  1. So, something like [hv=pc=n&s=sat3h965d943cj542&w=sq987hktdakjt65c9&n=sk54ha872dq8cakt3&e=sj62hqj43d72cq876&d=e&v=0&b=14&a=p1h(0-8, fert)1s(12+, 4+S3-H)1n(14-17 BAL)pp?]399|300[/hv]
  2. I think he was trying out Mark Abraham's SPREAD system and didn't see a good way to continue after 1♦*-1♠** 1N*** * "4+S 0-3H any shape, 10-14 HCP balanced or 9-13 HCP unbalanced" ** "Game-invitational or better relay" *** "Minimum, balanced or 3-suited without hearts" Then he realised he could have avoided the problem by responding 1♥ ("Game-forcing relay") instead.
  3. They are aggressive bidders, but their one-of-a-suit openings are generally sound. (Rule of 20-ish, say.) And on board 28 here Bas Drijver went to the opposite extreme (IMO) and passed in the following position: [hv=pc=n&n=saqt97ht85da983c3&d=w&v=n&b=12&a=p?]133|200[/hv] :)
  4. This was board 19 here, from one of the 2022 Spingold semi-finals. Not that Brink-Drijver or Hung-Milne were playing standard 2/1, but close enough...
  5. Assume expert partner and standard 2/1. [hv=pc=n&s=skt762h8d5ckq9765&d=s&v=e&b=3&a=?]133|200[/hv]
  6. I find the description on pp 69-71here of the Laurel and Hardy 1N overcall really confusing. I guess (hope) that over a (non-strong but possibly artificial) 1♣ opening, the idea is that a 1N overcall shows 12-15 hcp and either * 5+ D, no major and if vul a hand unsuitable for an IJO * 5M3-OM4-D * 6+ M (6+M3-OM?) and if vul a hand unsuitable for an IJO .
  7. "Cheaper minor -- forcing to 3H" was not a true statement?
  8. Opps have the exact same amount of bidding space after 1♦-(2♥)-3♣-(3♥) as after 1♦-(2♥)-3♣-(P) . (If they wanted to, they could play "system on" with P and X replacing 3♦ and 3♥, respectively.)

  10. Haven't analysed this in detail, but: 1. ruff 2. ♥K Then if opps win and continue diamonds, 3. ruff 4. small heart + obvious stuff

  12. Maybe the auction really went 1C-1D 1H-1S 2D-2S P ?
  13. You could also try pass : 4+♦, unbalanced OR C > H ...X = relay ......P = C > H X : balanced 2♦ : ♥ >= ♣ 2♥ : ♣ > ♥ not used! 2♠+ : 6+♥ .
  14. Btw, it's easy to create a pair of hands where some version of LTC looks dumber than Goren points. Two examples: 1) ♠Qxx ♥Qxx ♦Qxx ♣Qxxx (8 losers, 7 Goren points*) ♠AJT ♥AJT ♦AJT ♣AJT9 (8 losers, 20 Goren points*) 2) ♠ Qxxxxx ♥Qxxxx ♦x ♣x (6 losers, 7 Goren points*) ♠ AJT9xx ♥AJT9x ♦K ♣K (6 losers, 18 Goren points*) * using the (Goren point) algorithm in Jens Boeck, Moderne bridge, 1980 Can anyone come up with a pair of hands where Goren points look dumber than some version of LTC?
  15. The Milton Work point count? Since LTC is just a disguised way of counting points for high cards and distribution, it must be better to compare it with the Goren point count.
  16. Maybe OP was playing against advanced robots. I wasn't.
  17. a) ♠xxx ♥AQTx ♦Kx ♣AJxx b) ♠QTx ♥KTx ♦AQJx ♣QTx c) ♠QJx ♥KJxx ♦QJx ♣KQx So according to * CCCC, c) < b) < a) * HCP, a) = b) < c) * Binky NT, c) < b) = a) * Binky Suit, c) < b) < a) * Fifths, c) = a) < b) * BUM-RAP, c) < b) < a) * Bissell, c) = b) < a), where .
  18. You could play e.g. 4♦(key card ask)-?: 4♥ = even # of key cards ...4♠ = trump Q ask ......4N = no trump Q ........P: allowed ........(...) ......5♣+ = trump Q ...4N = to play ...(...) 4♠ = odd # of key cards, no trump Q ...4N = to play ...(...) 4N = odd # of key cards, trump Q ...P: allowed ...(...) .
  19. 1♥-1♠ 3♠-4NT(1) 5♦(2)-7♠ P (1) Roman Key Card Blackwood (2) 1 or 4 key cards (assuming the more common 0314 version of Roman Key Card Blackwood)
