Ideally you should be removing the top and bottom scores And more sensically in a tourney, only taking scores from, say, the top 10 tables after round 1. Dwayne-man.

Is this hand worth a Namyats ?

I'm with Ron, and I'll redouble. Dwayne is still my name. -
If I have clients who want to play in the ACBL sanctioned tourneys on BBO, do I have to join the ACBL in order for the client to be eligible for the masterpoints? Dwayne-bop-a-beep-op

Intentional logouts during tournaments
Dwayne replied to guggie's topic in BBO Tournaments Discussion
Somewhat off-topic and directed toward Fred and Uday, but have you tracked the level of complaints you receive and is it in decline or increase? Also, what areas of abuse, as described by Ben, are most prevalent and which, if any, are increasing or decreasing? Just interested from an anthropological perspective but if you consider this data sensitive then that's okely dokely. Dwayneroo. -
I'd be tempted in first seat to open this 3S at all vulnerabilities expcet favourable. Other than that 2S looks about right on the money. Pass? Not likely. Dwayne Jnr.

I've served on more committees in both bridge and political arena over the last 25 years than I care to remember and I can safely confirm the old adage that: a camel is a horse designed by a committee. 'nuff said. Dwayne-drops

Not surprising I suppose when there are in excess of 1,000,000,000 people there. Probably even several own their own car too. Makes you wonder if there are any GI Joes who are poor and don't have capped teeth. Life's like that. Dwayneo Polo. ....hang on, unless it was mink's friend's father who was turned out to be wealthy.

Is it acceptable a gold star insults people?
Dwayne replied to Free's topic in General BBO Discussion
Free, did you really need a poll to determine consensus as to whether it was acceptable for a gold star to insult someone? As Ben would say...this is a no-brainer. We all know it's not acceptable for anyone to insult anyone else on BBO. We all know the rules, particularly those among us who read and contribute to the endless posts and threads in this forum. BBO has the machinations in place to deal with fools like your starred opponent. You did the right thing by sending the log of your chat to abuse@ but get over it. Or was there another underlying motive behind your original post that I missed? Introspectively, Dwayno-Rama. -
as with many ideas, wonderful in theory. How shall we police and regulate this? How do we authenticate that the poor buggar is from Albania or really from Albany? His/ her BBO flag? I don't think so. His/ her email address? A good start but...no...wouldnt work. A letter from their government? Nah..too many dodgy regimes around. And while we're at it... what if some blighter on welfare living in a ghetto in East LA wants a game? Might be easier to tax the rich imo. Dwaynerino.

Not so. Bilski/ Brown, during their run of three consecutive years playing in the Australian Open Team during the early 1990s played penalty doubles at favourable at the one-level and as I recall reaped plenty of penalties. The real problem lies with many partnership's inabilty to take the penalty opportunities dished up to them. How often has a pair bid on to game after interference then post mortem realised any opposition contract would have been a bloodbath? What a new scoring table will do is punish creative bidding. I played against Stephen Burgess in January this year and basically his failure to overcall at either the one or two level pretty much indicated the lack of a 5-card suit. His methods were nothing short of destructive and I applaud his enterprise. I'm all for poker-style bridge. The rest is boring as bat-poo. Dwayne (Boogie Woogie)

Skip? I think his name was Skid. But what's a letter here or there between friends. As I recall the Los Angeles Times once referred to the Australian Prime Minister as John Hunt, so you're in good company Garry. They call me Dwayne -
Gabor, keep the posts coming...please. Better still...rather than changing the scoring table as you propose...may I suggest a law change. Ahem (clearing my throat for big announcement). I suggest that from hereonin interference over conventional strong, forcing openings (strong club, strong 2C or strong 2D) is banned and punishable by no less than 3 IMPs per board or an average - score at MPs. Oh...and you have to have thirteen to open too. Dwayne (is still my name)

It's been days since we had a decent discussion on the proliferation of cheating on BBO but if ever there was a thread that ripe for the picking... You would obviously attract cheaters to a big prize money tournament. After all, $5000 is a pretty good incentive to cheat, isnt it? Dwaynos. Currectly south of the murray

Bingo Erik! For providing the correct answer you get the chance to play off for our major prize. As Erik so correctly points out, NTs scores more than clubs and diamonds but making games score better than failing contracts. 3NT is a horrible bid here and for what it's worth I believe 3H is mandatory. A 4C rebid seems the sensible approach - how else will opener evaluate his hand in context. Dwayne
-
Not all Ben. Quite frankly this could make for a far more sensible thread than many that pass by on a daily basis. If we're after suggestions, then I can confidently assert that one should never play leapfrog with unicorns. Dwayne-ong

...boring... people people...can we get over this 'stop the cheaters at all costs' mentality. It really gets up my nose when I can't kibbitz a tourney. Barring specs deters cheaters from using one methodology but if I had the time and inclination I bet I could list 100 other ways to cheat on BBO...for what it's worth. Preventing ACBL numbers from being used..
Dwayne replied to jdulmage's topic in BBO Tournaments Discussion
good grief. At the risk of also sounding unprofessional and bias (sic), I can unequivocally state the most unattractive (in the non-physical sense) 20-something bridge players in my end of the world are exactly those who began playing bridge at 15 and have yet to taste the ... er life experiences that James has so assiduously avoided. As for the value of masterpoints, don't get the regulars in this forum started. Uday mentions often enough the lack of hard-disk space at his ISP for us to be warned off going down this beaten road. Dwayne (no... I am not related to Joyce deWitt) -
Then this is clearly an anomoly in local regulations. After all, what's the real difference? Both are a deliberate mistatement of your actual holding. What we should be monitoring, rather than reporting all psyches per se, are occurences where a player clearly fields a partner's actions that are inconsistent with their claimed agreements. Dwaynerino.
-
I've been down this road before but here goes...... I think we should also have a button for when you are going to make a defensive false-card. Let's say you and your partner agree to play natural count (it goes without saying that you have told your opponents this at the start of the round). Then you realise that a devilish false-card or false-count card may fool declarer. And so it proves. I say we should *HAVE* to press a button just like the psyche button. Bring back the rope! Dwaynish.

in the early days of BBO goulash I was speccing a friend in a Goulash tourney. One hapless player at the end of board 10 declared: "These hands sure are wild tonight". dwaynesome.

Fred and Uday, you guys are on the ball. Lurv the new IMP scale that displays when you mouse over the teams names in Vugraph and Team games. Of course..this was a loaded thread. How plausible is it to have a VP scale come up - the particular scale of course dependant on the length of the match...that perhaps the Vugraph operator could punch in when setting up? yours etc etc. Deewayneful.

Of course best of all is 2♥ to show a weak 2 in either Major. those of us who arent too gutless play it non-forcing, of course. dwayne currently due west of Tasmania.
