  1. This was my hand. Adam wasn't playing. I bid 5H. My partner bid 6H. Doubled down 2. I don't pay attention when partner declares, but I believe that we were missing the KQTx of hearts. I can try to find out his hand, but I doubt that he'll remember.
  2. The link that csgibson gave does not quite work (it has an extra http in the link form). If you copy and paste, it should work. Or try this
  3. I don't know if it matters, but my honors in clubs were AJ I believe, not KQ.
  4. I thought civil unions were state-by-state. On a different note, I heard one of the pro-Prop 8 ads on the radio claiming that churches would lose their tax exempt status if they refused to marry same-sex couples. I'm sure that the drivers around me thought I was insane because I started yelling at the radio. That ad defied all possible logic. Besides the argument KenBerg made, churches are not required to marry, say, Adam and I, and we're legally allowed to marry. If they don't lose their tax-exempt status for refusing to marry us, why should they lose their tax-exempt status for refusing to marry same-sex couples?

    Go Rays!

Hmm, I bet the pitching coach does. Try again.

    Go Rays!

The manager of a baseball team does not tell the pitcher which pitch to throw at which batter. The manager does not tell a batter how to anticipate what the pitcher is going to do. (The batter can be told where to try to bat, and whether to bunt, etc...) Yes, the manager does a lot of the planning, but it's up to the players how they execute. And besides athleticism it takes strength of mind to succeed.

    Go Rays!

It's hard to imagine for an european. From our view it is a game where in 90% of the real play time nothing happens. :) Robert right. so why do europeans care about things like golf and cricket... and... omg, bridge?! A better game to mention might be soccer. To someone who doesn't understand the game, it seems like a bunch of guys kicking the ball around, and nothing really happens. But to someone who does, the strategy and skill involved is wonderful. That is the same point of view I have about baseball.
  8. So is Thursday a day off for Yom Kippur or is that coincidental?
  9. if you have tickets for tomorrow, root for the dodgers today. nothing like a close-out game atmosphere. If the Dodgers win today, there won't be a game tomorrow to go to.
  10. We have tickets to tomorrow's game. I don't know whether to root for the Dodgers or Cubs tonight.

Isn't that only true if the x_i's are positive?
  12. Translation for non-native speakers? An actual vise is a tool that is used to clamp something down to a workbench. It's not something pleasant to have one's genitals caught in it. See also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vise_(tool)
  13. Also, has anyone decided on how many boards? And is it going to be timed? I'm one of the Californians, but strangely enough, moving it earlier makes it more possible for me to play, but I'm not sure. I doubt Adam's going to be playing, but we'll see.
  14. Don't forget that there was a problem last time with having double !'s name in the middle of the list, but it was solved by putting him last, I believe.
  15. There's also inverted psycho suction, which I suspect is only played because people like the name. Psycho suction is better to play. Another part of suction that has not been mentioned is NT= pointies or rounds. (Is this standard in suction?)
  16. As I said, it may well vary depending on where you are. I'm in District 4, Unit 112, and I've never seen Midchart at either a sectional or a regional. I don't play in the top brackets, so that may be part of it. What district are you in? Your Lancaster, PA regional (I found the flyer off the district 4 webpage): http://web2.acbl.org/tournaments/Ads/2008/11/0811000.pdf It says flight A and top bracket KOs are midchart. Some "King of Prussia" regional that already happened (found off of your unit page): http://web2.acbl.org/tournaments/Ads/2008/06/0806060.pdf It says flight A and top bracket KOs are midchart. Granted, your sectionals don't have anything listed either way, but maybe that's a function of your unit. They seem to only have stratified games, and not stratiflighted games, and that may explain why they don't have midchart games.
  17. What's wrong with you Matt, you're posting something that's not a complaint?!? Do we have to send the ambulance over (because you're that feverish)? B)

I don't know why everyone thinks that East was joking. Maybe they play strong 2's, and East missed the 1♥ bid. Not likely, I realize, but possible. I completely agree that West should have said something at the end of the auction. I also think that North should either call the director, or not say anything.
  19. 1) Take-out (Short hearts, partner CAN leave it in if he has hearts, but doesn't on most hands). 2) Willingness to compete if partner has hearts. (Same principle if they bid 2c or 2d, too.) 3) Take-out
  20. I would think that if you had an umbrella, though, you were better off walking.
  21. I bid 2H with my hand. My partner held xx x QT98xx T98x. He passed 2H. The other table got to a making 5D after a 1C opening.
  22. Or you can start a table, and reserve seats for them. They then can join your table.
  23. No discussions of whether pass was forcing. I included pass for those who would like to gamble whether it is forcing or not.
  24. No, I had nothing to do with it.
