♦ and if opener has spades he will compete with 5♠ over 5♦. But it's too dangerous bid 5♥ over 5♦ in first round. I think that 5♦ is very descriptive. 3♦ bid shows some values for defence. I will be in bad position if partner doubles their contract.
  9. My idea is to give only one diamond and only two trumphs. It needs some kind of endplay in trumphs in the end: e.g. W: QJ853 + one card S: AKT97x Play trumph ten now, west takes, returns his sixth card I ruff and play 9. So the first plan is take with an ace (discard diamond), ruff heard, cross in spades, ruff heard, cross in diamonds. Now I try to count opps' hands and make up something clever.
  10. 2♣ - 4th suit forcing I show invitional values, ask about 5♥ and club stopper. WTP?
  11. I agree. I wrote that with 4card support I would invite via normal 2nt or cuebid. But with only three card support I don't often want to compete at third level. e.g. With my example hand I like to double. This was the first thing I though about. I must agree that with most hands I would bid over 2♠. If I do so, I will be in same contract as if I hadn't this convention (maybe in better because I can show my hand more precisely). I gain if partner responds 2♥ or 2♦ (after 2♣ overcall). If partner repeats spades he has often six of them (after club overcall it's almost sure) and third level is more reasonable. Another reason for this convention can be that I like bid 2♠ with pretty weak hands (Kxx x xxxxx xxxx). 3-9 is a wide interval and bidding some 8-9 counts via dbl. can help. btw With passed hand normal double in this position shows from 99% 4♥ and emergency fit for spades. I'm mainly interested if you see some disadvantages in it? And do you think that the disadvantages I found are serious? thanks for your replies
  12. I think that 5card major system is better for novice. Everybody understand, when you say: For 1♥ or 1♠ you need 5 in that suit. If you don't, open better minor. It makes bidding easier in later rounds, which aren't on the paper. But minibridge is probably best: Step 1. Everybody says, how much HCP has. The side which has the majority HCP playes the contract: 20-23HCP 1nt 23-25HCP 2nt 26-28HCP 3nt and so on.. Weaker cards are put on the table and then fist lead is made. Step 2. Suit conracts. Before defender leads you can choose trumph suit. (dummy is known before the lead. Step 3. 20-23HCP 1nt or 2M or 3m 24-25HCP 2nt or 3M or 4m 26+HCP 3nt or 4M or 5m You can say six or seven if you think you make it. Step 4. Say them how to count results. They can choose any contract. Who will have more points at the end? Step 5 Bidding system.
  13. Last night I got this hand: ♠Qxx ♥xx ♦Qxxxx ♣AKJ. I passed in first seat (if you don't agree you I didn't have ♣J  ). At third partner opened 1♠. We play drury so the opening can be subminimum. RHO overcalled 2♦. I was thinking about pass but vul against not 2♦x doesn't seem to be a winner. 2♠ is a big underbid but if partner has subminimum opening we can be too high after 2NT(3♦). --- My idea is to play double here as normal takeout or drury type hand. If parner bids 2♥, my 2♠ show 9-11 and 3card support. With 4 spades I would bid normal 2NT(3♦). If partner bids 2♠ I can pass (dbl. already showed some values) or bid 3♠ if my hand is really nice (or I can use also other 3level bids to be more precise). I can see three disadvantages: -It doesn't show a fit immediatly. It can be critical, when opps preemt. But the fit is only 3card so it tends to show balanced hand. -1♠-(2♣)-dbl-(p) / 2♦ - (p) - ? and 2-4-3-4 hand. You must bid 2♥ (which normaly shows 5bad heards) because 2♠ is drury type hand. -it can't be used after 1♥ opening so the agreements become a little bit nonsymetric What do you think about it?
  14. 1♣-1♥/3nt shows hand like QJx x AKQJxxx KQ. It's just a practical bid, gambling - 3nt has a lot of chances. Showing running suit is just a side effect. Partner will normaly have some semibalanced not very strong hand. With hand shown I would bid 4♦ (natural, no agreement). Possible continuations: ..4♦ / 4♥ - 7nt. ..4♦ / 4♠ - 5♣ / 5♦ - 5♠ / ... ..4♦ / 4♠ - 5♣ / 6♦ - 7♦. ..4♦ / 5♣ - 6♦ / 7♦. ..4♦ / 5♦ - 6♦. ...
  15. 4♦ ask shortness and if partner responds spades 4nt which ask length. If partner has ideal hand (short spades and 8♦) and didn't forget this never used convention I will find nice 6♦ which goes down because neither finesse works:)
  16. My agreement is dbl takeout up to 2♥, lebensohl and unusual vs. unusual. It means: Over 2♣ dbl is take out. You can call it stayman (asks for major) or penalty oriented if 2♣ wasn't natural (they have major, I have major). 2♣ rarely shows known suit other then clubs. So new suit is natural, lebensohl on. Over 2♦ it's very similar. Ovecalls in major are from 99% natural (it can show side suit, but the major is know). Double is takeout over 2♥, penalty over 2♠. Other is natural and 2nt is lebensohl (c-b is stayman). If two suits are known, it's very easy. Their lower suit is lower unbid suit. Their higher suit is higher unbid suit. Both inv+. Unbid suits are NF and competitive.
  17. I would bid 3♣ here but I prefer 2♥ when it's one round force only...
  18. It's possible, I wasn't there... :( I have it from Czech bridge magazine.
  19. Looks like text-book 3♦ opening - 6-10HCP, 7diamonds, two top honours, no side ace, no 4card major, ... Now I'm unable to show what I have - 2♦ is underbid (we can have 7 quick tricks in diamonds), 3♦ is overbid and support redouble is strange.
  20. [hv=n=saj2hd432c&w=sq98hakqdc&e=shdakqcakq&s=skt43hdc32]399|300|Lead is in south.[/hv] Spades are trumphs, play for 5 tricks! (I hope you don't know it :D )
  21. 2nt-3♦ p or 2nt-3♠ 4♠-p 2nt is 5-5 minors and we play it solid (8-13).
  22. All you need is to establish diamonds as trumphs and then use RKCB. Polish club: 2♣-(p)-3♦-3♥ ???-(p) - 4NT - (p) 7♦-(p)-7NT - p... Standard: 1♣-(p)-2♦-x♥ ???-(p) - 4NT - (p) 7♦-(p)-7NT - p... I don't know what I bid with opener's hand. It doesn't matter. I bid 7♦ with 3aces because if I bid normal 0/3 (5♦) partner will probably pass it.
  23. I agree. You are not in such a bad situation. Your aim is 2Mx, 3nt or 5m. I´m not very afraid of missing major contract. dbl. 13+ balanced, often passed out, lebensohl on 2♠ short heards (takeout of natural 2♥), 12+, lebensohl on 2nt short spades, 14+ 3m solid overcall 3M asks stoper 3nt to play 4m 5-5 m+M 4nt 5-5 m's with short spades and 12-13 you can pass and reopen with double if they correct to spades With 6 good cards in major you bid 2♠/2nt and shows your suit naturaly next round. At reopen is bidding natural.
  24. 1. I don't agree with 2♥. The reason is here. 2. redbl.
