  1. Another possibility is to put the 4M 5♣ hands into 1M opening. I'm not entirely sure what your follow-ups would be. Best to reference some other canape systems to see what is best.
  2. Your latter proposition reminds me a lot of Magic Diamond. There's a comprehensive booklet on it here. I've never played it, but the light 1M seems like a winner. I'm curious as to what the goals for this system are? The modifications you make are dependent on what you want the system to do. I.e., if you like to hassle the opponents with preempts, then a mini NT makes more sense than a strong NT. I've toyed around with a 1N opening like you have prescribed. It only seems to work if it is a means of refining an existing 2♣ opening that says about the same thing. Please let me know where you intend to go with this system. I think it will help everybody with their suggestions (which, I can assure you, will me much more meaningful than what I have to tell you).
  3. I'm wondering what the best method to create system note sheets is, as far as programs. Is there a best way? Also, as I am currently using 2010 Word for most of my notes, is it possible to create a collapsible list (as to enhance the document visually when reading... some notes can be too much to look at)? If so, I would like to know how.
  4. Absolutely. Unless your 2♦ structure has followups for 4441. I'm guessing not ;)
  5. Key play is to pitch a heart on the diamond continuation. All the remaining cards are marked on your right, as LHO has shown 9 HCP. I made 9 tricks (perhaps w/ defense help... I cannot diagnose that at this time).
  6. I'm just brainstorming what I think of immediately here. Relatively simple, I hope... 4333s should allow partner to show his longest suit, as we don't have very much preference. Also, 44s should be as explicit as possible should the opponents decide to compete (for whatever reason..). If we cannot show every two suiter explicitly (likely), then we should have a way to differentiate in competition. So, with this in mind: 1N (9-11) - X (Penalty) - Pass: Penalty; Any moderate hand except for those w/ 5♥/♠. Opener may elect to scramble identically with a really, really bad hand. Subsequent doubles are penalty -> Note that this makes every bid OTHER than pass <Invitational XX: ♣+♦ or ♠+ ♥/♣/♦ -> subsequent doubles are takeout for majors/minors 2♣: 6+ ♣ or 4♣+ 4♥ -> Rebid ♣ if needed with 6+; Subsequent doubles are takeout 2♦: 6+ ♦ or 4♦+ 4♥ -> Rebid ♦ if needed with 6+; Subsequent doubles are takeout 2♥: 5+ ♥; Constructive; Subsequent doubles are cooperative 2♠: 5+ ♠; Constructive; Subsequent doubles are cooperative 4333 hands XX. The auctions 2♣ thru 2♠ are intuitive. After XX: 2♣: Artificial; Neutral -> Now 2♦= ♠+♦ 2♦: 5+♦ or 3+♦ 2♣ 2♥: 5+♥; Quality Suit 2♠: 5+♠; Quality Suit "Motivation is that the scheme I use right now is fine but a bit too complicated (for pard.. LOL)." There is always a way to comprehend any structure. I find comprehending the rationale for each bid's definition the most helpful. For instance, 4333 hands XX b/c there is adequate bidding space for opener. Additionally, mnemonics, repetition, flashcards, discussions... they all work. At then end of the day, anyone who is unwilling to understand their bidding methods cannot hope to progress their game. Period. And complexity is never an excuse. So, the simple presentation: 1N-X-? Pass= Content with 1NX XX- Minors or Spades/Other -> opener bids 5 cd suit or 2D w/ majors or 2C otherwise 2C- Rounds longer C 2D- Reds longer D 2H/S- Constructive; 5+ cd.
  7. As Dealer S, what is your bid?: [hv=pc=n&s=saqh62d752cakt632&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=1c1nd2d(5%2B%20!H)]133|200[/hv] (Note: If you pass, what do you bid given the next round?) [hv=pc=n&s=saqh62d752cakt632&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=1c1nd2d(5%2B%20!H)p2hdp]133|200[/hv]
  8. Roy Hughes "Building a Bidding System" suggests 1C-1D-1H/ 1C-1H-1S = 5+C; <3M; Unbalanced
  9. It recently occurred to me that it would be useful for there to be lists of BBO members that play unusual systems. For instance, there can be a list for Precision, one for K/S, etc. I'm not sure at the moment what the best way to execute this is. Does anybody have any ideas?
  10. In my style, W underbid and his partner didn't go on further.
  11. IMHO, soft values in clubs are wasted. While the hand has 5[diamonds}, it's now a 10 count after opening the weak NT. I bid 3N/3D. If P has slam interest, he'll cuebid something... (Of interest, what would 3♥ have shown by you in this auction?)
  12. Agree that W underbid his hand, provided that there is a way to show this good hand @ the 3 level. 2nd hand E doesn't have a slam try, IMO. Flat w/ 12 looks like a minimum 2/1 (but is 2N promising extras?).
  13. Congratulations! I saw no explanation regarding the keycard auction on bridgegod when I played it. But 7N was bid/made.
  14. Recently, I have been reworking the current scheme I use over 1N. The system currently covers: - Weak 5♥/♠, 44/43 ♥/♠ - Invitational values w/ 4-5 ♥/♠ - 6+ ♥/♠ GF - 5-5 GF Hands - 5-4 GF Hnads - Uncovering all major fits As of now there is no definition for these auctions: 1N-P- - 3♣ - 3♦ - 3♥ - 3♠ - 3N - 4♥ - 4♠ Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!
  15. Sounds like this is more of a corollary to the BART convention...
  16. Perhaps it would have been best to play a low club towards the queen earlier. If the swindle works, you can lose a heart. If it doesn't, then you have to consider what inferences can be taken.
  17. I agree that without the system, I cannot comment on the bidding. The fact that it played well seems lucky, though...
  18. I have seen the suit symbols on some CCs. How is it possible to put these on?
  19. I'm expecting to be at the Atlanta tournament. Who can I expect to see?
  20. Your hand is as follows: ♠ AJ432 ♥ A1065 ♦ A107 ♣ J What is your bid, Vul. v. Vul, after a 1st seat 1♣ by RHO? (Spoiler) The full deal here: http://tinyurl.com/n8g664b
  21. Can somebody explain to me the advantages of canape approach?
  22. I've recently bought the Bill Jacob's book myself. When I finish it, I'd be happy to try it out.
