Hi folks. I have played bridge for severel years now but, believe it or not, never ever played any kind of strong clubsystem. So my target this year is to really learn how to play that and then I need help. First question. I really like to play with Acol 2 openings when it comes to suited hands. How does mp count rhymes with precision? Is it possible to have 2♥ and 2♠ as strong opening with less than 14 mp even tho you are playing with strong ♣? There could be, and often will, times when you have hands that does not have more than 14-15 hp, but have 13 mp for example. Next question. Is there any nice soul out there who would like to practice a bit with me and learn me the basics. I was thinking of a couple hours at a bidding table with lots of questions. I know there are free clubs on bbo, but my schedule does not fit those lessons. I really don't looking for a partner or something like that, just someone who could spare a couple of hours with me so I can get started. If you are interested, pls message me here or at BBO.

BBO is great. I have the possibility to play great bridge, join fancy clubs, watch world class players play, get live coverage from Bermuda Bowl with expert commentary, read great colums, try to solve almost impossible double dummy, follow catfights, not to mention all wonderful friends I have met. And it is all free! I still can't believe that all this is for free. Horray for freebies. But one day, not long ago in a galaxy far far away, Fred G and Uday came up with BBO Dollar. My first thought was; great, finally I can give something back. But all I find there is bridgedeals that is connected to BridgeBase. And of course it should be there. It is your product, and to earn money on it, you need to sell those kind of products. I fully understand that. But it is not for me. I am sitting at computers all day long and trying to earn some salary. When I use the computer at my spare time I am doing it for play bridge with my friends. If I wanted to learn bridge, and gee I really do, I want to read it in a book. Yes, I am one of those who still prefer to read books instead of sitting in front of a screen. Having the puter in bed is not an option, my genitals is not build to handle computers on it, not to mention how heavy my screen is. I do see the advantages of having learning program instead of having it in a book. You can play and try by yourself, you don't need a deck to lay the diagrams and so on. However, a book is still a book and I prefer those. So what is my point? I am wondering if you are going to sell books in the future? If so I would gladly spend a lot of money on them. I am really looking forward to get a copy of the forthcoming bestseller "BBO Behind the scenes". Where we will get a bbography of the start of the bbo. And where we will be served with newsbreaking facts from the bbo database. Imagine what interesting data Fred, Sheri and Uday has! Here are some example I would die to have information of. Player with worst connection Player with most nicknames The stupid question ever said by a player to BBO. Wait a minute, maybe not that one, could be one of mine actually. Which player who bid most slams Which player who misplayed most slams Which player who has been registered shortest time before being banned Which contract is the most played Which player who have the best imprating, and worst of course (Could be me again) What was those zillions z9854 who logged in at the same time a beatiful morning And lot of other funny statistics Seriously. Will there be other things in that shop to buy, except more deals?

Ece and Steve please do not leave BBO
Jangvik replied to Rado's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I agree with Rado. ECE and Steve has contributed much to bbo. Topflights tournments have been very entertaining and learning to kibb. Steve has been very fun to get to learn and when he is playing it is party to kibb. Steve And Ece, pls stay. -
Hi Uday. I have tried with sound off a couple days. And as far as I can see this does not help that much. It could be that I have had fewer "jumpings", but it can also be a coincident. The jumpings are still there unfortunately. Since no one else seems to have the same problem it must be something with my setup. Oh well, I guess I will try to live with it. Keep up the good work.

Hi folks. I dunno if this is a bug or not, but I thought I would let you know and see if other people have the same problem. Here is the problem. When I have bbo up and running my pointer occasionally gets nuts. It jumps from one spot to another, this can happen rather frequently during some sessions. This is not happening every time I am logged on, but about every third time. When I am disconnected from bbo, the pointer is behaving normal again. I know bbo is build with the C++ language, and I also know what can happen with such programs. I have myself encounter lot of problems in my own C++ problems  . So maybe there is a leak somewhere? As I said, I dunno if the problem is on my computer or not. But now you know my problems at least. System Windows XP Pro Regards Fredrik

I know this has been up before, but I think it's important we reopen this topic again. This is really getting annoying. It happens rather frequently that players at the table just been swushed away into a tourney, without a single warning that they might. Today it happened several times. I really think there must be some solution on this, because it do disturb a lot and creates a lot of unnecessary bad mood among those who is being left at the table. Suggestions: Sugg. 1 There should be impossible for players who are signed up to a tourney to play in main bridge club 6-7 minutes before tourney starts. Sugg. 2 There should be clock attached to those who are signed up to a tourney, telling everyone else how long this prick will stay. I really hope there will be some solution on this.

Agree with Free. Working as a developer, with a lot of programdeliveries into companies systems, we have high demands on safe deliveries. Therefor we are using F-Secure who has worked particulary well. We had Norton before, but after accidents with it we shifted to F-Secure. And never had any problems since.

Version 3.6.0 Available for testing
Jangvik replied to uday's topic in BBO Announcements and Special Events
Hi Uday. I updated my client with this new version and find a change that I don't really like. When chatting as a kibb the alternative kibitzers is preselected instead of This room as it was before. I think "this room" should be preselected as before. It's annoying to change this alternative all the time. Great work never the less -
All is fixed. I am my old self again. My brain was not working properly, I was trying a pwd that does not fit. I had forgot my real. Embarrasing but true. This functionality "remember pwd" is really bad if you have a bad memory as me. Thanks all for helping me, maybe you could upgrade my brain as well since it's not working properly sometimes :P Jangvik

Hi. All of a sudden I couldn't log in with my ordinary Nickname [Jangvik]. It says bad username or password... This is really strange since I have had same account for two years now. I logged in earlier today, but in the evening I couldnt. I have checked both username and password about 20 times to be sure I didn't type anything wrong, but nothing helped. I send a mail to support@bridgebase.NOSPAM.com and did get an answer how to create a new account. It was very nice to provide that information to me, but I would prefer to have my old account back. Create a new account and log in did not cause any problem, so there is something weird with my old. Is there any chance for me to get it back, or is it lost in cyberspace forever. I don't care if I lose my friend/enemy list, I can quickly fill them up again. But I would appreciate to have my nick back. And another thing, I cannot post into this forum if I have Swedish language, when I press New Topic or Reply to post, two rows with some kind of errormessage occurs. I don't know if you knewed about this, but I thought I would tell. Regards Fredrik Jangvik

Version 3.5.4 available for testing

The new training feature with opponents bidding is great. But I would like to know if you gonna improve it on some areas. My suggestions for even better practice is. * Would be nice if the opponents have a cc automatically loaded. Sometimes they open 2 clubs for example. What is that? One time they open 3NT, I bid 4 spades with 20 points the opps responder bid 4NT, what is that? * If we could see the opps hand afterwards it would be great. Regards Fredrik Jangvik -

Ok, I will try to explain better. I was acting like my customers do when they find bugs into my programs, just screaming out loud with no backgroundinformation ;D. So here what I did. When playing or kibbitzing a board I click movie to check out all errors I did during the board. Then when I want to recapture the play I press the button named Next so first card will be played in the diagram. But nothing happens, no card is played. Only thing that is happening is the Next button getting selected. But if I press the button once more, the first card will be played. My first thought was that this might be some focusproblem. But same problem occur if I select another result in the resultlist on the left (still in movie view) and want to look at the play. Then I need to press twice on the button Next before first card is played. Breaking news I just found out that this occurs on all boards viewed in movie except the first one. On first board first card is played directly when I press the Next button. OS = Win XP It doesn't matter if I am a player or a kibb. Same problem occurs. I hope you guys understand despite my Swenglish. Best Regards Fredrik Jangvik -

I have found a bug in the demo. When watching a movie you need to push the next button twice before first card is played. I am pretty sure this wasn't the situation before. Else I think it's great. Best Regards Fredrik Jangvik -
Hi. For some reason the symbols are acting weird on my computer. I know they have worked ok before. When the symbols are shown in the biddingbox they are twice as big as the numbers which look rather redicilous. If I have the diagramview on when showing hands, the symbols are showed 3 mm higher than the cards, which have the effect that half the spade symbol is hidden under the name. What could possibly have happen? Additional : I now know when bbo messed up. I have installed a new program and after that bbo card symbols acted weird. This new program has nothing to do with bbo. I tried same on a win xp, before it was win ME. Now the symbols are gone! Instead there are other symbols showing??? Any suggestions what to do?

Bug -- Kibb a team and sucked in to a tourney
Jangvik posted a topic in Suggestions for the Software
Hi. This happened to me today. I registered for a individual tourney. While waiting for this tourney I kibbitzed a teammatch. When I get sucked into the tourney there was following errors. * The points from teammatch still resisted. * The directorbutton didn't exist. * The movie showed the teammatch boards. * When we fulfilled a board, our scored was compared to those in teammatch. [There was some huge swings for us ;)]. When the teammatch was over and removed from the tourneylist, things really messed up for me. * The scoresheet showed 0 rounds of 0 completed. * No time * No directorbutton * My previous boards where removed from movie * Couldn't chat to tourney, only to table * When declaring I couldn't play from dummy. However, when logging off and logon, all works properly. Maybe this is a famous bug or not, thought I should share my thougths anyway. And an other thing. When playing individual (unclocked), you are rather frequently playing with or against same player. In this tourney I had same player at my table 5 times, another player 4 times. And this on a 8 board tourney. I don't know if it's anything to do about this, but it's feels wrong to have same player at the table most of boards. -
This problem is something that annoys me a lot. There is a reason that I have checked 'Ignore message from lobby'. And that reason is not that I want to hear nn searching for a p, or hearing nn telling nn that a heart should be played. I do appreciate all people that act as directors voluntarily, do not take offense. But the more directors, the more nonsenschat appears in my messagebox. And I don't think it's my duty to tell everyone who is abusing/misunderstanding this option that I don't want to hear them, like 2over1 does. Solution is simple, just let he/she have this option short before tourney and disable it when tourney is over.
