Shown at least four (five?) cards in that suit, you mean? Ways to bid diamonds without showing 4+ cards in the suit: 1) 1♦(4+ unless 4=4=3=2) 2) 1♠-4♦(Splinter) 3) 1N-2♦(5+ H) 4) 2♣-2♦(waiting) etc.
-
Ok, it was a mistake to respond, as usual.

4N Far too good for 4♠. Can't think of a really good reason to make a more space-consuming bid like 5♥, 5♠, 5N, 6♥ or 6♠.

Balanced by Norwegian standards

Interesting title! -
In mine, too. But at least they don't always show support with GF values and 4c+ support. Board 3 here is an example from the Bermuda Bowl finals where de Wijs responded 1N (GF relay) on T932 AQ2 3 AKQ92 to Mullers (1st seat NV vs V) 1♠ opening. Verhees - van Prooijen seem to play the exact same system, so presumably the response would have been 1N in their partnership, too.

Or you could try to apply LoTT + adjustments. For example, [hv=pc=n&e=satht52dkjt984c95&d=e&v=n&b=2&a=pp1s2hp3hpp?]133|200[/hv] -

The slam that wasn't there

The evaluators: " CCCC The Kaplan-and-Rubens evaluator. HCP The standard high card points sometimes called the Milton Work point count, where Ace=4, King=3, Queen=2, Jack=1. Binky Notrump and Suit The results of my hand evaluation research. Fifths The Fifths evaluator is an evaluator which adjusts standard HCP slightly, removing one fifth from the value of kings and queens and adding two fifths for tens. It might or might not work better for determining whether to bid 3NT or not. BUM-RAP Alex Martelli's adjustment to work point count, which seems good for suit contracts. A=4.5, K=3, Q=1.5, J=0.75, T=0.25. Bissell Closely related to losing trick count, Bissell's evaluation dates from 1936. (If you subtract Bissell from 39 and divide by three, you get a rough losing trick count.)" All of them certainly allowed at the table. It suggests, but does not prove, that you are not a walrus. (Which is good.) -

How much the hand above and this average-looking 10 count are worth, using some different evaluators. -
missed slam which was maybe my fault

I'm interpreting the openings to be: P = (0-2, 7-9 or 16-18) and either 4333, 3+S3+H3+D2-C or (primary C and 0-2 cards in at least two suits) 1♣ = (0-2, 7-9 or 16-18) and either 3334, 3+S3+H2-D3+C or (primary D and 0-2 cards in at least two suits) 1♦ = (0-2, 7-9 or 16-18) and either 3343, 3+S2-H3+D3+C or (primary H and 0-2 cards in at least two suits) 1♥ = (0-2, 7-9 or 16-18) and either 3433, 2-S3+H3+D3+C or (primary S and 0-2 cards in at least two suits) 1♠ = 5-7 or 13-15 1N = (3-5, 10-12 or 18-20) and either 4333, 3+S3+H3+D2-C or (primary C and 0-2 cards in at least two suits) 2♣ = (3-5, 10-12 or 18-20) and either 3334, 3+S3+H2-D3+C or (primary D and 0-2 cards in at least two suits) 2♦ = (3-5, 10-12 or 18-20) and either 3343, 3+S2-H3+D3+C or (primary H and 0-2 cards in at least two suits) 2♥ = (3-5, 10-12 or 18-20) and either 3433, 2-S3+H3+D3+C or (primary S and 0-2 cards in at least two suits) 2♠ = 21+ unBAL or 23+ BAL 2N = 21-22 BAL 3♣+ = standard Note that some of the intervals overlap. And we need a definition of 'primary' to know which suit to "open" (if in range for a "suit opening") with (5521) or 6-6.

The systems used in this year's Bermuda Bowl final: Muller - de Wijs van den Bos - van Lankveld van Prooijen - Verhees Brink - Drijver Gawrys - Klukowski Piedra - Zimmermann As you can see, only Gawrys - Klukowski were playing * 1M-2N as what superficially looks like Jacoby 2N * neither 1M-[1M+1] nor 1M-2♣ as some kind of GF relay .

Is this partly because you believe ?

Yes, so using the Goren system I learnt as a beginner, the 2-handed auction would go: P-1♠ 2♠(1)-3♠(2) 4♠(3)-P (1) 6-10 dummy points (2) invitational (3) 8-10 dummy points

A tiny point of technique
nullve replied to mikeh's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I don't follow. Is the ace out because we would always duck without the king in hand? If so, then the queen should also out by the same reasoning. I'd try A from dummy, K from hand against GiB. Might work against some humans, too. -
