  1. QUOTE (pork rind @ Apr 16 2008, 03:42 PM) just lead the 8 of clubs and run it if not covered. rho is endplayed Yes, this will definitely hold it to -1. explain pclayton
  2. just lead the 8 of clubs and run it if not covered. rho is endplayed
  3. ;) just a curious question for the 2c bidders. if part had responded 1s, what would you bid?? its all hand evaluation i think fwiw it is always a 3c bid for me and a pass from south.
  4. :( i dont think walid would lead low from nothing and he cant have more than 6 pts max. but declarer prob has 4 spades so it will take 2 leads thru him if part has kj or so(ie declarer may have q 9 xx. so lead back 10 of spades and hope part reads it for a heart side entry. tom
  5. ;) david owens writes a regular column in GOLF Mag. glad to see he plays bridge.
  6. :P i like the analogy also, but then i live in the south where we believe in courtesy. and if you are not courteous then we get in your face. :)
  7. B) like most i usually wind up playing cap against weak nt. what do you find is better defense.
  8. :) the problem with 3nt is that it gives up on slam. 4d, 4h, 4n, and 5d still retains a change of getting to slam. partner could have a pretty good hand here.
  9. i think 3nt is a really bad bid. on 4h my partner may not know what i have till the next bid but he or she will know then. tom
  10. in a pickup game i have to bid 5d. in a regular partnership i bid 4h and pull 4s or 5c to 5d. i play this the same way as a lower level x as showing a strong 1 suited hand. tom B)
  11. i was wondering if anyone has used this to play bridge on bbo. i did not see a download for linux. just curious free tom
  12. my apologies to all. i should not post when drinking :D
  13. :P this was a pretty strong game so i should have pointed out that there is virtually no change of the k of diamonds being underled. i made the hand by rising with the a of hearts, laying down the a of spades ( i seem to remember that with 3 out u have 48 percent or so of the k being single). when the k of spades doesnt fall i finessed the h and pitched a d. i wondered if combining the a of spades play and the h finesse increased your odds. not that i play by odds. but i was curious. tom :)
  14. [hv=n=sxxxhaqxxdaxckxxx&s=saqj10xxxhxdqxc1098]133|200|contract 4 S opening lead jD which line offers the best odds on making 4S. opps silent thruout[/hv]
  15. :P partner said she thought we would beat 3nt . i like the 4h bid myself tom
  16. :P thanx for the thoughful reply, codo. part and i had discussed the points you made, but had some disagreement over what i should have led(not serious). she felt i should have led a heart. tom
  17. :) [hv=d=s&v=e&n=sqxxxhaxxxdqxxcxx&w=sxhqjxdaj10xxxcakj&e=skxhxxxdkcq10xxxxx&s=saj109xxhkxxdxxxcx]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] of course i was south and opened 2d (multi). west overcalled 3d natural partner passed and after a long huddle east bid 3nt. if i lead a heart of course its down, but im not psychic. i led a spade and 630. would u bid 3nt??? is there a case for my leading a heart
  18. ;) WIN CLUB ACE, LEAD DIAMOND 10. (PROB THIS IS DUCKED TO LHO, BUT DOESNT MATTER) IS RHO OPP WINS AND LEADS A HEART LET IT RUN. WIN RETURN IN HAND AND RUFF A DIAMOND. LOW CLUB TO HAND AND LEAD SPADE PLANNING TO FINESSE THE QUEEN(UNLESS SPADES ARE KJ DOUBLETON IN LHO YOU WILL LOSE A SPADE NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO SO IT DOESNT MATTER WHETHER THE FINESSE WINS OR LOSES) WIN RETURN AND CASH THE A OF SPADES. LEAD HIGH CLUBS EITHER PITCHING HEART OR DIAMONDS DEPENDING ON WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE HEART AT TRICK 3(MAYBE). LOSE 1S, 1H, AND 1D (OR 2D AND NO HEART).
