I voted for the windows version. This is based on that it is the only way i can use BBO during work. I cannot log in using the flash version, always get the error connection lost. Probably due to restrictions in my company firewall. Taking about 2 minutes to log in into the windows version as well. :(

Changing to sat.bridgebase.com did the trick. Thanks Uday for quick answer.

Same problem here. But I refuse to change any settings because my settings have worked for years now. As a programmer I don't change anything that works! I assume something has happened on the server side that hopefully will be fixed within a short time.

Cannot be right Ben. I tried to search for Hamman in this file: "C:\Bridge Base Online\hands\usafrance.pbn" . It returned I think about 8 positive results, all like this which was 1st result: [North "Hamman"] I think Denis is right. What you found was a PBN file, note the name ""C:\Bridge Base Online\hands\usafrance.pbn" PBN File format is quite different. See the names are stored quite differently in pbn files... here they are stored one per line like this: [West "fred"] [North "andych"] [East "inquiry"] [south "csdenmark"] Notice the difference. And importatly, the quote marks are handled as spaces by the windows search routine, so if you search for text Fred and the text reads, It will find fred just fine (periods are handled well too, it is just strings that are not easily identified as words that are a problem). I suggest you do this claus.... Click in start menu in windows Click search (I think it is find in some earlier version of windows choose all files and folders Enter *.lin for the file type Enter csdenmark under "a word or phrase in the file" then press search... And think about the hundreds or thousands of lin files you have on your computer and see how many YOU find, I dont know exactly what I am doing here , but this file I found 32 hits. I have no search option clicking start I think. I entered instead Windows Explorer. searched for *.lin and found 913 hits for that. I chose this one: "C:\Bridge Base Online\hands\usafrance.lin", opened in Wordpad and via search option I got 32 hits for Hamman First hit found in this line: pn|Wolff,Multon,Hamman,Mouiel,Levy,Meckstroth,Mari,Rodwell|pg|| Voila - happy for the result - but I don't really know if that is what we are talking about Ben. Have I found new options for LIN-files or misunderstood something? If you read andych second post you might get a grip what the problem is. Let's say you have 2000 Lin-files on your drive, and you want to look at those files that have the name Hamman in it, then you can't find out which one to open through Windows search tool. If you enter *.lin and the name Hamman you will get 0 hits even if there are 300 files that have the name Hamman in it. Of course you can only search on *.lin, which you did, and get a couple of hits but how fun is that :). I have also found this a bit annoying, especially when surfing through old vugraph files.

I doubt that the problem is on the ISP-side. I have had problem connection to bbo for quite a long time actually. But almost never encounter any problem with any other internet services. It turned out that when the db file gets big (> 700 kb) I get kicked out and can't get back in again (I see the lobby but then I get flushed). It's impossible to get a reliable connection (for a while) until i delete the db file once again. I don't think that the db file is the problem at all, however there is a conflict somewhere that makes the connection go down and the db file is involved in a way or another. On my computer, which is XP pro sp2, I have F-secure Antivirus, F-secure Anti-Spyware, .Net framework 2.0 and a bunch of developer programs. I will try to create an empty db file which is write proteced and I will also set the whole Bridgebase folder to write-protected. I know for sure that .Net framework has some flaws when it comes to security and accesibility to folders and files. Maybe this will help.

Hi. I've encountered lot of disconnects problem with my computer at work. I gets logged in but gets kicked out after some seconds, the automatic reconnect push me back in. A couple of seconds later I get kicked out and the automatic reconnect push me back in again. You get the picture. I have tried lot of things with firewall, ports, antivirus and so on. Nothing helped before I deleted the db file? After I deleted it I got a stable connection for longer periods. Approx. 15 minutes long sessions before I got kicked out. Anyone knows what to do, or anyone else who experience the same problems?

If you really want to to print exactly (C) then you have to do like this (maybe there is an easier solution, but this is what I know anyway). Instead of a ( write & # 40; with no spaces. Instead of a ) write & # 41; with no spaces. AND! Don't preview! If you do you must write what I mentioned above once more. Regards Fredrik

Got the same error and reinstalled as well (before Gerardo wrote the shorter solution). However, I am curious why this happened at the same time to a bunch of people and not to others with the same version?

Answers to your question. If I open the IDE and don't run my project it wont crash. But as soon as I have runned a C# program BBO will crash, even after I have stopped the C# program. And this resist as long as my IDE is open. Help me find a game does not work at all. I got a blank window and after a while a standard IE error (Problems with page). I guess that is some kind of firewall problem. Regarding ATL.dll, I have a couple yes. About 10. I installed the noATl version. Pressed news and nothing happened. Pressed find me... Got the window saying. http://bridgebase04.bridgebase.com:81/wiz/...viks=723859|=09 But since I don't use HelpMeGet... and news is not a big issue this version is better for me at least.

Hi Uday. I still have problems with my BBO client and those IE popups(news). When there are news and I close the box I get "BBO must be shut down". I have analysed it too see if there is a pattern somehow, because I don't get it everytime, and it all boil down to this; I am using Visual Studio.Net in my daily work (don't tell my boss I am using BBO during working time, pls) and the language I use is C#. Everytime I have a project running (e.g open) and start BBO and there is news it shuts down. However if I close my .NET environment and start BBO it works ok, so I can certainly live with it. But if you know why this behaviour occur maybe you could tell me. Could be in interesting ;) feature I could use! Regs Fredrik Jangvik

Happened to me as well. Everytime a card was played I got that message box... Then I logged out, logged in same thing, logged out, logged in same thing, logged out, logged in and horray I saw the cards and everything worked!

Easy. 1. Fantoni - Nunes (No one will/can beat them) 2. Bocchi - Duboin (The italians are the best right now) 3. Johnson - Meckstroth (If there are many 3NT boards, they will be in top 3. Else place 20 something) 4. Balicki - Zmudzinski (Here or they will be dead last) 5. Fredin - Lindkvist (Go Sweden!) 6. Hamman - Zia (Because Zia is Zia and Bob is Bob)

I found a bug. If I use the new join xxx table and he is in a middle of a team match there are no scores from the boards that are allready played.

Swedish Team Trials
Jangvik replied to joker_gib's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I can answer that. The reason is that the Swedish Captain Jan K wants to see how good the (Swedish) participants can perform against international players. -
Compliments to Hrothgar
Jangvik replied to Chamaco's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Right on spot. This game needs characters that stands out. These players does not need to be world class at all. I believe, for example, that the most famous bridge player outside the bridge world is Bill Gates. We need more people like that. -
Hi Gerardo. I must say I really like the result of the query. Nice and smooth layout on the result list. On the search form I have a couple suggestions. As I see it there is absolutely no worth in having hour and minutes as a search criteria. First of all I don't know which time I played exactly that board. And I really don't know which time that it's saved in the database. Is it my time, Las Vegas time, Delhi time or Donald Duck time? I see many of the others have complained about the 1 week limit. If you must have a limit (I really don't see why you need to have it. Without knowing anything about the structure of the database, I dare to say that the sql clause cannot be to complex and time consuming). Anyway if you need a limit I would suggest a month at least. If you have a month limit, it should be mentioned somewhere on the page before a search is performed. If you have no data before 05-01-19 then you really shouldn't be able to pick a date before that. Reset button: If I press that button I am expecting all fields get their initial default value and I think everyone else do the same. If I want to start from scratch in the search page I need to close down the web browser. I guess you are using session object or something similar like that. Better solution is make the reset button work as a reset button. And now I am getting really annoying here (It's kind of cool acting like my customers do when they are testing my stuff). Enter the start date is ok, but YYYY-MM-... is really not needed. If it where a textbox where I manually should enter my values then it is ok. But now when there are combo boxes I really can't screw it up. So the date description is not needed. Gosh, what I am complaining! But honestly I think you are doing a great job, and it is nice that there are people out there who do this kind of things.

Hi Uday. I have 8 atl.dll. /Fredrik
-
Hi Uday. I updated my atl.dll, but it didn't help. Anyway, if I restarting my system the problem disappear for a while. The last months I have been working quite a lot with C#, it could be some conflict there maybe. And when the problem occurs I can just move the "BBO windows need to shut.." window to my "other" screen and BBO is fully working anyway. Thanks anyway
-
I have had this problem for quite a while now. When I am logging on to BBO then latest news are showing in a IE window. When I am closing it down with the close news window button or with the x I get an error from the OS telling me that BBO needs to shut down. I had this in version 3.9.x and decided to uninstall BBO and install the 4.1.0 version instead, unfortunately the same problem occur. The eventlog doesn't tell that much (I have put it below anyway). If you want I can send you the data that the OS want to send to Microsoft. I have Windows XP prof (eng) service pack 2. IE version 6.0.29 128 bit service pack 2. Information in event log Faulting application netbridgevu.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x5186b3db. Jangvik replied to Gerardo's topic in Support for Bridge Base Products

Hi. There have been some threads in this forum about the best bridge book out there. But most of the threads do not contain any deeper description of the book mentioned. So I thought I would be the first in line with this topic and I hope many of you will describe the best book in your opinion. I am always looking for good books to extend my library but find it hard to find any deeper recommendations. I like Points Schmoints! a lot, doesn’t say much. Why is it the best? For whom? And so on. So please reply to this topic and let me hear about your best books. You can describe the books in which way you want, I don’t care. But, please mention which skill level is required at least. Someone of you might say that Masterpiece of Declarer play by Pottage is the best book, but if a beginner buys it he will most likely get very disappointed. So here we go! My favorite book. How to read your opponents card by Mike Lawrence. I have played bridge for many years now and rank myself as advanced. During all these years I have read a lot of books about bidding, playing, humor and other things. Most of the books have I reread over and over again. But the book that I have reread most is the book mentioned above. It is not a difficult book at all; I would say it is rather easy in fact. But nevertheless it is a book I must pick up once in a year because of it’s strength, to learn the reader to think in the right way as declarer. I am a fast player, most of the times too fast. It happens that I forget important clues because of my speed and make silly mistake. Like making finesses that is doomed to fail, can’t find single kings and drop them, miscount the opps suit etc. When I notice that this has happen a couple times in a row I pick up the book by Mike Lawrence. And after that my declarer play will slow down again, not PO Sundelin slowness but a healthy slowness. The title of the book says what it is about. How to read your opponents card. Mike describes in a very smooth way how to find the clues and evidence needed to locate the missing cards. He is giving lot of hints that you can use when you are the declarer to find the cards. He tells us how to think when the bidding is over and the first card is played. And I have had great help from that. For example. You are playing 3NT (Opps silent during the bidding) and they are leading the 3 of heart. According to Mike you should think like this; • He lead the heart of 3, therefore he does not have the Ace in that suit. • He lead the heart of 3, therefore he does not have a suit headed with a sequence • He lead the heart of 3, therefore he have 4 (or 5) cards in that suit. • Etc. As a result from this analyze you should get a pretty good picture how the card lies and make a plan for the game. If the opponents have open or overcalling it is a lot easier to locate the missing cards. And how you should do that is mentioned in this book. A lot of the hints in this book are really obvious, but we don’t use them in our declarer play. If you read this book you will get the information of how to think when you are declarer. It is really improving your declarer play. If you rather often find out that your contract is a trick short comparing to others, or if you asking yourself why other seems to have find that singleton king, then this book is a must. I would recommend this book to all who is eager to leave the intermediate level and become advanced. We who think we are advanced should definitely read this book occasionally, or at least try to learn those basic rules that are mentioned in the book. A warning! When playing against beginners you should not try to follow the rules in this book because you will certainly fail. You will only get disappointed because beginners probably hasn’t read the book yet and don’t know how to show us all the hints we need. Runners up. Points Schmoints! By Marty Bergen. This book is a must. Learn about the law of 20 and the law of 15 (which has nothing to do with THE LAW). Perfect as a book you can have in the bath room. The book contains of a lot of short chapters which describes lot of different gadgets within bridge. It’s like a box of chocolate with many exciting flavors. Everyone from beginner to world class will enjoy this book. Marty Bergen has a good sense of humor who does this book very funny to read. The book that didn’t reach the top 5 (nor was it close) The complete book on overcalls in contract bridge by Mike Lawrence (Crazy I know, best and worse). In this book there are about a zillions similar hands where you should or not should overcall opps bidding … ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ whoops, well if you have the jack in heart you should definitely overcall but if the opps did bid 1 spade you should not… ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ mumble mumble but if you have the fifth to queen in diamonds however double and ……… ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ The book that has nothing to do with bridge. Everything from Wilbur Smith. His books about the life in England, South Africa and Africa in the 1700 century are absolutely excellent.

BBO still in memory after shutdown
Jangvik replied to Jangvik's topic in Suggestions for the Software
Hi Uday. Only when using quick shutdowns (using the x in the upper right or Alt F4) when exiting the proper way then the process is killed also. So it works ok when I quit at the splashscreen with the three options open, open movie, exit. Else it will stay active as a process. Regs Fredrik -
Hi. I have found that in both last and current version BBO stays as active process after that I have shutted it down. Due to that BBO couldn't update itself to the new version. However if I shut it down in the taskmanager/processes the update could proceede. It is a bit annoying that it stills take up some place after shutdown since there allready are several other processes who take up their fair amount. Just wanted you to know. About BBO trnslation project
Jangvik replied to Erkson's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Hi bridge fellows. I have no problem with having bbo in english only. However I do know a few friends of mine who have problem with the client due to their lack in english. And although English now is a language that is taught in every school in the world I do think this is a good idea. BBO is a wonderful world who should be accessible for everyone and it isn't today. In our country, many people over 40 years have huge problems with understanding english. So go on Fred and company! A good start would be to update the helpfiles first, if it is possible to get them translated in "any" language many people could use the client thanks to the help files even if the client is in english. -
Thx for answer Flame. MP stands for missing points. Very good to have as hand evaluator when you have suited hands. You count the hp you are missing and if they are less than 14, open strong. My idea (and question) was if it's ok to have strong two openings if they are based on MP count. Something like this All 16+ open 1♣ If <14 mp and < 16+hp open 2♥/♠ if <14 mp and >= 16+hp open 1 ♣ I guess it is ok. Thx Claus, I will try to look through those pages when I have time to, and when I have the mood to look at multicoloral pages lol.
