I've never played Moscito, but here is an adaption of stuff that is not unheard of in 2/1-like systems: 1♦-(2♠)-?: P = NAT NF, includes BAL INV with either 3-5S2H, 33(52) or 4-5S3H* ...P = (most hands with) 3+S5-H5-D5-C (yes, could miss game opposite BAL INV) ...X = takeout ......P = LoTT-based ......2N = Good/Bad, here with any non-INV hand that can't pass .........3♣ = P/C .........3♦ = ELC .........(...) ......3♣-3♥ = NAT INV ......(...) ...2N = Good/Bad ......3♣ = P/C .........P = MIN, 4(+)H6+C .........3♦ = MIN, 4(+)H6+D .........3♥ = MIN, 6+ H .........(...) ......(...) ...3m = MAX, 4(+)H(5)6+m ...3♥ = MAX, 6(+) H ...(...) X = takeout, includes BAL INV with either 2S3H or 3H(433)* ...P = 4+ S (including any 44(41)?) ...2N = Good/Bad ......3♣ = P/C .........P = MIN, 4H5+C .........3♦ = MIN, 4H5+D .........3♥ = MIN, 5+ H .........(...) ......3♦ = ELC ......(...) ...3m = MAX, 4(+)H5+m ...3♥ = MAX, 5(+) H ...(...) 2N = INV+ 4c+ raise 3m = Switch (3♣ could be played as INV+) 3♥ = competitive 4c+ raise (...) * I think Responder should double even on INV hands with 4333 shape unless prepared to pass a reopening double by partner.
-
The most likely shapes around the table seem to be West: 4243 (the raise to 3♦ suggests 4+ D) South: 2623 (didn't double 2♦ (support? takeout?), so presumably < 3 S) East: 3352 (might have done something else (X? 1N? 2♣?) with only 4 D or as many as 4 Ss (X (if PEN)? 1N?) If these are the true shapes, or close enough, then there are 17 total trumps and therefore 17 total tricks if LoTT holds. I see no compelling reason why it shouldn't, so assuming tricks are divided fairly evenly between the two sides (as suggested by the distribution of hcp), it seems that our side should compete to 3♥. If partner really is 2623, then I don't see how our side can get to 3♥ unless I bid 3♥ now. So I'll bid 3♥.

The continuation in Il sistema Bocchi-Duboin looks quite good.

A: 1N(1)-2♥(2) (1) 15-17 BAL (2) 5+ S B: 1N(1)-2♥(2) (1) 15-17 BAL, asks if partner has 5+ S (2) confirms 5+ S 1N should be alerted in B but not in A?

To indicate why I play 3♥ this way, here are some structures between the (obviously unplayable) sym+4 structure in post #10 and my own structure: 1) 2N = 5+x4u or 5+-5+ or (4441) (if possible) 3♣ = 5+x4v 3♦ = 1-suited 3♥ = 5+x4w, high uneven shortage 3♠ = 5+x4w, even shortage 3N = 5x4w31 (5x4w40) 4♣ = 6x4w21 4♦ = 6x4w30 4♥ = 7x4w20 where 5x(440) is temporarily treated as 5x(431), which frees up 2N-3♣; 3♦. 2) 2N = 5+x4+u or 5-5 (if possible) or (4441) (if possible) 3♣ = 5+x4+v, not 5-5 3♦ = 1-suited 3♥ = 5+x4+w, high uneven shortage, not 5-5 3♠ = 5+x4+w, even shortage 3N = 5x4w31 (5x4w40) 4♣ = 6x4w21 4♦ = 6x4w30 4♥ = 6x5w20 4♠ = 7x4w20 3) 2N = 5+x4+u or 1-suited, not 5-5 3♣ = 5+x4+v, not 5-5 3♦ = 5-5 or (4441) 3♥ = 5+x4+w, high uneven shortage, not 5-5 3♠ = 5+x4+w, even shortage 3N = 5x4w31 (5x4w40) 4♣ = 6x4w21 4♦ = 6x4w30 4♥ = 6x5w20 4♠ = 7x4w20 (I think it's much better to have the 1-suiters in 2N in case Asker wants to break out of the relays.) 4) 2N = 5+x4+u or 1-suited, not 5-5 3♣ = 5+x4+v, not 5-5 3♦ = 5-5 or (4441) 3♥ = 5x4w22 or 6+w4+w and high uneven shortage ...3♠ = relay ......3N = 5x4w22 ......4♣ = 6x4w(21) ......4♦ = 6x4w03 ......4♥ = 6x5w02 ......4♠ = 7x4w02 ...3N = to play opposite both 5x4w22 and 6x4w(21) ...(...) 3♠ = 5x4w13 (5x4w04) 3N = 5x4w31 (5x4w40) 4♣ = 6+x4+w, even shortage 4♦ = 6x4w30 4♥ = 6x5w20 4♠ = 7x4w20 5) 2N = 5+x4+u or 1-suited, not 5-5 3♣ = 5+x4+v, not 5-5 3♦ = 5-5 or (4441) 3♥ = 5x4w22, 6x4w(21) or (6+w4+w, high uneven shortage) ...3♠ = relay, willing to bypass 3N opposite 6x4w(21) ......3N = 5x4w22 ......4♣ = 6x4w03 (allows 4♦ = stop signal; 4♥/♠/N = PKC in the lowest/middlemost/highest suit, respectivly, of x, w and fragment) ......4♦ = 6x4w(21) (both PKC(x) and PKC(w) avaiblable at a sufficiently low level unless {x,w}={♣,♥}) ......4♥ = ? (this is where I put 8x3w, which might be silly) ......4♠ = 6x4w02 ......4N = 7x4w20 ...3N = to play opposite both 5x4w22 and 6x4w(21) ...(...) 3♠ = 5x4w13 (5x4w04) 3N = 5x4w31 (5x4w40) 4♣ = 6x4w30 (allows 4♦ = stop signal; 4♥/♠/N = PKC in the lowest/middlemost/highest suit, respectivly, of x, w and fragment) 4♦ = 6x5w11 4♥ = 7x4w11 4♠ = 6x5w20 4N = 7x4w20 But if I knew how to use 1♠ or 1N instead of 2♣ as the relay response to 1M without hurting my partscore bidding*, then I would certainly adopt a more symmetric structure. * In the Z Club, canapé version thread I suggested that this might be easier to do in a canapé context because 1M-2♣ could be used as P/C rather than NAT, NF. --- I know the above auction to 6♣ isn't very impressive, but how do you think it compares to the 2/1 auctions in the Take over the bidding.. thread?

However, Dealer (the program) says that the North hand will produce only 8.37 tricks on average in a heart contract (played by South) opposite a hand with 11 hcp and 5422 shape.

Or 13, if you count support points the way Goren did.

Take over the bidding..

What if Opener has a spade more and a club less, i.e. something like 42 AK9865 AK T86 ? How do you find the 6-2 heart fit if it exists? -

But 2♥ didn't promise 6+ hearts? -
Yes, that was the point. Suggestions: INV vs GF 5-5 majors after 1NT
nullve replied to Kungsgeten's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
My solution is to not open 1N with 2-2 in the majors. Then it's easy for Responder to treat every hand with 5+-5+ in the majors as either weak or worth a GF. -

Preempt a preempt?
nullve replied to jillybean's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I edited it because I wanted to clarify something . If that's bad style, then I'm sorry. I didn't criticise it at all. I read your two first posts as implying that you would not overcall 2♠ on AKJxxx Kxx x Axx. That's why asked if you would overcall 3♠. I actually think passing 2♠ with that hand is winning bridge. I don't. -

Third X-imps weird hand I got wrong

So North and South might have thought they were playing Multilandy and Cappelletti, respectively. what were 2♦ and XX explained to you as? (By Noeth and South, respectively, if this was f2f bridge.)
