  1. It might not be a good idea to post hands from STaCs while people may still be playing them (and they are on the West Coast). I am not saying that people would purposely cheat, but if someone had a sit-out and an iPhone and was bored, and couldn't tell by your title that they shouldn't look...

  3. Looks great on my (older) iphone! I didn't even have to enlarge it to read, just held the phone sideways. I too love my iPhone.
  4. Best show ever! I recommend subtitles for non-native English speakers. And for some native ones. I wasn't as excited with season 1, my favorite is season 4. I'm a teacher, btw.
  5. You should see a box in the top left hand side of BBO. It says what type of game (matchpoints/IMPS/etc.) and what board number. Around that box is the vulnerability (top+bottom = NS; left+right = EW). Another way to see is around the bidding table. Where it lists the names. If you and your partner are in red, you're vulnerable, same for your opponents.
  6. "Make's no sense" is surely an overstatement. On a hand with ♥ support that doesn't want to play in game opposite a purely invitational hand, you make a waiting bid of 2♠, partner makes his proposed follow up, and you now show your ♥ support. Since you have two ways of getting to 3♥, you can use them to show different strengths. It might not be perfect, but what simple system is going to be perfect? If I open 1♠, pard responds 2♥, and I want to be in game facing a minimum, what to do ? Bid 4♥. Don't want to be in game facing a minimum ? Bid 3♥. Don't have ♥ support ? Bid ♠, NT, or a minor. Can't see any gain to a 'waiting' 2♠. The "gain" is that you're actually playing the system.
  7. i sort of feel like there is a culture of viewing psychs as unsportsmanlike... it's total BS, but still. I think that the question is when is it an actual psych and when is it an illicit partnership agreement. And yes, that does seem like a process for the recorder, but the recorder process is not something that your average person knows about, so it may seem to them that pair AB get to "get away" with having secret agreements with no consequences, because they don't know that the director has investigated by speaking to the pair. Or that a recorder form will last further longer than that day.
  8. Oh, that it's a different ethnicity doesn't stop JK, it's that she doesn't usually do folk-songy type songs. Neither does gender. Also, those lyrics don't appear in the song. :(
  9. "Wooden Wedding" I've heard it sung by Janet Klein. And it doesn't seem to be the same one that Ken posted.
  10. Adam suggested that it meant the fifth wedding anniversary. But that didn't seem to fit, because the song seemed to relate to an actual WEDDING, not an anniversary of a wedding. Maybe I need to listen to it, but I don't think that I can write the lyrics because I bet that they are copywrited.
  11. Yea, I saw that too, but I didn't think that it answered my question. From the description of the movie, the song doesn't fit it. Plus, that was from 1925, and thus did not HAVE songs in it.
  12. I heard this in a song, and I was wondering what it meant. I tried googling it, and I couldn't find it. My guess from what I found is that it should mean something hollow (and so a bad connotation) but the song is pretty excited about having a wooden wedding. I don't know when the song was written. Likely somewhere between 1910-1940 (as the singer's tagline is songs from the 10's, 20's, and 30's).
  13. Really, which countries then? US, Germany, Israel
  14. Which category did I fit in? I'm a US citizen, a european citizen, and an other citizen
  15. ACBL allows split scores, just not weighted between them. So you can give one side one score, and another a different score, but you can't do percentages of one score or another. You can look at NABC casebooks for evidence of split scores. Usually directors don't like to give them, especially at clubs, because "it confuses the players". Or they don't know how to input them to ACBLscore. Also, I've seen directors mess up the criterion for how to decide which score each pair gets, and it's different for the offending side vs. nonoffending side. I don't have the rule book in front of me to quote from, though. But I agree that if a result was reached at a table (so the board was deemed playable) that A+/A- does not seem to be an acceptable result. From my memory of the laws it's illegal, but I'd have to look that up to be sure. And looking at the next post, I guess that's changed.
  16. I don't see that anyone was trying to say that it was a claim unless you're referring to me. I was just pointing out the relevant laws in the rulebook that I have, but that was as helpful as I felt like being. If I were the director, I would have ruled as all seem to say: declarer can pick up her cards, all the more power to the defense. Declarer is also already probably shaken, and that gives them a huge advantage.
  17. At least you have company! I'm still alone in my quadrant. :(
  18. If the opening lead was by the wrong player, then the ruling is that declarer has chosen to lay her hand on the table and be dummy. This is a pretty standard ruling, so my guess is that the opening lead was made by the correct leader. I think that one would have to chose between two parts of Law 48: A: B2: I would note that B2 says "may be deemed", and is not a requirement.
  19. Law41C: (I added the emphasis). So one can always find out what the contract is, but can't find out the whole auction after you've played to the first trick. But I agree with you completely about your observations about online bridge. We already have the venue set up that some of the laws are broken. Another example is that you can see the last trick played even if you play to the next trick. I don't see anyone posting complaining about that.
  20. Not me, I seem to not have had a candidate. :) Even looking at the international chart on the bottom of where they give your results, my quadrant seems sadly empty. :(
  21. It's perfectly legal to write down the opening lead as it's being made. It's also legal to jot down the auction in your score card as you're writing the contract. It's just illegal to look at it after you've played to the first trick. The ACT of writing this stuff down is not a memory aid, REFERRING TO IT is the memory aid.
  22. I don't know how they judge some of those things. I mean, say you have the statement "I think people talk about cats too much". And you have to agree/disagree etc. Since I have NO idea how that would be related to economics, I have to assume it's related to authoritarian/libertarian. But the question seems to imply that you then would make the leap to say "I think people talk about cats too much and we should ban that". And I have no idea how one reacts to astrology affects how authoritarian/libertarian you are. There were several other questions that just seemed wierd. I don't want to post them in case others want to go in with an open mind. Anyway, I have: Economic: 1.62 Social Issues: -1.59
  23. How about 1 and 6? So that covers no one vul, and then both ways that you are vul.
  24. Star Trek IV starred humpback whales. I don't remember if the killer whales survived 'til that time, but I do know that they returned with humpback whales.
